When Georgie said " after you were gone for college i had to look for everything in the family" in the bbt i can see it how that happened now.
After father dies and he goes for higher education in Germany.
*Georgie:* “You went away to college after dad died, who do you think took care of everything?”
*Sheldon:* “Mom did, Mom always took care of everything.”
*Georgie:* “Mom was a mess, Missy was a dumb teenager, I had to look after everybody.”
@@Synonymous_Legion Well, now, seeing that he caused it all, I'd say it's only fitting that he had to look out for everyone. Served him well.
@@Synonymous_Legion don’t worry. They still have a window, of years, left to tie those loopholes in. Sheldon still goes to more college-ing, Missy will be a dumb teenager for a while, Georgie can already make love to tires, and George is under the kind of stress that could absolutely kill a man in his health.
Oh, I remember Georgie telling sheldon after their father passed away and Sheldon left to study at college that he stepped up, took responsibility and took care of everything and everyone.
Though at the moment I'm finding it hard to believe that because Georgie's done a lot to screw things up for his family; since he got Mandy pregnant Mary's now lost her job at the church and at the end of this episode Georgie's gotten himself and Meemaw arrested.
I hope he matures a lot next season and become the successful businessman and responsible as he said he was.
Also, while he said Missy was a dumb teenager well at least Missy didn't get pregnant when she was a teenager unlike him getting Mandy aged 29 pregnant while he's still a teenager so maybe Missy wasn't as dumb as Georgie claimed.
3:01 Brenda knows what it is to have everything fall apart so it was real nice to see her help out Mary like this when nearly everyone else she thought was her friend turned their back on her.
Exactly!!! Finally someone pointed it out... Brenda maybe harsh on outside but this shows that she's definitely a good human being...
@@leviosa5580 Even though it’s highly likely she’ll be the one to have that affair with George after all these hints and clues that were foreshadowed early on in the show.
@@Synonymous_Legion Yes, Brenda was the one George had an affair with 😭
if mary works with brenda, she will know brenda had affair with george in some other way, it's over
I think Brenda feels guilty because she and George have already a relationship, u can understand it from her reaction in the episode where Sheldon and missy are having dinner in her house and they guessed the father has a lover and from George reaction when mary sais she is going to work with Brenda.
I get the feeling that George Sr is becoming increasingly depressed with his life and filled with regrets, and now he is shutting down emotionally, thinking to himself, why even bother anymore? The fact that Georgie is taking responsibility and succeeding where George Sr failed is incredible.
Which will lead to decrease on george sr health, which will lead to the moment we know is coming.
Anyone wish that mary had that fate instead?
Understandable, he’s career life has been going down for a long time
I’m getting the feeling that this show is heading down a very depressing finale
Every person by the time they're married 20+ yrs with their jobs hittin' the shitter, gets to THIS point.
George Sr hasn't given up but he's not been beaten yet. He'll snap out of it.
@@burimfazliu3102 well .. if only Mary supported him on his job at the uni but she didn’t want to move away from her mom .. called him selfish and told him she won’t have that in her house.
She stopped him .. and his career never recovered
Yeah i gotta side with Mary on this one. First off i get George is upset this is where he's at but helping pay the bills & feeding his family is more important than his pride. Second looking down on an honest job is seriously rude. Third him dismissing Mary loosing her job is bullshit. Sure to him it might not have been as hard or important but she liked her job & the church is important to her.
Agree, im siding with Mary on that one too.
But this lead to mary become into yebus fangirl which is like becoming a trumper
It’s about pride since he really busted his ass for this all for it to be for nothing. Mary doesn’t come out as the good guy in this since she made reject a huge proposal from Oklahoma just because she didn’t want to leave Connie
Fourth: they are having a hard time finding job's their qualified for so they can't afford to be to picky.
@@fantomoffate160 Only reason i don't include the security guard bit is because, realistically, i don't think she would be able to handle it. Granted it's not some high stakes thing but going from a desk job to something more physically demanding is challenging.
Sorry George, NEVER look down at someone elses job, NEVER, big or small a job is a job
I don’t think he was looking down on them it more it hit his pride..
@@drexeltimogtimog5700 I agree
Misplaced pride maybe.
He's not looking down on the job. It's other people. THEY never let you forget your failures, your setbacks, or your shortcomings. Other people love to rub salt in the wound and gloat when you've had a setback. People are cruel, and nosy, and busybodies.
Agreed... never look down on other jobs. However, never accept a job with no upwards movement towards whatever goal you have. If a person doesn't have any goals, then no job is beneath them or not worthy of accepting
George insulted Mary the same way when she picked up tailoring in earlier season.
He told her it was a waste of 100 dollars because Mary bought tailoring materials but he never counted how much he spent on beer. Ppl always chose to ignore George being rude to Mary all the time .
If Mary was not a cooking ,cleaning ,church going mother the cooper family would have broken long ago.
The direction Georgie jr is headed could be successful but also very dangerous dropping out of school, opening gambling Dan etc.ppl wil defend saying he is rich but being rich is not everything. He does grow up to be rich but multiple divorce and no stable family.Missy grows up and has a messy life too .Its the decisions she takes even from her teenage years that we can get a clue from . So mary was not wrong in her assessments.
Sheldon though weird kid but he listens when corrected and apologises to his parents multiple times. He is the one that ends up with stable family and friends. He always had tendency to learn as shown even in BBT.
George is not a bad guy but he drinks whole day and contributes to nothing at home. With a husband that drinks whole day , eldest sin losing direction, a daughter thats acting out as a teenager which is normal but hard , a son that has no social and emotional intelligence who probably is not a psycho coz of Mary ,does Mary not deserve some credit for holding the family together.
How much more can we expect from one person. We cant judge ppl solely coz they are religious. Its her religiousness that keeps her in the marriage .
Ppl just like picking on Mary but George has never really helped Mary even in any household work.
Mary has been mean sometimes but how do you blame her. She has never been truly loved.
Very disappointed with Pastor Jeff at this point after all that Mary has done for him.
Exactly
Mary isn’t even emotionally there half the time for her family. She puts her way above everyone else’s. Hence their marriage falls flat
Honestly, if Mary had stuck with sewing, she could have probably opened her own shop. I also think the secretary job could still be doable if Mary practiced typing but I do agree. Neither George or Mary are perfect but Mary does have a tendency to play favorites. I think a lot of people are still mad that she took Sheldon's side without even asking Missy what was wrong.
But I always keep watching the episode And feel Mary is always the One that is emotionally present . She is the One that's attached to meemaw among her children. She has many times over And over again been emotionally present for Sheldon because he has no friends but George never bothered about that. Sheldon might he annoying but he does Not do things intentionally. He needs that emotional support otherwise ppl like them will have a break down.
At the Same time Mary is the One that criticises Sheldon And calls him arrogant too when required. In many episodes when they are eating dinner Mary is the One that calls out Sheldon.
We can't judge Mary on One instance with Missy. She has consistently been there for Missy but Missy never cared much .Eg Mary wanted to bond with Missy when she drove her to school.Mary did everything she could to get a trophy for Missy which she blasted. Mary was the One that setup the father daughter date with George And Missy.
She is the One that gave George the teenage pregnancy talk.
I do like George but he us carefree dad. He never spends quality time with his kids.
How much More can we expect from Mary. She works, cooks And cleans, when they are sick she takes care , she tucks them in ,she takes care of her mom.
We cant judge someone simply coz they are religious and they pray for their family. Even when she scolded georgie for the gambling Dan she was right. Its not for meemaw to lie to parents about those things and then later say Georgie is an idiot.
Meemaw is in many ways hypocritical. She calls Georgie an idiot for getting a girl idiot but all along Mary was right and meemaw is the one that pushed Georgie in that direction.
@@danatedawg1018 if Mary was nor a cooking ,cleaning ,church going mother wouldn't family have broken long ago. The direction Georgie is headed. Funny how the church crowd is no where to be seen when times got rough for the Coopers. In fact, they made their life more difficult.
Talking about forgiveness, compassion and how only the Lord should judge people is a lot easier than doing it themselves. I hope each of them is thinking to themselves that this church and community will spit on them the second their lives go wrong. That church should get some discipline from their higher-ups.
@@RBAWintrow The only one who expressed concern is a pastor that wants to get down mom's Bible belt. Mary knew that's how the church would react. She confessed she would react the same way. It is more than a leadership issue. It ia a cultural issue.
@@robertmoore6149 it's a B*ll Sh*t issue. Hypocrisy at it's finest. Love thy neighbor, forgiveness. Pfft. Have a cousin like Mary, bible thumper, a big wig in the church. (We are in our late 50s). She just got busted for transporting coke. 🤣
@@robertmoore6149 it is a lack of relationship with the Lord issue. Its when people go to church as if it was a country club, just for social reasons. So obviously the wrong reasons. Then we have those outside of church that believes God and Jesus are about the social club they make it to be and judge all christians for it. Ignoramus all around.
@@323azteca When the most out and proud Christians are pillars of the underside and less privileged parts of a community, instead of being a self congratulatory circle jerk who persistently tell others how wrong they are? Sure. But seeing how that's been the case for 20 centuries, i dont see that changing anytime soon.
This is the downside of living in a small town, especially one that shuns people when their son's girlfriend gets pregnant. If the Coopers lived in a more populated area, I think George Sr. wouldn't have felt so bad working in a supermarket or store. Big cities are more anonymous.
More like living in a small southern repressed town. Where God and worrying what people think about you are the only things that matter.
Your assessment is spot on. But do not feel bad it is just a tv show
I have to side with Mary on this one.
I've worked a crap job for many years. I did it because it mirrored my wife's job so we didn't need childcare, and it was a 3-minute commute from home. I agree that some jobs just don't seem demeaning, they are. It's still better than losing your home and not being able to support your family. I'd work at McDonalds before I'd be a jobless bum. Flip side, George is still mourning what he lost, so I do give him a bit of slack.
@@matts1166 wow how nice of you❤

We agree!
Georgie is stepping into his father's shoes slowly. You can feel that George is giving up on everything especially Mary but to be fair his family distanced themselves from him long ago and he became a 3rd wheel unimportant which is sad as he is a great father and husband.
I actually agree with Mary for once, what’s so bad about working in a grocery store, so what if your friends see you their and make fun of you nobody cares
They also having a hard time finding things their qualified for so they can't really be to picky about the jobs.
@@cristyflaherty4902 exactly
She seemed to care what people think when she was still working for the church; so it's almost the same to react to the way George is doing
@@ameliastorms7410 ok good point and she does the same when Sheldon doesn’t wanna normal kid stuff like when it was Billy’s birthday party in S3, Sheldon wasn’t invited and she made Brenda give her Sheldon’s invitation, even though Sheldon didn’t wanna go
Considering the town has a massive habit of making other peoples' business theirs and then judging that business from whatever position they're in, George is probably not willing to deal with people's bullshit in addition to forsaking his pride to make a living for the household. I don't entirely blame him in this specific point because god damn, if I went to work every day with people making fun of me for the "downgrade in my life" and coming home much the same due to my neighbors, I wouldn't be wanting to apply either.
Mary should have let George take that coaching job in Oklahoma
Yeah, that was his dream.
Once again, Young Sheldon is excellent family viewing aimed now at families with teenagers.
A good mother like Mary knows how to provide for her family when the economy turns sour.
Ok, I understand that George is in a rough spot right now because he was going to lose his job so he quit anyway to keep his dignity and maybe it would hurt his dignity having a job bagging up groceries, but like Mary said if it provides for the family why is it embarrassing and why should that be a bigger issue.
Not to mention, George could have been a little more understanding when Mary mentioned that she just lost her job at the church which is really thanks to Georgie but she’s still looking to provide for everyone including him.
didn't one of the boosters mocked him for working part-time at Ballard's? if Ace Ventura is any indication, small towns don't take sports losers kindly. Kinda hard to do service with a smile if random people will come up to you and smack talk your misfortune.
@@targetseeker
Yes, Roy one of the boosters made fun of George because he’s working at Ballards, and I understand working at a grocery store would shred his pride and dignity, but Mary’s also jobless but willing to take whatever work she can find even if she will get mocked for it because as she said why should the embarrassment stop them and be the bigger issue rather than them needing to work to earn money and provide for their family?
To also reiterate, Georgie’s about the whole reason why Mary lost her job at the church because he got Mandy pregnant and George wasn’t as sympathetic with her here as he should have been, now while the boosters are why he lost his coaching job, in Mary’s case it’s because of their own son that she’s also now jobless which is a tad more serious since he’s family and now everyone in the Medford county is mocking the whole Cooper family even more than they already were because of Georgie.
@Christopher Bingham
Exactly, thank you! Dr Sturgis had no trouble doing grocery job, yet, thanks to Sheldon, he was convinced by Dr Linkletter too to return to working with the two of them as a team for the pursuit of knowledge and science.
That might not work out the same way for George, but his family are who matter to him and he has to provide for along with Mary who lost her job due to their own son and even though it’s going to be awkward with her working with Brenda, at least Mary’s willing to take whatever work she can find to still provide for the family.
@@knowledgegathererdraftsave1979 while true that they need the money but they also need a whole lot more money than what the grocery job could provide which George already mentioned (mortgage) and starting low at the totem pole would give them minimum wage at best.
I wonder if the mortgage thing will explain the so called plothole from TBBT (the Cooper residence not looking like the one in YS).
We're going to be seeing a lot more negative aspects of George next season. 🙁
As a Husband and Father, I know that I have to provide for my family and if the job is legal and honorable I would do it, no matter how beneath my former position it was. It's not about getting knocked down, it's about getting back up!
I took jobs that no one would had, Had to swallow a lot of pride to pay the bills
Wow this is the first time I'm sided with Mary when they're arguing.
I get where George is at, but seriously what's worse Bagging groceries or unemployment
Some people have too much pride to actually be ok with a job like that.
It's not about bagging groceries per se. It's about the fact that as football coach, he was a very public person and no doubt everyone knows he was fired because it was people in the community who made it happen. And, no doubt his firing was in the local paper. So, it is perfectly reasonable that he would not want to work in perhaps the most public place in town serving the very people who got him fired as well as his former students. It is perfectly understandable why he will not do that.
@@gheller2261 supermarkets have less visible positions than cashiers.
Pretty obvious he’s still kicking himself for not taking the college coach job.

Ladies and gentlemen this is where George Cooper starts to slide to the dark side. Hate to see it but we all knew it was coming.
Why does this particular situation makes him go to the dark side?

Darth Vanius (Vanity) has reveal himself to us
Apparently providing for your family is less important than your own ego, talk about selfish. There is nothing wrong with taking a job to help your community and your loved ones, they have three smart kids and a mortgage to concern themselves with, they need all the financial help they can get. Say what you want to say about Mary and her many flaws, but at least she's actively trying to solve their job problems and even landed a job. Meanwhile, George is content on sulking, watching TV and drinking beers all day, instead of actually doing his part as a father.
Oh, holy crap with the moral indignation. Different people react to traumatic situations differently. Mary copes by keeping busy, George is coping doing the opposite. He's entitled to his depression, it just happened after all. And, no, there is no reason for him to take a job in the most public place in town doing low level tasks for the very people who got him fired. His firing is known by everyone because football coach is a public job and his firing is news that appears in the local paper. Few people lose their jobs and it is broadcast for public consumption. Now you want him to bag their groceries, not to mention be seen by his former students and player bagging groceries? Very easy for people to sit on their asses and spout off "well if it was me..." If time passes and he still has not moved on, then there's a problem. Right now he has a right to decompress.
@@gheller2261 Not when you are a father to three children and have a home with a mortgage that they all live in. He can decompress when his last child finishes high school and moves out the house. All you're saying is "But it would be embarrassing for him to get a job." that's not a good argument.
He is an adult, in his 40s (I think). If he still cares this much about what other people think about him, that's fucking sad. And being depressed and traumatized is not an excuse not to provide for his family. Pride is not more important than having a roof over your head, while his wife is doing all the actual work.
Mary has a job, takes care of the kids, makes dinner, and cleans the house. George works part-time and that's all he does. That's not fair, to anyone.
@@LPSlight0 That's a lovely, chest thumping, testosterone driven "be a man" response. One that does not comport with the reality of how people tick. Let me guess, if one of your kids is in despair and you have to face school refusal, your response would be "suck it up!" I am guessing you have a cabinet full of guns that you will never need. It is a breath of fresh air that this show is portraying a reasonable response to a personal trauma.
@@gmh471 Both of them lost their jobs and are traumatized. You think Mary ain’t traumatized after being shunned by the church like that? She just lost her job too but she’s doing her best to find a new one so she could provide for the family. She’s hella considerate of George, even encouraging him to look for jobs together with her, but tf does George do?
They have responsibilities and they need to be strong for their kids
@@gmh471 that's not a be a man response, it has nothing to do with him being a man. that's a "be a parent" response. Mary is being a parent, trying to provide and care for her family. He should be doing the same. Pride shouldn't be over taking care of his family
Just recently watched "American Underdog" which is about the greatest underdog in football history. Kurt Warner lost his place in the Steelers all because he didn't have faith in himself and had to wait years until another chance came to him. He bagged groceries to keep his family afloat, and played arena football which he looked at with disdain as "not real football", but despite his pride, he still did it until he finally got the chance to play for the Rams. tbh this guy becomes prominent later and not in George Sr's time so...that inspirational story probably wouldn't do anything since it wouldn't have happened yet but you know bagging groceries for your family isn't something to be ashamed of. George Sr really has given up. I think even he believes he sucks at being a coach.

@@Theaterg15 i mean when working with brenda means mary will find out they had affair, maybe out of guilt, brenda or george will confess to her

George is a great guy, but he could use a little of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s wisdom: "All labor has dignity."
George is under tremendous pressure, no wonder he passed away earlier in his age according to Sheldon
In the sitcom they made Sheldon's father to be an outright drunk that overall was a good man. Here they are showing it in full and its heart breaking.
3:17 his reaction says it all. George Sr has already been cheating beyond the night at the bar. It’s clear those times he leaves it’s not just to get a drink at the bar it’s him confiding in Brenda who’s also desperate and alone seeking comfort in someone she trusts.
Not yet.. his reaction is because of the moment the two had earlier in the season and now he feels attracted to her so the solution is to stay away from her but Mary is now going to be working with her.

Having family in England that runs a company that employs 50 people, I was shocked to learn that it is almost impossible to fire someone even if there is good reason.
Don't know why theyre suprised theyre not qualified. Mary from her early 20s was a stay at home mom and I dont think she went to college and George has been a high school coach for the last decade or so and most likely didnt go to college either. They dont have much in qualifications.

I really like how this program shows the hypocrisy of institutionalized Christianity.
Brenda and George are acting weird. I know they had that thing where they didn't actually do anything, but I figured that was done. Is this what I think it is?
It seems like it. In the Big Bang theory Sheldon tells penny he once caught his father cheating on Mary with another woman (in bed) and they never talked about it and then he died. I think that woman might be Brenda. (Sorry for my English)
For once I actually agree with Mary here. Yeah, losing your job is a real bummer but when you have three children at home and one of them has another baby coming then perhaps you should swallow your pride and get it over with
Sounds horrible but their losses arent the same. Its one thing to lose a job that provides money, its another to lose a career with decades of work put into it.

It was nice of Brenda to give Mary a job, despite their history, but things are going to go downhill from here. I predict that this is when George will become the worthless drunk that Sheldon remembers from the Big Bang Theory.
Why did the church fire Mary? I know about the whole baby thing but isn't the church supposed to support its people and community?
C'mon, this a southern baptist church in the late 80s or early 90s and one of the families there has a kid who got a girl pregnant out of wedlock and won't marry her. You really thought, that during those times, that hypocritical institution wouldn't have fired her?

Is Brenda the woman that George Sir will cheat with 🤔🤔🤔
I'm working on a theory that George did not die. He instead packed a bag and left. Mary only said he died because it was less embarrassing.
The way his character has been developed, there is no way he would walk out on his kids, especially Missy.
@@gheller2261 I've watched enough TV to learn never to say never. I'm not even saying it's a good idea. But I can say after dealing with Connie, Mary and Sheldon he could easily take off. Maybe have a conversation with Missy before he left.
I’m sorry they went down this path. While alluding to hard times in TBBT I think this was a mistake to go this deep.
I'm sorry for all of them - it's very sad and unfortunately very realistic. But I love that they're doing it, because it's realistic; there's a lot to learn about compassion and forgiveness in this show, the fact that none of us can see the big picture when we are in it. I think it also fits perfectly with the idea that Sheldon probably saw the fighting, vaguely knew his parents were unhappy, but didn't really understand the deeper nuances. Like how they were probably both well-meaning but fallible people who just didn't know how to communicate the right way to help each other. I don't think George is uninterested in finding work, for example - I think he's just discouraged in general that all his efforts at home and at work, either flop, or somebody else gets credit for being the leader. He probably resents Mary's help in this moment, because it's yet again someone else calling the shots. It's hard to be the leader when your partner outpaces you. Mary really means to help, but doesn't understand this side of his psyche, his need to be recognized for his own initiative, merits and abilities. Prodding doesn't help with that need. And for the folks being critical of his wallowing a bit - depression does make it hard to leap into action quickly and do what you logically know needs to be done. I think they are all stressed, but George Sr. is experiencing true depression, and this is a very accurate portrayal of those emotions.
What I really hope is, as Narrator Sheldon relives this story, he has an epiphany and sees how every family member, though flawed, was really pretty lovable too. Especially his dad. It feels like that's the one thing not resolved in TBBT, that still needs to happen.
Can't exactly say I don't sympathize with George. I've got two degrees and I'm still struggling to find a solid job, but I sure as shit am not settling for bagging groceries. I didn't work my ass off for years to take a minimum wage job.
I agree with you on that. He would be going down on pay
I have two advanced degrees and I've worked in menial jobs before. Not ideal but better than watching your bank account dwindle, and also gives you some time to look for opening that you truly like.
I’m curious if st this point George is having an affair with Brenda, which is why he questions if Mary is sure it’s a good idea to work with her?
Play they seriously fired him from coaching what for?
I like how shit is going down so bad for the family the one person to make it normal is finally seeing Brenda again
Based on Brenda's body language, this is the first time I have come to believe that she and George have already been intimate. And George's reaction did nothing to dispell that thought.
Why did Mary lose her job??
this show got real dark - i dont want to watch a show thats dark.
Jesus loves you.
Mary is my least favourite Cooper, I don’t like the way she treats George ,and her hypocritical ,attitude.
Maybe we aren’t suppose to like her,lol
The Mary and George parts was the only good parts to the show, the rest with the Sheldon the guy in the chair and the midget was awful
George is super annoying honestly
May be it’s time to stop the series… can’t see a family going down… slowly starting to hate this series… young sheldon not young anymore…..
Jesus turned water into wine .... pls stop making jokes from scripture ...it's dis respectful
God DOES have a sense of humor. He created YOU didn't he? (rhetorical)
