Welcome to my channel! My name is Devon and I live and garden in Zone 7b, Maryland where I live with my wonderful husband Greg and our 3 children. Although I am a native ‘Pennsylvanian’ at heart❤️. Gardening has brought me through many challenges in my life and is an integral part of maintaining good mental (and physical!) health for myself and I believe it can be that for you too!
We live in a typical suburban neighborhood and live on a small .2 acre lot. I share about my love for all things gardening and how to turn even a very small space into something beautiful! I also love sharing a bit of my home/lifestyle with you as well including bringing the garden ‘inside’ for a bit of DIY and a little decor here and there and occasionally a garden inspired recipe and outing to a garden center, public garden, or wherever the flowers may lead😊. Thanks for being here friends!🌸

Today I am taking you for a casual walk through my back gardens and container plantings to see how things are looking, what's blooming,, what's new, and sharing with you some future dreams/ideas I have for my tiny little space! Enjoyed your Sept tour!
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it 😊🌸
Thank you for sharing your lovely garden. Would you share with us where you purchased the zinnia raspberry seeds from. What a lovely flower and yours are doing amazing. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching! I purchased mine from park seed and also found some at one of my local garden centers. I know Johnnys seed also carries them. They are a beautiful flower!
Enjoyed. Like all the seating areas.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Ahhh yes. Our summer is winding down. Lovely video! I've cut back some things that were looking bad and it made the flowers around them pop and look so much better. I think next year I'll let myself make some later purchases to brighten up the waning spots. I'm planning on another hot, dry summer next year but maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised with more rain. More raspberry ripples for sure!!!
I think I may do that sooner than later with my black eyed Susan’s! I just don’t like the way they look when they are out of bloom🤷♀️. I love the profusion series of zinnias for these hot and dry summers and to still add color when everything else is looking a little sad. I definitely want to try more varieties but will probably always use the raspberry ripples!🌸😊
Thanks for the tour . I have been on the look out for HS date. Guess I'm not going to find them at a box store ? Where did you acquire yours ? I think I will have to break down and order from Johnny's this year. I have such a tiny yard that I have tried to make due with seeds from box stores :(
I got my H.S. Date from longfield gardens. Sadly I haven’t seen them in big box stores. I hear you! I try so hard to restrain myself from ordering too much but of course every year I do more than planned!
Thanks for sharing everything that's working for you as well as what is not. I so can relate, I'm pretty new to gardening and it's encouraging to see that it's ok when everything in the garden doesn't work as well as we want and needing to try something else. Thank you so much! Your gardens are beautiful!
Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad the video was relatable to you! I feel like you just never stop learning and trying new things with gardening. It never gets boring😊. I try to keep things real and show the good and the bad! I appreciate your very kind comment so much!
I love the Weigela on the side of your house. Do you know which one it is? Also, what sun direction is it in??
I sadly don’t know which one it is! It was here when we moved in. I’m guessing one of the older varieties. That side of our house faces east😊
So pretty!! Love the raspberry ripple zinnias and sunflowers 🌻! I’m going to add them to my list. Who do you get them from?
Thank you so much! I got the desert sun sunflowers from johnnys seeds and the raspberry ripple came from park seed. I believe johnnys carries them now as well. And other sites with better shipping may carry both as well? I also saw the raspberry ripples in one of my local garden centers this year!
@@onegardenatathyme Thank you! did you direct sow?
I have direct sown in the past but this year I started from seed the beginning of May. Just outside in seed cell trays (I don’t have an indoor growing set up).
@@onegardenatathyme Thank you! That’s helpful because neither do I and great to now I can start them outside :)
Yes they are so easy! I did also cover with the humidity dome that came with the kit just to help them sprout even quicker. I believe it was a burpee kit from Home Depot.
Beautiful September garden tour Thank you!
Thank you! I appreciate you watching so much!🌸
Your dog having a wonderful time in his garden!!!!!
Yes she loves it!😊🐾🌸
sorry I meant she
No worries at all!😊
Devon your garden is still looking lovely ! I enjoyed the tour.
Thank you Nancy! I’m glad you enjoyed it!🌸
You are an artist in your flower garden! Very pretty placement of your flowers! You may want to overwinter your reddish black elephant ear inside your house, and bring it out next year. It's a nice addition and makes a splash of color with the large leaves. You look like your finger is doing well, so happy for you! SE Pennsylvania (daughter went to U Pitt.)
Thank you so much Nancy! I did end up moving them to containers for the remainder of the season and will try them again next year! I am still having a lot of challenges with my finger but am hopeful to get in with some good doctors to move me forward!😊. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for this video, I've just suscribed based on it :)

I love your garden. I’m an all color gardener too.
Thank you so much! It’s just too hard to choose only a few colors😂
Your gardens look great. What zone are you Devon
Hi Kim! I am in zone 7b Maryland😊
Hey Devon, I have my elephant ears in pots and then that way I just cut them down and put the pots in my basement in fall and then just pull them back out again in the spring and they bloom again and you can plant little cute annuals around them if you prefer in the pot 😉 I have a green one and a purple one that have bloomed for many years now 🤩 Thanks for sharing all your new plantings 🥰
Hi Lorraine! I may do that too! I think I will dig them up and transfer to a pot for the rest of the season and use them somewhere next year! Do you water them at all over the winter?
@@onegardenatathyme No, I do not water all winter and then just put them back out in Spring
forgot to say i'm so happy to see you able to use your hand again.
Thank you! It still has a long way to go but I’m grateful to at least be able to use it and not be in a splint! I really appreciate you watching the video!
are those little butterflies or moths at the beginning of your video? I have those exact same ones never had them before and they move so fast and my eyes are so bad I can't tell the they are.
They are pollinating moths, they love that salvia and cover it morning to night!
@@onegardenatathyme do they do damage like the cabbage moths? are they friends or foes lol
They are friends!😊
Very pretty fall garden!
Thank you so much!
So pretty! You are using your hand a lot. Is it still healing? I'm doing the great debate about when to cut back my perennials. Some are past their prime but I don't want summer to end!
Hi Patti! Thank you! I am trying to use my hand but my index finger is still unfortunately having a hard time. Still a lot of pain, swelling, and stiffness. I keep hoping it will slowly continue to get better! I know what you mean, I always struggle whether or not to cut back or leave a lot for the birds😊. I’m sad to see summer ending but trying to look forward to fall (just not winter lol)!
My prayers for you continue. I hope you've found good medical care. It is an amazing difference when I find good care. Take care ♥
Thank you Patti! I am working on getting some second opinions and getting on right medications etc for the pain. I appreciate your care so much!
@@onegardenatathyme ♥
I am trialing rudebekia and coneflower as well. Just planted about a week ago. My issue is I don’t have any place in back or front that get 6 plus hours of sun. Hopefully with our Louisiana climate it will make it. I only have two trees but the are HUGE! A pine in the back and oak in the front. Can you suggest a hydrangea for my yard situation?
I hope your rudbeckia and coneflower are successful! My Annabelle and Limetta hydrangeas do great in a good amount of shade. With your warmer climate I’m not sure exactly how they would perform but may be worth a try! Also some of the panicle hydrangeas like limelight which usually prefer a lot of sun could do well with more shade in your zone. I hope that helps!
Amazing garden! 👍
Thank you so much!🌸
Wonderfully selected plants Beautiful dog ❤
Thanks so much!❤️
Your garden is so beautiful! I was thinking when you were showing the 2nd (limetta?) Hydrangea- the one thatvgets burned...and then you showed some zinnias and dahlia that were in a little too much shade, what if you swapped those around next year? Just a thought. Anyway thanks for sharing, I can't wait for my gardens to be as pretty as yours.
Thank you so much for watching and your very kind comments and suggestions! My garden is only 3 years old, so much can happen in a short amount of time😊
Love that ornamental oregano, did not see it this year , so cute 🤩
I had never seen it before this year! I found it at black creek in Lancaster😊. Hope you enjoy your Labor Day today!
@@onegardenatathyme You too, actually just getting back from Longwood Gardens...what a beautiful day 🤩
Oh what a wonderful day for longwood! I didn’t make it this season but hope to around Christmas 😊
@@onegardenatathyme I'm embarrassed to say that I got a membership back in January and this was my first visit, ugh !!! I need to make up for last time now and try to get there like once a month 😜

Oh my gosh, the same thing happened with my Purple Pillar hedge! So disappointing! I was wondering if it was due to the backyard of rain this summer, and it weakened the stems. Our grass looks awful, too 😕.
Oh no I’m sorry to hear that! It’s such a bummer. We ended up trimming them back to about 8ft and may need to keep doing that every spring. I was hoping they would be sturdier but like you said maybe some years will be better than others depending on weather etc!
@Devon Smedley What is that beautiful purple-flowering shrub shown on 13:42 please?
Hi! 👋 believe you are referring to the clumps of blue ageratum? They are annuals and were planted in groups of 5-6 I believe. So they do kind of look like a shrub!
It’s for sharing your beautiful garden with us today. Always enjoy a good garden tour.
