    Sorry my man. Mistakes happen. You get so focused on specific things, maybe the outcome itself, and sometimes miss the forest through the trees. Happened to me more than once! For folks who are planning their own theaters, there are “Riser Calculators” that account for all the math, including sight lines, etc. He’s right, there is a LOT to consider. AVS forums (home theater construction channel) is a treasure. If you’re planning a HT project, I implore you to spend weeks going through projects, page by page, to see all these little details. You’ll see routine themes and lookouts. It saved me so many times. Thanks for sharing. Blessums to the wife for (hopefully) not rubbing the couch thing in your face. 🙏

    I think because we hear sound around us all the time having it move around us isn’t always as noticeable to our brain. Like if I spin in a circle near a sound effect in a game it won’t make as much of an impression as if I move the camera forward and back across the sound. Whatever is the most intense is what we notice. I think for height speakers to make a big impression they have to play loud sudden sounds, or slowly pan a focused sound up them and leave it there for a pause, like if you heard the rain from the front speakers and plinks above you you notice the heights. Or if when you walk into the rain it plays all around you but then thunder sounds from above.

    I'll save you 13min. AI summary: This video is about a home theater project gone wrong. The RUclipsr wanted to rearrange his seating in both his main and tiny theaters. He planned to remove the sectional couch from his main theater and replace it with Valencia Naples seats. He also planned to move the Valencia Tuscany seats from his tiny theater to his main theater. However, he made a crucial mistake in his planning: he failed to account for the height of the Valencia Naples seats, which obstructed the view of the screen when someone was sitting in them. This led to a lot of unnecessary work, including taking apart and reassembling the sectional couch and moving the seats back and forth between the two theaters. In the end, the RUclipsr learned a valuable lesson about the importance of careful planning and measuring when designing a home theater. He also shared that his wife eventually relented and allowed him to remove the sectional couch, which improved the overall look and feel of the room. The video ends with a teaser for the RUclipsr's next project, which involves installing a projector in his tiny theater.

    eels like you could make modifications to make it work. Can’t you rebuild the riser taller or add a little platform under the rear seats? Mount the screen a little higher? There are some options besides the old brown couch. Think about it and take another whack at it.

    • @GeorgeTheaterAtHome
      @GeorgeTheaterAtHome День назад

      The bottom of my screen is 13” off the floor. My first row of seating it 11.5’ from the screen to the ears of the listener. The 2nd row is 17’ from the screen to the ears of the listener. My riser is 9” tall. I wish I had made the 1st row the main listening position. Being closer to the screen would be better. My screen is 145” diagonal 16:9. My riser should probably be a foot taller than it is. But even then I’m not sure if the second row would be able to see over the heads of the people in the first row. Good luck with your project! Measure measure measure everything you possibly can. Make sure every seat can see clearly.

    Not taking into consideration your aesthetic, there are several solutions, build up the rear platform and recarpet, change the legs on the chairs in the back row (from what I can see of them in the video), Make a second shorter platform to put under the rear chairs, put up a sign the opposite of the ones on some carnival rides to prevent too small of height children from riding them. In your case the sign would have a horizontal line and text says "If you're taller then this line you must sit in the back row" or something to that effect. Bolster seats for back rowl. Tell people in the front row to slouch, which a lot of people do naturally watching a movie.

And, HT mistakes - my mistake is spending what little money I had/have and all of the time on my garbage (when compared to everyone else's - especially Youthman tours) 7.2.4 set-up in my living room. I am the only one living here now and EVERYTHING I watch is now nit-picked and criticized for every little audio and visual mistake and "could have done betters" to the point that the simple pleasure of watching a movie is like work. I can't even watch the older films I used to like because the thought of "It's look and sound horrible". Which is really rare for basements. You can make it work with 8ft tall ceilings, though it will be a bit cramped. But many basement ceilings are even lower than that, and you simply cannot have a full height riser in those situations.
