Opepe
In its heyday, the Ōpepe township boasted a hotel, a store, homes for about 120 residents and an Armed Constabulary stockade on the western edge. It was also the scene of a one-sided skirmish between European militia and Māori in June 1869. Nine Bay of Plenty Cavalry members died when a band of warriors led by Māori leader and guerrilla fighter Te Kooti attacked their camp. Trooper George Crosswell, who had been drying his rain-drenched uniform, managed to escape and travel naked across 64 kilometres of rough country to report the attack. A five-minute-long detour from the Northern walking track leads to the cemetery of the nine soldiers.

Ōhinemutu Village was settled by the Ngāti Whakaue iwi (tribe), a sub-tribe of the Te Arawa waka (canoe) journeyed from the Pacific homeland of Hawaiiki to New Zealand around 1350 AD. The explorers chose this location for their home due to its setting along the shores of Lake Rotorua and the abundant geothermal energy which was useful for cooking, bathing and heating. #maoriculture #history #oh...

Stories of suicide are linked with the tunnel, and the tragic railway accident of the woman named Emily Bollard appears to be the basis of the haunted reputation of the tunnel. Apparently, when the tunnel was still in use by the railway, Emily had been walking through it and was killed by an oncoming locomotive. It is unclear whether she deliberately committed suicide or if her death was just a...

Yes, I have had a poltergeist experience more than once, in many places I've lived, where things have taken place. My children and I have seen, felt and heard the experiences. Things were moved or displaced. Breathing, dark figures, rooms going dark, apparitions moving through walls, piano playing and freezing cold spots. Along with this, dark figures of men appearing, swaying back and forth and moans. Footsteps up staircases and cutlery shaking violently in a kitchen hutch. Along with apparitions taking the shape of a friend's boyfriend, shuffling across the room promising to help her, but it wasn't him. A feeling of suffocation and pressure on the chest and darkness hovering over one's body. Oh yes, I've experienced that and much, much more in the many places I have grown up in and lived in as an adult. But I know they are demons, there is no such thing as ghosts. And calling on the name of Jesus makes them leave swiftly. There are spirit beings, but not of those who have died. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that there are spirit beings, both good and evil. But the Bible negates the idea that the spirits of deceased human beings can remain on earth and 'haunt' the living. Some scriptures to back this up are: Hebrews 9:27 - 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 - Philippians 1:23 - Matthew 25:46 - Luke 1:22-24 The Bible teaches very clearly that there are indeed beings who can connect with and appear in our physical world. The Bible identifies these beings as angels and demons. Angels are spirit beings who are faithful in serving God. Angels are righteous, good, and holy. Demons are fallen angels, angels who rebelled against God. Demons are evil, deceptive, and destructive. According to 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, demons masquerade as “angels of light” and as “servants of righteousness.” Appearing as a “ghost” and impersonating a deceased human being definitely seem to be within the power and abilities that demons possess. The closest biblical example of a “haunting” is found in Mark 5:1-20. A legion of demons possessed a man and used the man to haunt a graveyard. There were no ghosts involved. It was a case of a normal person being controlled by demons to terrorize the people of that area. Demons only seek to “kill, steal, and destroy” (John 10:10). They will do anything within their power to deceive people, to lead people away from God. This is very likely the explanation of “ghostly” activity today. Whether it is called a ghost, a ghoul, or a poltergeist, if there is genuine evil spiritual activity occurring, it is the work of demons. So, I hear you ask what about the instances in which “ghosts” act in “positive” and the ways psychics who claim to summon the deceased can gain true and useful information from them? Again, it is crucial to remember that the goal of demons is to deceive. If the result is that people trust in a psychic instead of God, a demon will be more than willing to reveal true information. Even good and true information, if from a source with evil motives, can be used to mislead, corrupt, and destroy. Interest in the paranormal is becoming increasingly common. There are individuals and businesses that claim to be “ghost-hunters,” who for a price will rid your home of ghosts. Psychics, séances, tarot cards, and mediums are increasingly considered normal. Human beings are innately aware of the spiritual world. Sadly, instead of seeking the truth about the spirit world by communing with God and studying His Word, many people allow themselves to be led astray by the spirit world. The demons surely laugh at the spiritual mass-deception that exists in the world today. Do not be deceived. That is why a lot of people in organised hauntings of places, feel the presence and heaviness surround them. People have also reported being scratched, bitten, hit or pushed by these entities. That is because they are menacing and hate humans. Demons are not friendly and work for their ruler Satan, not the ruler they had in the first instance, God. They followed the wrong master and now they move in torment and hatred towards humans and can trick those that are seeking solace or a word from those who have crossed over, and what they receive may reveal truth about the person's life and who they were or what they wore or liked, but it isn't them, so don't allow yourself to be fooled. When a person dies, their soul lies in a state of 'sleep,' in wait for judgement. It is appointed once for a person to die, and then comes judgement. Hebrews 9:27. God is the only good and pure spirit that loves each and every one of us and will never bring any malice against us, but because He is a just God He will judge every human being that has lived, lives now and is to come. If we live a life of repentance and righteousness, we pass form judgement to life. For those who practice corruption and live impure lives, they will be judgement before His Great White Throne of Judgement for their deeds and sadly thrown into the lake of fire, along with the devil (Satan and the fallen angels, (demons), who rebelled against God and followed him. Their fate is sealed already, don't let yours be. Repent from your sinful and wicked ways and accept Jesus through the sacrifice He made for you on the cross at Calvary. Only then will you pass from death to life. The will of the Father is for all of us to know and believe on His Son Jesus Christ, for our eternal refuge after we pass from this life to the next. I hope those who read this will do just that, and seek the LORD, while He may be found. Don't wait, because time is not on our side.

Most of them couldn't catch a break and still don't here in the US. Down in New Zealand in 1869 it must have been like the wild, wild west of the US at that time.
