Historical St Thomas church and cemetery

- St Thomas' Anglican Church is a heritage-listed Anglican church located in the western Sydney suburb of Mulgoa in the City of Penrith local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The church forms part of the Diocese of Sydney. It was designed by Reverend Thomas Makinson, first incumbent priest and James Chadley and built from 1836 to 1838 by James Atkinson and William Chisholm (Atkinson also carved the pinnacled reredos himself). It is also known as St. Thomas Anglican Church and St Thomas Church of England. The property is owned by Anglican Church Property Trust. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.[2]
St Thomas' Church is located on land granted to the Anglican Church in 1831 by pioneer, William Cox.[2][3] The church contains a mechanical organ that was built in 1868 by J. W. Walker of London, with a manual compass of 56 notes, a hitch-down Swell pedal, with 159 pipes.

You both did a wonderful job Julia! I didn't know the bush had trees. I guess I thought it was all dry bushes, brush, and dry soil. I was very impressed by all the Cox Family graves. Each one had its own very different and very unique wrought iron fences. They were just so beautiful, unique and in some cases very, very elaborate. I haven't seen some as nice as these in a long, long time. The church has stood the test of time - that's amazing in itself. Best wishes to you and Jason! XO ♥️ Janet

@@cemeteriesdownunder9247 My mum would take us to many as she loved Chapels and Churches. St Bartholomew's Anglican Church and Cemetery is a heritage-listed and local. William Lawson the explorer and his wife are buried there. Not sure if you have documented that one but i’ll keep viewing through your great work. I found a remote one driving the back of Gloucester or Walcha NSW. Maybe 12 burials with sticks mainly but i found two direct family members of the Ashton…Ashton Circus. It was between a fork through a dirt track. Amazing history we just pass by.
@@Its_Shaun_the_Sheep I haven't done St Bartholomew's yet as they have been doing restoration and expanding the road but it's definatley one I'll do . that one in Glouster sounds amazing and thankyou for your kind words .
