My Personal Top 15 C64 Games From 1983
Hello and welcome to another episode of "My personal TOP games"
The games featured in this episode are my personal top 15 Commodore 64 games released in 1983, ranked from 15th to 1st. Thus, this list represents not a 'general top games' list, but my own personal favorites, meaning these are games I played and enjoyed as a kid (back in the 80s) and/or continue to play today. This approach differs from the 'Top 50 games' lists, where I feature games that I believe are 'generally' the best for a particular year/computer, and those lists are also not ranked.

Top 50 Amstrad CPC games of 1985 - in under 10 minutes

Hello and welcome to the second episode of TOP 50 Amstrad CPC games in under 10 minutes. 1985 was a very fine year for Amstrad CPC gaming with games like Commando, Abu Simbel Profanation, The Way of the Exploding Fist and Cauldron released back then. The gap in general quality of the games released between the 1984 and 1985 games is quite obvious. Games are, as always, presented in no particula...

Hello and welcome to the 9th episode of evolution of MS-DOS gaming. We are in the year of 1990 now. Games using the VGA graphics and Soundblaster/Adlib for music/soundfx were now common and that made the PC games really high quality and comparable to the likes of Amiga. And there were a lot of good MS-DOS games released in 1990 (that's why the list is, again, so long in this episode). Games lik...

Hello and welcome to the eighth episode of evolution of MS-DOS gaming. We are in the year of 1989 now. Lots of games started using VGA graphics and that showed the public that PC, although still regarded as more of a business machine, can also play games with good graphics (and sound if the game supported Adlib or Soundblaster). And there were a lot of good MS-DOS games released in 1989 (that's...

No "Gribbly's Day Out" by Andy Braybrook? I used to like that one.😋👍
Kik Start, Racing Destruction Set and Way of the Exploding Fist were fantastically competitive games for two players. 😁👍
Favourites: Boulderdash (played it for hours) and Spy vs Spy (best with 2 players). Raid Over Moscow control stupidly hard. 😁👍
I remember all these, too! I bought Stop The Express and Aquaplane. I first saw Atic Atac at my mate's house. So fast! Did you not come across Pheenix back in the day? 😁👍
I did - and I included it into the "top 50 ZX Spectrum games of 1983" video you can find in my colletcion here. It just didn't make my own personal Top 15 for the 1983 :) Still a good game for sure.
I remember playing most if not all of these. The Hobbit was engrossing but frustrating. Did you know the secret is to wait an exact amount of times in certain locations? How could anyone guess that?! 😁👍
I used guides in computer magazines that were available back at that time. Good but (sometimes) frustrating adventure game for sure :)
My 1st computer back in the days
Wow, Jet set willy and Monty on the run brings back so many memories of my childhood lol. Thanks for sharing
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
Apache. The only and the best flight simulator for Speccy. Yeah, I know, SF Harrier and all this stuff. But Apache is the best and the only. PS. Elite is not a flight simulator :)
Hawkeye should be on the list.
Now that I think about it - yeah it should probably be on the list, but I overlooked this one. Thanks for mentioning it and for watching the video!
Fort Apocolypse? Lode Runner? cmon, your list is garbee
There were many games released in 1987 for C64 and we all have our own favoruites and/or games that we think are worthy of top 50 spot ;) Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Golden memories!
My pleasure. I'm glad the video brought back nice memories (that's the point in these videos anyway) and thanks for watching!
Loads of Apple II ports here.
And the difference between those two system was just 16KB of memory and a little better sound chip. Anyway, i loved the zx spectrum versions more. Just because the felt to me more "cute"
OMG, West Bank! What a simple, yet fun game!!! It was getting hard as hell when you start to get enemies that you have to wait and not shoot until they draw. Hardest ones were the fat guy and dude that either draw weapon or pulls up cash bag. That was just evil!
What? Herebert's Dummy Run? Never heard of it. It's seems like from the same developer who made Pyjamarama! Nodes of Yesod = Starquake~!
I played Herbert's Dummy run a lot when I was a kid - it was even listed as "Pyjamarama 3" in some magazines :) Nodes of Yesod is still one of my favourite ZX Spectrum games of all time. Thanks for watching!
C64 seems to have higher resolution even in multicolor mode than CPC. So the sprites can be a bit smaller and the screen can show larger area with higher details. CPC graphics have more vibrant colours but chunky sprites. Don't forget, you are watching these vids on modern monitors with sharp images. Back then the CPCs had their own CRT monitors, where those colours bleeded very much.
da vidmo če kero poznam sem c 64 kupu nekje proti koncu življenja tm nekje v srednji šoli, buck rogers, ski (a ni to nei podovnega kot olympic skier),hunckback, pitstop, miss pac man, donkey kong, manic miner, scramble, monn patrol, beac head(čeprov jo nisem in jo še zdaj komaj razumem),
Scramble! I had it on cassette tape 😊
I'm interested in these videos but the 20-second intro is an instant block. Longer than lost professional TV shows and even some movies. No reason except wasting time. Bye
Thanks for pointing this out. I did shorten intro a bit in the newer videos. And thanks for watching!
nice guide for us who didn't have the system and don't know what to choose from the huge library.
Thank you!
In my youth, I spent Thanksgiving afternoon playing Krackout (especially with its interesting gameplay character variety) along with my moms classical music playing as the scent of dinner looms while being prepared upstairs...I'll never forget this!
The only thing going for the Amstrad was it had more colours to choose from so some games gave off the impression of being more detailed because of it that coupled with it's lower resolution made it also look like more was on screen as a result. In motion though the games are pretty slow in comparison and usually the sound is equally as poor. I do remember thinking back in the day that Amstrad games looked so colourful though so whoever chose the more vibrant colours when it was being developed certainly chose well
my c64 my fav system of all time
Both are great machines, I've programmed, and continue to program on both, mostly thru emulators, Atari with the Action cartridge , and the C64 , CBM studio in machine language. Facts, some look better on Atari's some look better on C64. The Atari has the Palette advantage, 256 over 16 colors, and yes, I think Atari's colors are better, more vibrant , the C64's always look kinda washed out, even on a real C64. but its still good for games. The C64's , 8 , 24 bit wide sprites compared Atari's 5 8 bit ones. both are nice to work with, though it you know what youre doing, with interrupts you can put more sprites on both machines. add character set blitters, in machine code, and you got you a game with lots of animated shapes. and yes the Atari can do multi-colored sprites, you just overlap two of them, and where the colors overlap, you get a third color. SID is a great sound chip for music, but I think the Atari's 4 voice pokey has better sound effects. and no the C64 doesnt, wipe the floor with the Atari , but it does have some advantages. so stop freakin arguing about which is better, and be damn glad you had one of these great computers. good video by the way, enjoyed it .
Nicely written and I agree! Thanks for watching!
If Super Hangon isn't here I will not be amused.
El mejor era reneade. Comando rolling thunder. Rtype. Camelot warriort
I mostly liked Buck Rogers when I first got it, but quickly became bored with it. I'd sen screenshots of the Coleco version of the game and was disappointed that the C64 version didn't have the big towers and the trench segment.
Some of these Amsoft games came with my CPC. I remember my mates laughing at Crazy Golf.
Mikie, Bomb Jack, Leaderboard Golf, 1942, Jack the Nipper, Ping Pong, International Karate,
👍👍
Beach Head was my favorite. One of the few I actually bought! Nice choices for 1983!
Thanks! And yes, I played Beach Head lots when I was a kid and still play it today. Great little game with great atmosphere. Thanks for watching!
Love your list! The ones I miss are Archon and one of the Jumpman games (probably Jr). Also have a soft spot got Hover Bovver! 😊
Thanks! I know Archon is very high on most retro gamers lists, but I never really got into the game and didn't like it all that much.
Hover bovver was a hoot 😃
Beach Head is over 40 years old... .. .
It is indeed, and so are we :) Thanks for watching!
I remember Beachhead 2 ‘Medic’
Good choices ,in my limited collection of ~200 games i have all but 2 of these.
Thanks!
Hi RetroNoName, would love to see 1993 done as well 😃 Maybe just "Top 10 Commodore 64 (C64) games of 1993/1994" ? would love to see it. Lemmings may be considered by some, as the last "big commercial" release for the C64, which wasn't until 1994 🤯 I truly love these vids, & am kindly requesting one more "Top Commodore 64 (C64) games" just to complete the C64's "commercial" era 😃
It's amazing what they managed to do with the Spectrum with such limited hardware and the processor doing all the work, more recently they've amazingly even got multicolour engines to work around the colour clash problem.
F1 mgmt was incredible fun
Katakis ❤
Orion Software must've had a magic wand of sorts (or mad machine code skills). PC-Man and Paratrooper are playable to this very day. the rest...
Fancy the spectrum not having the colour brown back then
+++🛃🐸🦘___OH YES+++THE COMMODORE 64+++ 😘+++LOVED MINE 🛃+++GOOD STUFF+++💯%🛂+++
Galaxy, boulderdash, pacman, donkey kong, International soccer, river raid These are some of my favorites that I can remember.
Writing on the wall for the Amiga by this time.
H.E.R.O. was such a nice game. Ahead of its time.
Ramsak!
+++🤣🛃+++FROM THE "GOOD OLE DAYS"+++COMMODORE 64 HAD IT+++🛂🛃+++
The Amiga punched up! 3 years after its release and 7 years after the PC's. (With the PC at 3 times the price.) In 1988, the Amiga actually started getting a few *new* games, written for it. Those games and those from 1989 on show better what the Amiga could do; the major 8-bits actually already got good conversions rather than ports, changed to fit the 64K or less limit etc. The Amiga never really got that, except in a very few games that are cherished. <3 They got ports of Atari ST ports of 8-bit ports of the arcade. (Sounds silly, but it's what happened in most cases.) I'm not all over the porting frenzy of arcade games. Some were not so good or too hard, and that gets attached with the impressions of the port. But I always like it when I see someone understood the Amiga hardware and arcade game really well, threw out everything, and simply wrote the game for the platform. That's what happened for many C64 games e.g. Gyruss, Salamander, Commando, Green Beret, that's why they can sometimes be better than the ST->Amiga port. R-Type Spectrum is also one of those. :O
I played Test Drive all the time, karate game and ghost busters. I also wrote programs and made a weather prediction program. Back in the good Ole days!
Ну и говнище..
How can you even list Commando as just one of the games of whatever? It was The Game and deserves to be mentioned with the same amount of respect as a joint meeting of the US President, an alien envoy and Zeus.
