Eye of the beholder series I must have played for hours.
Some great games from the PC from 1991.

I loved EOB (so much that I'm actually involved in making an old-school RPG in the style of Wizardry and EOB :) ).

The games looked advanced compared to previous videos. The last of 2D before 3D kicked in.

Wirklich schöne Kindheitserinnerungen, ich war 1991 grade 14 Jahre alt und zocken war auch damals schon ein echtes Hobby von mir.

It's impressive how many first person RPG were released in 1991. That said, for me RPG on PC in the early days has always been the Ultima series, in which the first person part was in my opinion, the worst (and I'm talking about the dungeon exploration up until Ultima V, at least on PC - Ultima IV on SMS ditched the first person experience completely, resulting in a better game). IMHO first person RPG really started being great just from 1992, with the first Ultima Underworld, and then System Shock and then Daggerfall. In 1991 first person RPG where instad still with tile-based movement and 90 degree rotations, which made them really awful to play.

For me, I love the 90-degree turns RPGs. My favourite of all times is probably Wizardry 7 (released in 1992). Followed very closely by Eye of the Beholder series. I couldn't really get into early 3d RPGs until Might & Magic 6 came out.

@@retrononame Yes, Wizardry 7 and Eye of the Beholder series were probably amongst the best in that genre :)

I've never seen Elite Plus running on era-appropriate hardware, but that seems way too fast to me. Your shields shouldn't recharge that quickly. I tried running it in DOSBox a couple times, but I could never seem to find a good setting. If I set the cycles high enough that the ship movements are smooth, everything runs way too fast. The enemy ships zip around so quickly that I have no hope of hitting them. If I turn the cycles down so that the game is more playable, then the ship movement gets almost as sluggish as the 8-bit versions. I can't find a setting where the 3D is fluid, but without making the game too fast.
However, in my opinion, it has one fatal flaw: They took out all the keyboard controls! I can understand if they wanted to make it seem more modern, but why the hell would they remove the keyboard equivalents and FORCE you to use a mouse? It makes the game much more cumbersome to play, and in my opinion, it ruins it.
