  • Hello and welcome to the seventh episode of evolution of MS-DOS gaming.
    We are in the year of 1988 now.
    EGA graphics was a standard by 1988 and some of the games started using Adlib, or Roland sound capabilities instead of just 1 channel PC speaker.
    And there were a lot of good games released in 1988 for MS-DOS. Games like Bubble Bobble, Operation Wolf, Police Quest 2, Zak McKracken, Might & Magic 2... and lots more.
    So many more in fact, that this is the first episode we are covering more than 20 games that were released for MS-DOS during the year.
    Have fun and let us know in the comments if you think of any games we might have missed.

    Good old Wizardry... Sticking with the wireframes when everyone else has EGA or even VGA graphics.

      @@Avrelivs_Gold The super-crude flight simulators of the day got me to take flying lessons, and I got my license. Some of the learning from the software really helped learn the real thing.

    Brings back memories of playing Death Track. And Double Dragon looks just as janky as I remember it to be.

    Golden age of Sierra On-Line, MicroProse, CodeMasters, Accolade, SSI and other, now non-existent, game studios!

    With the exception of Bubble Bobble, I'd rather play the C64 and Amiga versions of the games that were available for those systems, just to have better sound.

    Graphics generally inferior to amiga, but everything runs smoother. Is that your emulation settings or an original PC (nb great vid as ever)

      I use DosBOX emulator to record the gameplay.

    • @retrononame
      @retrononame  10 месяцев назад

      Sem. Ampak Prehistorik 2 je izšel šele v začetku 90-ih (91 ali morda 92 - ne vem na pamet), tako da tukaj še ni prišel na vrsto (ta video predstavlja zgolj igre iz leta 1988).

      Ah, zakaj neki bi bil hud? Saj samo debato mečemo :)
      Trenutno ne igram kaj dosti, ker sodelujem pri enem retro igričarskem projektu. Samo ne morem še kaj več povedat. Čez kak mesec pa kaj več o tem :)
      Tako da trenutno bolj igram tiste zadeve kar pač rabim za delat te video posnetke (naslednji je spet Spectrum vs. Amstrad recimo).

      Me too. GPC was one of my favourites in 1991 when I got my first PC. Even though VGA was basically standard by then and GPC uses only 16 color EGA, the gameplay was great and I drove around circuits for countless hours back then.
