So many people focus on fermented foods for gut issues when a lot of us that have gut issues can’t tolerate fermented foods because of the histamines.. 🤔

If your gut is in dysbiosis, it's best to introduce fermented foods very slowly. They can eventually be so much of what helps heal your gut.

Ritual Zero Proof is an amazing alcohol-free products. My fave is the « rum » and it makes amazing mocktails. I am a big wine lover but stopped drinking 6 months ago due to acute bronchitis. It’s been such a game changer for me and I feel like a million bucks now that I don’t drink anymore. I very occasionally miss my wine but always conclude that it’s not worth it.

How many nutrition hours did you receive during your medical degree? Was it one or three hours? Curious what your dietetic credentials are? Where you took your nutrition degree and did your dietetic internship? Unless you are specifically trained in this area, please stay in your lane. Just as dietitians don’t write medical prescriptions for psychiatric conditions, doctors need to respect those who are specifically trained in this area. They need to stop talking about things like nutrition and diet unless they have received a degree and specialized training. Anyone can call themselves an expert in nutrition. The proof is in the credentials. Now let’s see yours.

I can see how Ketamine would have been helpful for someone who is suffering greatly from immense pain, and is transitioning to the other side in the war, or currently as a one time sort of thing, because again the pain is immense and they are on there way...when I hear people say they are on ketamine therapy my stomach knots...I actually feel sick to my stomach...it can be a very slippery slope and can actually be highly addictive. It is quite dangerous potentially when one loses the ability to perceive oneself in a body or as a body and any movement can be a great task, it completely alters the perception of reality, it could possibly make someone go insane.. In short I would say ketamine is f***cked. But that's been my experience...it is dangerous grounds to suggest it or to recommend it to people who have mental health issues..and many that go on the therapy do. I do feel it is playing with fire. It was one of my d.o.c's...and I think there's other ways to peace, ways that sustain, such as meditation, nature, breath work, nutrition, and the list goes on and on, of the things things that are not a mind altering substance such as ketamine. Might as well have cocaine Therapy!! Go all the way.. that's how I feel about that. I appreciate your work, your perspective...and I simply feel differently about it. It's a big red flag, unless in extreme situations, it could be an option.

There are very few psychiatrists putting this information into practice - but I am doing my best to motivate nurses to be aware of this and to assess nutrition as part of a psychiatric assessment (and to make appropriate recommendations). Patients want to get better and many patients are very willing to make changes to their diet to improve their mental well-being. I first heard Felice Jacka present her SMILES trial results at the ACNEM conference in 2017 and nutritional and lifestyle approach to psychiatry has been my passion ever since. I've presented to a number of psychiatrists, psyc nurses and run a couple of courses on this topic. The fact that nutrition isn't being addressed in mainstream psychiatry is really doing a disservice to all people struggling with mental health. (And any nurses and doctors watching this - you are not stepping outside of your scope of practice by discussing this with your patients!)
