So true, Laurent !!! I wish I could grow them outdoors mounted on trees but unfortunately my winter temperatures are warm enough. The only orchids I can grow mounted on trees are Dendrobium nobile and I have a few. I also grow some Cymbidium planted on the ground. Thank you for your comment, much appreciated ❤️💕💕

@@rickl.orchids Hi Rick, Thank you so.much for commenting, much appreciated ❤️ I realized that inert medias are much easier for me especially in winter, no worries about roots getting wet for too long. Also no concerns about getting acidic. The downside is that I have to water more frequently during summer. I cannot count on Rain as here it hardly ever rains during summer. Hi Joe, thank you so much for watching and commenting and for your suggestion. I forgot to mention in this video that humidifier is useless for me. The thing is, we like to keep the door that connects the lounge with the patio outdoors. We keep it opened all year long during the day, not only because of the cat and dog but also for me and my husband. The patio is like an extension of the house and we have gotten so used to have the door opened that we almost feel almost claustrophobic if we have to close it. Quanto á Myrmecophila thompsoniana, a minha foi uma troca que fiz com a Nina de Ninja_orchids há já alguns anos. Mas sei que ela comprou de Thai Orchids and more. Acho que é na Tailandia. Mas ela comprou em 2018 quando ainda era possivel importar sem as restrições que existem hoje. Se ainda não tentou, veja nas nurseries da Alemanha. Eu já dei uma olhadela na Akerne orchids na Belgica pois gosto muito deles mas não têm neste momento. Boa sorte, beijinhos e votos de uma otima semana 🥰😍💖

Phalaenopsis used to be hard to grow for me, too before I transitioned to water culture. I am not happy having to go back to pots. But I am hopeful they will love the pumice. These days, most of my orchids are growing in inert medium. More watering, yes, you are right. And I cannot count on summer rain as it does not happen. But at least I do not have to worry about acidity in the pots. Love you too, have a great start to the week dear Annie 💖😍🥰

Hi Tom, thanks for the suggestion. I have a dehumidifier but I hardly use it because it's no use. What I mean is, the door that leads to the patio is always open during the day, regardless of the time of year. It's not only because of the pets, dog and cat. We, my husband and I, also like to have it open. We think of the patio as an extension of our lounge...

Hi dear Lyn, thank you dearly for such a lovely comment. I love my epiphytic cacti and I have to admit that they give me a lot back and are not as fussy as most orchids 🤣 The oxypetalum and the hondurensis are particularly rewarding as they have been opening blooms for quite a while now and many more to open. I really don't understand why the other two species never bloomed. Not to mention the anguliger which I forgot to add to the video. But I am glad that at least the other two are making me happy already. Thanks for confirming the id of Cereus jamacaru. Its flowers are also so beautiful and I was amazed how much it grew late winter. Have a wonderful rest of the week and thank you again for your loively support 🥰😍

Thank you so much dear friend. I am still amazed how I did not broke any bone. Even the glasses did not suffer. My face turned black especially around eyes but it's all gone now. The nose is still sore but getting better. Íris is a very naughty girl so much different from the other german shepherds we had before. To be honest I do not use any fertilizer on them but some growers specialized in cacti like Desert plants of Avalon or Cactus caffeine channels say that using tomato feed on them makes them bloom better. Olá amiga Josefina, eu é que agradeço. Eu adoro todas as minhas plantas mas já não tenho estaleca para tanta planta 🤣 e tenho vindo a reduzir algumas e ficando com a minhas favoritas. Os catos epifitos são maravilhosos e para dizer a verdade dão muitíssimo menos trabalho que as orquídeas e até mais flores embora sejam plantas completamente diferentes. As orquídeas são muito desafiantes. A Iris já anda a comer melhor mas infelizmente ainda não perdeu o habito de andar de volta das minhas plantas. @@josefinahenriques Tive muita sorte, mesmo assim. Os óculos são de metal e magoaram muito o nariz mas não partiram e as lentes ficaram só com um risquinho. Foram muito caras mas agora acho que valeram o investimento. Também não parti nenhum osso mas as cartilagens dentro do nariz ainda doem. Sangrei muito e a cara ficou toda negra, especialmente perto dos olhos. Podia ter sido muito grave mas tive muita sorte 🙏😃

Hi Tina, thank you so much for commenting !!! Please do not lose hope, your oxypetalum will bloom when it is ready. I grew mine from seed and it took many years to grow to blooming size. At first I was growing it shaded but it only started to bloom when I decided to bring it to a much higher light location aka direct sun. It got a bit stressed and some of the leave tips got crested but the light stress made it start to bloom. Yours is either still a young plant or it needs more light. In my climate mine is in full sun because although my sun is hot, my temperatures in summer are cool. On exceptional heat waves I cover it with a sheer curtain at midday. So, if you live in a climate with hot summers, give it as much direct sun as you can, however protected during the hottest hours of the day. Good luck 🥰😍

Hi Matt, thank you very much. I am so happy with my 4 purpurata blooms especially because I was not expecting so much of her this year. She had two pseudobulbs but one of them stopped growing during winter which never happened to me. The thing is, she did not get enough light, winter was not cold but it was cloudy on most days and she missed the sun through the window which she depended on. The walkeriana is looking nice now, I love those chubby pseudobulbs, they are so cute !!! About your question, I cannot use the pool house for orchids or any other plant because temperatures get too cold at night during winter and during the day, the moment the sun comes out temperatures get too high. The roof is different from greenhouses, it is made of a sort of hives that are meant to intensify temperatures and also it increases light. Years ago I lost one of my favourites, an Asconcentrum miniata with several fans because I left it at the entrance of pool house on a cloudy cool May day and I went away for the day. It was on a set of shelves but not on top, it was on the second shelf and the top shelf was covered with a dark blue towel to protect the orchid from the light. But still, the plant got cooked because during the day the sun came out and it got too hot. The shelves were plain with only a few holes on them and in spite of being covered by the thick dark towel, those holes got inprinted/burned on the plant leaves. I am glad it was the only plant on the set of shelves 😬

Hi Marc 👋 The pool house is no good for orchids. Temperatures go from cold to very hot in a matter of minutes, all depending on more sun or more clouds. The light is also super intense. The roof is made to increase light and heat 🤔

Hi dear Nina, good morning and thank you for your kind words. I am very pleased with my purpurata, I reallwas not expecting 4 blooms. She had 2 pseudobubs, one grew with a sheath before the winter but the second one stopped growing and no sheath which got me worried. Spring sun made the miracle. For years I have been talking about leaving it outdoors thru winter but I never did, you were wiser than me with yours. So, this coming winter she stays out, scouts honor 🤣 Everything was ok in the past when winters were sunny. Speaking of sun, it has been raining for the past 3 days which is most unusual this time of the year. 100% humidity too. I am already concerned about my Oncidium. I was hoping for some sun today but when I woke up this morning it was still pouring. Which reminds me, I was watching the euro 24 football game last night in Germany. I don't remember which city but the rain was so heavy that the game had to be suspended. The rain was coming down from leaks on the roof over the benches like waterfalls 😬 Hope you and the ´chids are enjoying some sun on this sunday 😘🥰😍
