Making rustic wooden chest from live edge slabs

I strongly believe that if you are doing a woodworking project with live edge wood, stick to the style and avoid straight lines unless it's absolutely necessary.

Bird feeder by Uudopuu

#woodwork, #DIY,#bird feeder, In such a bird feeder, there is very little chance that the bird's droppings will come into contact with the food. This is important for bird health. Sellises linnusöögimajas on vähe võimalust et lindude väljaheited söögiga kokku puutuvad. Lindude tervise seisukohast on see oluline.

That was a Great Job. I love that style of furniture. Jim's wood shop.
Hi Jim. Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like my style. I am from Estonia. I tried googling Jim's wood shop, there are several, which one is yours, what style is your woodwork?
I just subscribed to your channel . I like the way you make your projects. Keep up the good work. I live in the USA. Where do you live. Jim's wood shop.
Super Job .I really like your shop swing. They turned really cool looking.😀😀.
Man ! That's a awesome table!
It takes a beast of a man to brave the cold and heat to do they're craft!
I usually agree with you, but not on this one. Cold and hot are normal in my mind. Also normality is good and bad. Without them, a person would be just a lump of jelly. It's just that ... bad is not to harm a person, but to teach him.
@@udoaas2466 I know you are right. Perhaps that was what I was trying to convey in a crude manner. This struggle is in my opinion what makes a man. Physically, mentally and emotionally. Life was never meant to be easy. I know for me this is what has forced me to grow. I think we all have a choice in most things. We can muster all that is in us or give up and lay down and die. I really appreciate you for teaching me and I can tell you have a lot of spiritual insights... could also be a little bit of language and cultural differences... but I think I understand.
@@donscottvansandt4139 I think I understand what you mean now. Yes, there is a linguistic and cultural difference. Although the deeper one goes into spiritual meanings, the more people are alike, even people from very different traditions. And it is all the more difficult to make your thoughts understandable, or to understand, with the help of words, especially through written words. But I think I understood what you meant now. That going through difficulties makes us stronger people.
Really like how you have your shop setup. And I also like how you show your continuation... to me it's a very important part of creation. Especially when frustrated... I walk away get a cup of tea or coffee and relax and think...
very familiar
Дуже приємно спостерігати на вашу роботу та результат! Надихаєте, теж хочу спробувати зробити. Ніколи не думав, що з кривих палок можна створити таке привабливе крісло.
На мою думку, криві роблять кращий стілець.
Excellent build, Sir. The dowels you hammer into the tenon braces... are they larger diameter than the holes you drill?
Thanks BigBrownCar. Yes, the holes are 8mm. and dowels 12 mm. The dowels are cylindrical and there is no wedge effect, but in soft wood the difference in sizes still creates pressure that prevents it from loosening.
@udoaas2466 thank you for replying. I very much enjoy your build style, and your various homemade tools and jigs. All very clever. You remind me of my late father's side of my family, who are Latvian. As a child, my father came to the U.S. with his mother and so many other Latvians as refugees during WW2. Many stayed and built their new lives here, including my father. And as I grew up, I remember observing the Latvian men using their minds and hands to create wonderful things like homes and furniture. My father actually even built the log home in which I grew up. And the Latvian women's cooking is a craft by itself! I realize you are Estonian, and I don't mean to compare you to Latvian. I only see a very close resemblance and I enjoy many memories through your work. Thank you, and I hope you continue sharing your truly wonderful craftsmanship.
@@BigBrownCar Hello. You are right that Latvia and Estonia have a lot in common. Both are small countries located between two opposing world orders. This is probably the reason for the peculiarities compared to the big countries. Will our special features remain? I would like to hope that they will stay.
You are a true craftsman. I love the way you make things. I am pretty new at making rustic things. But find great pleasure in it . I love the way it seems to have its own mind and kind of tells me what it wants to be...
I would add that this work has also been quite a pain. I have searched for many solutions to the problems and some of the searches have been quite arduous. Because it has also been my source of livelihood, I have been in a lot of trouble so many times. Hence the balance. There has been both pleasure and pain, but the pleasure side has always dominated. I find it must be so. But now things are different for me, it's not my livelihood anymore, I'm retired now. There is less work, but more things to do. Thanks for all your comments. It's nice to know that someone cares about the things you do. I completely agree with you that this work has its own mind and it says what it wants to be. Nice to do and also teaches to listen and see.
Unbelievable! Very nice indeed.
Beautiful! Awesome craftsmanship... love to watch you work while I'm working... give me inspiration...
My father was viking blood and my mom native American. What a combo lol I love both kinds of music. Great video I'm learning...

Very nice work Udo, beautiful chest and the music was nice too. This is a true one man show.❤
Yes, it really does. Greetings.
Hi Udo, Love your work and all your ingenious custom tools: clamps, the perfectly leveled bench, your round tenon taper cutting setup, your leg leveling saw set up and so much more. Hope you are well and your knowledge is passed to an apprentice. Cheers 🍻
Thank you, you have watched and commented on my videos very thoroughly. And you're absolutely right, one of the reasons I make videos is to pass on what I've learned. Hopefully.
Very nice. Thank you for sharing your skill with the world.

what are those hoods you wear called?
I don't know exactly, I bought it at a workwear store. It is probably intended as a hood for the base of a welding mask. But it also works well against dust and perspiration associated with the mask.

Nice
I Love Watching These Videos!!!! Such Talent and Charm!!!!
Hello Udo, nice work as always. Great points you made about critical considerations when evaluating a chair, the older I get how long I can sit says a lot about that chair. You a Seminoles fan?
I am from another continent, and the word Seminoles was not familiar to me. I had to google it. I mean, when people look for music from within, the music is similar. Because human beings are also quite similar inside, no matter what continent they live on. Udo
@@udoaas2466 You are absolutely correct, the music you play sounds very much like the native people of America. I live about 4 hour drive from the Seminoles campus.
Udo, your work is beautiful and videos entertaining.
When next video?
Good question. I would also like to, but you see, there is no time.
What kind of oil /Staind bath do you use, brilliant Time saver
Yes, the oil bath is a real time saver. I use "Teak Oil" in the bath, for the second coat I use "Danish Oil" which I apply with a cloth.
Great video, how can one get one of those cutting boards?
Hi Mark. Of course you can come to my Liivamäe village to buy it if you live nearby. But I suspect that you don't live, otherwise you would have written in Estonian. Maybe you live on another continent, the shipping costs may exceed the cost of the cutting board. So, I don't know what we're going to do about it.
@@udoaas2466 I live in the USA and agree shipping would be cost prohibitive. I really enjoy your videos and your work is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Cool, the chair, video and music are all cool. Good job.
The bench is beautiful, I don’t know about those four guys though. I really enjoy watching your videos and your work is beautiful.

Hello udo. We love watching your videos, it is a shame you have not uploaded for a while as your videos are fantastic. Wishing all the very best from SCOTLAND 🏴
Well, I also thought that when I retire, I will have more time to make videos. But it's not like that at all. Sorry.
@@udoaas2466 ahhh that is a shame. You have inspired myself to be creative in natural wood working and for that sir I thank you very much. You are a true gentleman.
@@udoaas2466 hello again. Can I ask what type of oil you are using to seal the wood 🏴
@@thegreatoutdoors3990 Hello It's nice that you give feedback that what I did works for you. Yeh. Yes, there is a wide selection of oils to use. In my work, I have tried to find the best price-quality ratio. There are also better oils, but their prices are also quite high. So my choice is: as the first or impregnation oil, what I do in the bath, I use "Teak Oil". It is quite a liquid oil, fills all the cracks and soaks in well. I use "Danish Oil" as the second oil. It's a thicker oil and you can't apply it in the bath, so I do it with a cloth. Greetings to Scotland from Estonia.
Мастер просто класс ♥️♥️♥️
