Pyramids in Rome? Gaius Cestius Pyramid Revealed
Ancient Egypt in Rome part 3. The Romans were total Egyptophiles. Here is the pyramid of Gaius Cestius built in 12 BCE - in Rome, not Egypt. The Aurelian wall dating to a few hundred years later was built right around it. Back in the early 1800s, the romantic poets flocked here to admire it and the non-Catholic and the fields of wildflowers- of which they wrote poetically! Watch the video to learn about Gaius Cestius and his pyramid.

Egypt in Rome part four: the obelisk of Apries in the Piazza della Minerva. This wonderful pink granite obelisk was discovered during the 17th century buried in the nearby ruins of an ancient Roman Temple to Isis and Serapis! The Romans sure did love their Egyptian antiquities - and the Egyptian gods too! This is the only obelisk i know on the back of a pachyderm! #ancientegyptalive #egyptinrom...

Barry Kemp speaks about Amarna - from 2010
Просмотров 208Месяц назад
In August 2010 in the heat of Cairo, Barry Kemp agreed to an interview with me - an Egyptophile but not yet an Egyptologist. He met me in Tahrir square and we filmed with a simple Sony camera in his office. This little interview (one of the few captured with this great man) in its small way inspired me on my path to future studies. He is indeed a scholar, a great archaeologist and a generous me...

Are Jordan and Egypt Safe? Our travelers say yes - from Mount Nebo!
Просмотров 666 месяцев назад
We just returned from an amazing Egypt and Jordan trip. Here our travelers speak about how they felt traveling during these uncertain times as we rested on historic Mount Nebo overlooking the promised land (where it is said Moses died) (I did mean in the video to say where he died - not where he was born - which may have been in Egypt :-)
Inside the burial chamber of the Bent Pyramid

A Not-to-be-missed, off-the-beaten-path experience is to come to Dashur, west of Cairo and visit the Bent and Red pyramids of King Snefru. It is a challenging climb - but our travellers - all of a certain age - managed it masterfully - and enjoyed the spookiness of the burial chamber. This pyramid pre-dates the Great Pyramid by 25-50 years (built by Khufu's dad!)

These divine temples followed Egyptian religious p...

    I would recommend people avoid Egypt. It’s corrupt and a nightmare for a foriegner, seriously - some very sinister things have happened to friends. From corrupt police officers, to blackmail, to theft… to physical harrassment. I love Ancient Egypt but this ugly museum and it’s repressive and corrupt society are not worth taking a risk on.

    Anything to do with Ancient Egypt at Egypt's Museums are naturally suspect because the time line they use does not reflect the true timeline of history. Remember Ancient Egyptian contributed the pyramids and associated structures to an older people who had left them as a legacy of their own civilization.

    • @AncientEgyptAlive
      @AncientEgyptAlive 3 месяца назад

      Interesting comment Ian... Are you questioning the dates museums use in their displays? Yes, it is true that especially in the old Kingdom timelines may be out as much as 100- 150 years. 50 years in the New Kingdom. Some scholars reference low and high chronologies for dating. Still there is no disputing that the legacy of Ancient Egypt is magnificent when it comes to art, architecture, great works - even writings!

      All depends on what material the statue was carved from. If you want, or need, to know what colour skin he had maybe DNA could settle your mind.
