    I settled in the high bonefields because the terrain contains natural chokepoints that can be walled off easily without having to build the wall around the whole settlement. this also allows for neat base design ideas like putting the main buildings at higher altitude while the plebeians slave away in sweatshops below. When first setting up the base, wildlife was a bit of a problem and I had to retreat to Catun a few times to lick my wounds. at one point during such retreats an elder beak thing blocked the way to catun and while I managed to kill it, Griffin lost an arm and had to get a prosthetic.

    I usually pair hephaestus with mjolnirs. That seems to be pretty okay. If there's like 3 large slots, it would be 2 mjolnirs with 1 hephaestus and a prayer that your flux sustains your sustained fire before it gives out. However, I don't play vanilla Starsector anymore so I tend to not interact with either the Mjolnir or the Hephaestus simply because the markets tend to get filled by random other large weapons.

    I always hate the Ion Beam, because it is not piercing if you dont inflict hard flux, so it has no synergy with other beam setups, on paragon where you also have kinetic mount it can kinda work, but especialy if you combo it with tactical lasers and gravitons alone it only wastes Flux and achives nothing, especialy becouse even though gravition is very flux efficient, its overall dmg is very low, so even with 5 graviton beams on 1 traget for the max shield dmg increas most capitals can still just passive went you. So you need to either have a fleet of diffrent ship types, (wich i dont like because of roleplay reasons and skilling flexibilety, if i use a diffent ship my skillpoints shoud not go down the drain) or you need 2 of your ships to overload 1 of the enemy. All in all i think gravitons use is only as light support, slowing enemy ships, and even slowing phase ships while they are phased. While Ion Beam is a flexible tec choise that i put on if i have to fight a invicus. IF it woud work with higher soft flux level's as well it woud be at least a bit better in my arrogant opinion. xD But i dont wanna only criticize the rest of the Vidoe is pretty good. :)

    "i have a hard time imagining why on earth id be using an arbalest" They are cheap in every sense of the word. You can buy them everywhere, they dont cost much OP, and they dont cost much flux. It's the budget option. Are they part of optimized builds/fleets? Not really, but in the early and mid game before you can get the right ships or the right weapons they fill medium slots well, and are "good enough".

    This tier list is far less heretical than the missile list, or perhaps i am merely not as emotionally invested. You seem to overvalue pressure weapons and undervalue strike damage. And it seems that you favor cruiser+ size ships since you appreciate the ion damage from the beam, but discount the ion cannon. Where I disagree; -you did the autolance dirty. It's an energy weapon with fragmentation damage. That's finishing damage. A hit-scan weapon that just waits for shields and armor to be down, and the weapon itself is incredibly flux cheap. And like you said, it melts fighters. Energy weapon kinetic damage is special, as is fragmentation. -You overvalue the ion and graviton beam. They fall off hard against high tech targets or aggressive brawlers that can close the gap quickly. Perhaps you haven't been overrun by filthy luddites yet, but their hordes of s.o. ships will laugh at your weak beams. -Ion cannon is great on small ships, and is wonderful when mixed with ir pulses. a scarab with 4 ir and 2 ion cannons will melt and incapacitate many ships. -placing autopulse with tac laser and LR PD laser and mining blaster is WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG and i won't explain why. -putting paladin in b tier when you haven't used it is silly. it is okay, but it constantly runs out of charges.

    Okay. I guess i will forgive your HERETICAL views on the missile rankings, since you give respect to shepherds. They are the early game utility GOAT. You can have up to 30 ships in your fleet without penalty, so stack up those little guys to get those sweet salvage and survey bonuses.

    I think it's a good spot, but maybe not your first base. I tried setting something up next to the fishing village & they never stopped coming. I fought off 7 raid parties with only 2 structures put up, then I gave up as soon as prayer day happened, not dealing with Okran's schnucks as well. I'll try again deeper in when I have some character's who can tanks some hits.

    Legion is a battlecarrier - it should be on the frontline. Keeping it at the back is a waste of its armour and deployment cost - especially that it does not have a good ability to win flux duel with other ships - you ideally want to burst down your opponent. There is a hilarious, if a bit counter intuitive way to use it. Slap a Defensive Targeting Array onto it and fill it to the brim with Dagger Bombers. Now, you may think this is insane, because Targeting Array won't benefit bomber's missiles. BUT hear me out. It tethers the bombers to the carrier - they never leave your own PD's defensive bubble, and therefore they have a very short trip back. If you slap mid-range weapons onto your Legion and force it to close distance with the enemies, you will have a persistent wall of never-ending Atropos torpedoes. Legion has enough hull and armour to tank, and bombers act as your primary DPS, also mitigating Legion's flux issues.

    @KY-qy3kn 7 дней назад

    Have not played Starsector in a while but there's a bit I don't agree with in this tier list. HMG is a SO weapon like the assault chaingun with 450 range, you mentioned it about the chainguns but not the HMG and are using it as a PD gun, although dual chainguns is probably better than 1 each of HMG and chaingun. Also with the way armor works, larger damage per hit is at a premium for explosive weapons over DPS spread over multiple shots as you can strip away armor much better with high damage. This is why my design philosophy was to fit smaller slots with kinetic weapons, and larger slots with the explosives to finish enemies with higher damage per shots (excluding PD). For large slots, devastator is not a viable weapon for capital ship fights unless you're point blank, and that generally doesn't happen in a capital ship fight. It's like C or D tier in my books. Your remaining options for explosive damage in the large slot are HAG and hellbore. Hellbore is specialized for fighting large ships (heavy cruisers and above) and I'd put it in at least B tier, while HAG is more generalist and better for fighting smaller ships (cruisers and below) and is more or less the default option, it should also be at least B tier. You complain about their 900 range being too high, but that is literally the best number for pairing with S-tier medium slot kinetic damage HVDs at 1000 range for stand-off fights. I think there's also a new mod ballistic range finder that increases the small slot ranges (standard range of 700) to 900 matching the large slots as well, allowing you to throw tons of kinetic DPS in the form of small railguns or light needlers into a standoff capital fight and you'll almost always have a lot of small slots positioned ever so slightly ahead of your large ballistic slots on ships, meaning they hit first. You might prefer missiles for finishing enemies instead of using mounted guns which is why you rate both the hellbore and HAG so low. I prefer using missiles to pressure and overload enemies quickly allowing my guns to finish off enemies. The AI also prefers to use missiles to win flux wars instead of finishing enemies (unless that's been changed?). Gauss has its 1200 range, but 1.71 flux cost. It's a meme weapon that should be in D tier. I tried to make them work as a long range support weapon but they're just too flux inefficient to be useful. You'd need a dedicated ship with good flux stats to support it, large ballistic slots which aren't that common except on large ships, and then those ships can mount like 2 in a viable long range firing arc while costing too much deployment points to field. The one I tried was the pirate Atlas. It's so much more efficient just to field more cheaper smaller ships running HVD. I think I may tried it with the mudskipper Mk2 as well but the flux stats were too bad to be useful, firing a single volley then sitting around venting for a minute to recharge their flux. The railgun isn't competing with HVD or other precision weapons, it's competing with light needler and light auto-cannon for a 700 range small slot kinetic weapon. What sets it apart from the other options is the highest DPS among them, and being more consistent than the light needler's 5 second refire delay and more accurate too. It is the default general usage equipment for small ballistic slots and should be at least B tier if not higher.

    My beloved AMBie is only in B tier?!? My player-piloted, quad-AMB Afflictor is so much fun to fly and absolutely wrecks entire fleets. I have to force myself to not use it every single playthrough. 🤣 Also I'm not sure there's a better late game frigate option than a full squad of Omens with one AMB and a Reaper with Missile Autoloader. I've gained a new appreciation for the IR Autolance when testing them out on the Executor. That ship has such a huge flux dissipation problem that the IR Autolance works perfectly to keep flux usage down until it really needs it. I use 2x HILs and 4x IR Autolances to just melt everything that drops shields (and 2x Grav Beams + Squall to force that to happen). Mixing and matching the 1000 range energy weapons to make pretty light shows is really quite fun! I agree about the Mining Blaster! I ignored it for so long because I lumped it in with the completely worthless Mining Laser (that is D tier to me...not even worth the 1 OP 😂), but the blaster is really a solid option for a hit-and-run harasser like a Wolf. Although I disagree on some points, I love stuff like this and the discussion it generates. Fun video!

    I would add the caveat that Hydras become opressive vs basically anything if you have 4 or more of them fire at one ship; almost impossible to defend against and the damage adds up very quickly to the point even capitals die decently quickly. On it's own or in smaller numbers it's pretty meh though.

    Only the biggest of brained crazy people put antimatter blasters on capital ships.

      I tried it one time and realized no one in their right mind gets within 400 range of a capital ship 😅

    I actually really like the Ion cannon, but that's because I like to have a phase ship as my flag ship. Which is basically the exact niche it is for. It really lets you punish those capital ships with lots of forward facing firepower and shields as knocking out the engines and making them lose the ability to choose where they're facing is very often a death sentence for them. And it also helps keeps smaller ships from being able to shoot back at me while I'm tearing them apart. Which is important for phase ships as chip damage can really stack up on them in larger flights.

      I've noticed that damaged ships will sometimes retreat. Practically speaking, that's better than a kill because the AI has to wait for the ship to leave before it can deploy another one. Also, getting EMP damage on remnant ships seems to be one of the more reliable counters because right out of the gate they have WAY more firepower and mobility. If they lose control of their weapons though, they're just a floating brick for a few seconds.

      ion cannons are great. they are good to mix with ir pulse lasers on ships that like those. a scarab with a mix of those will tear it up.
