    I built a city in the centre of Shun with my first character. I then built two castles guarding the easier entrances to Shun and allied with the Shek. Shun is so chill, all the resources you could ever want and no strong raiders nearby. Shun is the promised land where all of the rejects in Kenshi can live and prosper.

    This is wonderfully timed! I was just scouting out Shun the other day and thought: "Why the hell have no factions settled here since the Second Empire?"

    • @thechosenone8288
      @thechosenone8288 7 месяцев назад +25

      Probably because of logistics, UC is too large and the cities that are in that zone are already "hard" to maintain by themselves (I think there's one that's mostly ruins there), the shek just doesn't have the human resources to make even a small town nor the handwork to do so, and the holy nation needs to destroy the shek to even reach there, and even then, I don't think they're too interested in a land so far they're holy lands

    • @thechosenone8288
      @thechosenone8288 7 месяцев назад

      There's also no small faction that could get interested enough to reach there, it's just too far apart from them and the danger of the travel is too high

      @@thechosenone8288I disagree with that. The Tech Hunters are already managing World’s End and Black Scratch, and considering that there’s tons of ancient tech in Shun to the point that you can already meet the only hostile tech Hunter spawns in Kenshi there, it’s strange why they never thought about building a permanent settlement.

    I've actually got a base in Shun! Settled on the coast and didn't bother building any walls, since the occasional Gorillo or Skin Spider attack is a good way for your guards to passively build up toughness (It builds character!) It's so far away from any major settlements that nobody comes to raid your base, unless you kill a big name or something. Otherwise it's a fantastic place to train up legendary smiths, only downside is it's a bit of a jog to just about anywhere but the southern empire. Overall great place if you have social anxiety and hate when the neighbors visit!

  • @foxdavion6865

    I've been in Shun for a couple of weeks now in game. No one has attacked me apart from the occasional aggressive gorillo. So far the Band of Bones has left me alone as well; I assume by the time they do start showing interest, I'd be well established with base defences up. Got a couple of Cactus and Wheat farms up and living off Dustwiches.

    On the topic of eyegore assaults,
    The only time I ever saw an antislavery actually in uc territory he attacked a slave camp and managed to get a lucky kill on the noble.
    At the time I was allied with the slave traders, the uc and the traders guild.
    Eyegore would regularly show up at my base say his classic lines like "ARGH!" and "KILL!" and then I'd pick him up, get a free meitou weapon, he'd leave then like 3 days later he would come back re armed with a meitou sabre that I would take at literally 0 risk to myself

    Definitely a remote region, I'd probably be more amicable to set up there IF I didn't have the occasional problem of having people get stuck while running long distances for trade runs.
    One thing of note, you can buy a house in the way station in the hook which can act as an initial starting point before getting the actual base going. I usually use these kind of places to set up beds and supply storage to operate out of whenever I want to do more thorough work in the area.
    While working on that waystation house I contemplated Shun as a base location. It definitely feels like the best spot to do a "peaceful" base run.
    Of course, mods can add some VERY big challenges to the region along with custom settlements/factions.

    Just yesterday I was talking with my friends about the possibility of building a city in Shun for members of the faction in my current playthrough to move to when they want to settle down if they don't like acid rain I want to live somewhere wholely owned by their people.
    Still gonna fortify the place(s) though since even if it doesn't happen in the course of the playthrough, these people have traded with and work jobs within the shit Kingdom long enough to know that conflict with them, even if it doesn't last very long, is a matter of when not if.
    That said one of the reasons I wanted to build and shun is how beautiful it is.
    So trying to come up with a method of fortification where people still have fantastic views from where they live and work it's going to be a fun challenge.

    If you start in the Hook as the Freedom Seekers (best start, you're right in the middle of UC territory, no one will attack you as you travel, also the Mercenary Guild has outposts everywhere in the Hook), I suggest you spend that 4000 starting cats on 12x cactus and 5 books to acquire cactus farming, baking, cooking and then head to Shun, if the waystation doesn't have 12 cactus and only 11, buy the 11 cactus and head to Drifter's Last and one more, pick up five books if you haven't already and a sleeping bag, the remaining cats spend on building materials, then head to Shun. The only group you *really* should be concerned with is Band of Bones, they will not be a threat to you early if you don't upset them or are 0 or higher rep and their patrols are not hostile 70% of the time before their first raid and only then become hostile if you refuse to give them tribute. No one else will bother you there, even the United Cities (the southern UC are weak and lack the logistics to tax outside their immediate territory). But, it also means you can easily survive there on your own with just your starting set up living there on nasty Dustwiches.
    The first thing you want to do when you can afford it after acquiring the aforementioned, is to acquire 10 books through trading copper or with the remaining cats and as much steel plates as you can carry. The reason you want this is so you can reach tech 2 and research mounted crossbows. These will help you deal with the Band of Bones raids; Consequently, early on the Storm house provides better door armour than the tech 1 gatehouse and you can mount crossbows on the stormhouse. Build the Stormhouse at max height also forces enemies to channel up to the door two at a time up a narrow stairway, so it is even harder for them to break down the door, all while being rained down on by crossbows.
    Shun in my opinion is the best destination for Freedom Seeker start in the Hook due to the lack of any real threats, very close to the starting waystation, a massive unoccupied region that has been abandoned for a millennia with the only "cities" there being second empire ruins jutting out of the soil with a few buildings or just a single building still standing. The Southern UC which at this point in time is more Mercenary Guilds and Smugglers than Nobles and Peasants, are not in any position to expand into it either.
    Also, additionally and more importantly, there are ancient Libraries around the arena which spawn books once a day, you can return and re-loot the locations over and over for books. These will help you become completely self-autonomous and complete the tech 2 research required to make both chewsticks and dustwiches. Now you're set for food.

      @@paulrogersgaming Its very pretty but it is basically dead content. No cities, 1 ruin, constant sand storms, no copper, no iron, no water, only arid, no camps, only very rarely you will get cannibals or shrieking bandits walking through. Maybe beak things as well. I think its worse then deadlands IMO.
