    You know considering what you're used to make the food cube being pretty much the leftovers of everything else you cooked. It would logically make sense that this is how a food cube is made in game. Simply taking scraps and leftovers of what you have left and just making it into a cube so it lasts longer.
    Of course this also means that the taste and texture of a food cube changes between regions. So you probably shouldn't be eating a food cube from the swamp they grow the hashish. While food cubes from The shek Kingdom are most likely very meaty and utilitarian. Effectively an mre.
    Good video btw, hoping to see more.

    Bravo. When I played Kenshi, my favorite part wasn't the game itself, but the culture of the people within it. Not even the motivations of the main factions either ,but the day to day life of being in the world of Kenshi. Naturally, I took a huge interest in the food and drink of the world. Your observation matches mine, that generally people simply try to get by in Kenshi; most items are very plain, but there are a few very good morsels scattered about like gohan or the meatwrap.

      I always imagined the foodcube to be one of the very few things in Kenshi that actually do taste good. The foodcube, Gohan, meatwrap (Basically an all-meat burrito), of course bread, and rice. Maybe I'm crazy, but I fucking love rice. Yes, it's bland, but I could eat normal white rice every meal. I feel like Gohan is the simple evolution of rice being an amazing filler.
      Rice really is an all-purpose food. You can even fry leftover rice with some chopped onion, scrambled eggs, and sauteed vegetables for a very filling and somewhat nutritional meal or side. Add in properly cooked salmon (not overcooked, salmon is very easy to overcook and isn't very good like that) with either lemon zest-based seasoning or teriyaki and you have a damn good meal.

    As someone from part of the US where cactus is eaten, its generally considered something you either love or hate. I happen to love it. Cactus generally has a flavor like a slightly sweet and mildly acidic cucumber.... think a cucumber soaked in lime juice. I've never tried mashing them, but they'd likely make a soft and slightly jelly like paste as they contain a lot of slime. The chewwiness is something I love, but many people hate, and they're often boild for a long time to remove the chewiness, though this also removes the slime. I would recommend pureeing fresh nopal it into a spread if you want to try again, it will likely make a smooth emulsion without any of the chewyness you complained about. Hope this helps.

    gohan is fairly simple because… gohan in japanese literally just means “meal” or, it can also refer to a plain bowl of rice which is a base for many foods. this is why your google result didnt just show “gohan” it showed “tamago kake gohan” which directly translates to “egg break rice”… a broken egg over rice, which is what was pictured.
    this is why i think that in the world of kenshi, “gohan” is probably just a mix of whatever ingredients you may be able to find at the time + a rice base.

      In Vietnamese, it's pretty much the same thing. Cơm means cooked rice - usually white rice - but it's often extended to mean literally a whole meal as well. Paired with a period of the day, such as cơm sáng, cơm trưa, and cơm tối, you get breakfast, lunch, and dinner respectively. Mâm cơm? Literally a tray of rice, but often extended to mean a tray of various foods accompanying that rice.

    • @flanjoh
      @flanjoh Год назад +4

      @@tylerphuoc2653that's interesting, idk much about Vietnamese; but Japanese also has extensions of gohan (ご飯) which are asagohan (朝ご飯), hirugohan (昼ご飯) and bangohan (晩ご飯) meaning breakfast, lunch, and dinner respectively. Or more literally, morning meal, noon meal, and night meal. 朝 = morning, 昼 = noon, 晩 = night. its cool to see it used with proper context in a game. goes to show the attention to detail of the maniac who made Kenshi lmao.

    That food cube looks dense as hell, I would not be surprised if one of those things could legitimately feed someone for a day or three by itself.
    I’m also highly amused that the dustwich was just as horrid as the game says it is.
    Honestly, good job on putting all of these together and going to the effort of importing cactus stuff.

      I don't see what's wrong with it. They cook rice their way, other people cook rice a different way. At the end of the day, the result is the same. Cooked rice.
      I will say, from experience, when boiling rice like spaghetti it's better to first rinse the dried grains in cold water. Helps keep them from becoming as sticky.

    • @CelticAssassin
      @CelticAssassin Год назад

      @mrwilkumen You don't need a rice cooker. If you properly portion your water and rice, then you can do it in a pot on the stove.
      The ratio depends on the rice, but it's typically two parts water to one part rice. You can also usually just measure to the first knuckle of your finger. Then you want to bring the water to a boil, then drop it to a simmer, put the lid on, and let it ride like that for about 17 minutes. Take it off the heat once the water is absorbed. You can serve it immediately, or you can let it sit for another 10 minutes to let it steam and get fluffier.
