    I thought mentality affects or distributes risk. Therefore a positive mentality will ensure your players play riskier passes while a cautious one will make them play short and less riskier passes.

      @ its Not that you have to adapt to every Match by changing formation or roles but to better understand your own tactics so you can protect yourself against better opposition and use their weaknesses against them. For example Arrigo Sacchi said that he changed the line of engagement and the defensive line depending on the opponent but still adhered to his play style

    Usually I use which trap depending on the tactic style of the opponent's head coach. Outside for wing play & inside for the others. But this video does change my perception of it. I have good height from my three CBs but lower than average pace. Plus I'm using a much higher defensive line so maybe trapping inside isn't the best approach even though I have a good BWM. I'm definitely more comfortable trapping them outside in general (hoping for the opponent committing more men forward so I could hit them during the counter) & maybe try allowing crosses in. Thank you for this video & my apologies for writing a long comment on this.

    I play a 3-4-3 diamond and I always use trap outside, which seems incongruous at first. Why would I try to force the opposition to play in areas where I am weakest - on the flanks? The idea is simple - because I'm strongest centrally. They can run up and down the flanks all day if they want, but if they want to cross into the area, I have 3 big central defenders and a half back in there to defend it. Good luck.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker

    It feels like most of the OOPI should be caveated with "however in a back 3, some of this dosen't work the same, be cautious and watch closely if you try these." because from my experience if you use a 3421 and use trap inside my 2 am's sit on the touchline when setting up for an oppo goalkick, to bait a interior pass, i may need to watch the centerbacks and wingbacks more to see how they respond, and see how i can utilize these for interior pressing traps.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker День назад

      I'm glad you brought up using a back-3 since I didn't mention it in the video; you saw it a little bit I think in the second to last highlight, but it definitely changes the resting position of some of the players. great points!!

  • @piersonjamesa
    @piersonjamesa День назад

    Hooray! Glad this one came up. Very useful indeed, I feel like you should use trap inside only in systems which look for direct counterattacks or counterpressing systems to reinforce that tactic. For me trap outside feels more natural and using the sideline as an extra defender allows you to recover but is probably less useful as you noted if your looking to drive forward on the counter, but very useful to complement play for set pieces and time waste. I never was looking at the defenders for the trap location, only at the mids and forwards because thats where i hear about pressing traps from real game analysts (i.e. the wan bissaka gambit". As always your research work is becoming invaluable to my enjoyment of the game.

    I've been spending a lot of my most recent save trying to get the most out of out of possession instructions and your final thoughts are touching on my personal conclusion - to use the opponent's strength against them. Both trap instructions have merit, but for are best used according to how the opponent plays and why you're seeking to trap them there. What this boils down to is either stopping the opponent being able to play in a certain way, or allowing them to play the way they want and punishing them for it. The former for me is to lock down a game and prevent my opponent creating opportunities to score, the latter is for general play, let the opponent go where they want and try and force turnovers.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker День назад

      I love it! and the thought process. Funny enough, in an upcoming video I did this exact thing. They wanted to play a certain style, and I let them do that and then set up my defense to take advantage of it. There's less resistance too in letting them do what they want

    does it make that much of a difference if instead of trapping them outside with the team instruction you do it instead with opossition instructions? for example by tight marking the players in the center and forcing them to play with the feet closer to the line.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker День назад

      thanks for the question! :) there will be differences because the trap instruction affects the angles at which a player will press, as well as the overall positioning in your defensive shape. as far as I know, you can't change the pressing angle on an opp. instructions.

    What is your observation about opposing teams trying to avoid pressing traps? Let's say we want to win the ball in the center of the field because we have many hard working and physically strong players with good tacklings, would it make more sense to use "trap outside" because the opposing team might try to avoid our pressing traps by passing the ball to the central players which is what we want?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker День назад

      that would be a really good application! in the "trap outside" example, you saw the opponent initially try to pass it into the midfield. A bit later, we won it on the sidelines, but if they had passed it back to the midfielder, your plan of having strong midfieldrs to win it back would've worked. A sort of secondary trap

    Man, can't tell you enough about the amount of knowledge I've gathered binge watching your videos this week! Started a fresh new save just because of it, haha. I like to use the Pressing Trap instruction with all the intel we can get in the Data Hub. People don't talk enough about how important a good team of analysts can be... In there you can see the best pockets in the field to attack, the weaknesses to exploit during the match... literally everything. Like DLP says, everything in the instructions tab are situational and not set and forget so we gotta be mindful on how to utilize those.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker День назад

      thanks for the channel support!! yep, there's so much information that can be gathered, from the data hub, to scouting, to in-match. And I'm the same, I don't really use the more nuanced instructions (like pressing trap) in every single match. For example, if I'm trapping outside and blocking the midfield passing lanes, but they have a good Roaming Playmaker, he's just going to leave the midfield and overload our flanks. Everything's situational! That's what we love about FM

      I really really really wanted to say "it's a trap" in the video, but thought it was a little too on the nose 🤣🤣 so I went with the more subtle reference lol

    so I've been using a diamond midfield can I replace the DLP with a CM on support duty..... my guys got a great long shot.. I don't want to hinder that

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker День назад

      absolutely. Those are very comparable roles overall and the CM(S) is a great substitute

    Video request: it would be very nice to see you breakdown mentality on fm24, how they works on tactics and what is the different one or another.

    Amazing video again, you have no idea how helpful this channel is to everyone in the FM community, I do have a question though, I’ve noticed in a lot of your videos you don’t really use a lot of team instructions, certainly not the mainstream meta ones that have a lot of success in FM, is that just for the purpose of testing things on your videos to show people how certain roles operate without added instructions or do you find you have a lot of success without using them?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker 2 дня назад

      thanks for the comments :) and the tactics from these videos are pretty much what I use in normal play. Some videos I don't use instructions if I want to specifically highlight a concept (like the hybrid tactic one), but yea I keep it pretty minimal. And you can totally have success with this style, but it's not like "win every match 4-0" kind of success. As an example, in my Luton Town save that we looked at in a few videos, I finished the Premier League season. We were expected to be relegated and we finished 13th; for me, that's a massive success.

      @ thanks for the reply, yeah I get what you mean, think I’ll try that out, it does get repetitive sometimes just reusing the same instructions but it feels like with FM24 sometimes you only get success playing the same way over and over again, but this is a breath of fresh air, thanks again :)

    Do you ever do some of these scouting steps in advance of your match? Either watching highlights of the opponent or anything involving the data hub? This method is great just curious if there are any tips you would have for getting your starting posture set before the game starts.

      yep, for sure! In fact, I think I've got a video on the Data Hub later this week. Stay tuned!

    Hello i want to ask about training schedule. Is it a must to put "recovery" and "rest" training a day after match? . because i see you're not using recovery or rest on monday when you have match on sunday. Can you explain it? Thanks.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker 2 дня назад

      that one may have just been a slip up, good catch! After every match, I like to do "Recovery - Rest - Team Bonding" though sometimes travel gets in the way of the team bonding session.
