OMG, the Teacher made a video about training! You want to get into troubles my friend, it's such a controversial matter! Ahahahahahhaha. I want to add some bullet points, after some 20 years of tinkering training in FM: - every "individual role" session improves the role tactical familiarity of that specific player in that specific role. So if it is true that you are not forced to train a player in the role he plays, you should train him in another role only when he is at full role familiarity (last bar of the familiarity bars) - whenever a session is less than 100% for a unit, the rest of the time players of that unit do three things: individual role training, individual focus, development of weaker foot. The last one, can be pushed by the manager if one foot is less than reasonable, or can be done by the player himself "in his spare time" if he is very professional. Because of this, goalkeeper sessions are very important - you should move players between defense and attack units if you don't use many individual training sessions - training happiness is massively important. It is especially important that you do a lot of physical training preseason so that your players say "happy the hard preseason training is working out" or something like that. This prevents the famous "drop in January" - when it comes to player growth, training is the only important thing until 18 yo. Afterwards, it fades until 24 when it matters nothing at all. Because of this, you should think about managing your u18 training - whoever wants to micromanage training should be careful and read the sessikn description: do you really want to train your strikers in crossing? - training affects injuries much more than playing. Some tricks: play as much as possibile your injury-prone players and rest them after playing. You can set U21/Bteam friendly during the week and play them there. It's a bit cheating, but it works. - after injuries, set individual focus to recovery. Massively important to avoid re-injury. Obviously, you need sessions doing individual focus (second bullet) - intensity is extremely important: I use automatic intensity with "no pitch or gym" for all conditions but the full one (green heart). This way, players don't do physical training after games, but they still do tactical film sessions - set pieces sessions improve set pieces familiarity and therefore set pieces effectiveness - the recovery session is extremely important in the second part of the season if you play a crazy schedule like prem + english cups + champions + world cup. Abuse it. Sorry for being long, training is a bit of a rabbit hole 😀
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker it's really a rabbit hole. If you think about it, you have 3 sessions a day, dozens of possible sessions and there is a short, a medium and a long term consequence depending non only on the sessions you select, but even the sequence! I am not sure there is a more complicated thing in any other videogame. Maybe Civilization. Anyway, you could do a series just on this. Or simply hire a good assistant manager 🤣
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker manual and hints are more than enough. I promise you, a perfect training gives you just a small edge, especially when you have a crazy schedule
I also like to select sessions based on if it improves player happiness as well if we are in a slump. and if we miss chances in the previous game i do the chance conversion drill the following week. Not sure if thats something other people do or not.
These videos are really useful even for the seasoned CM/FM player. The detailed description of players rolls have helped me understand more because my brain is still in the mode of when CM/FM was basically primitive compared to the last few years lol . Appreciate the work you put in ! . Seeing how it looks like your branching out from your typical roll videos , maybe you could do some where you explain certain league rules which seem complicated I.E turkish/italian league etc . There's many leagues I'd like to manage in but the league rules confuse me so much so I just don't manage in that league!
thank you for the kind words :) and that would be an awesome video idea! I'd have to do some studying for that one haha. Even our league here in the states (the MLS) has some crazy rules which I don't even undertsand them all
This is an excellent topic, this whole training stuff is broken. Some guys showed that basically quickness + 2x match practice + overall ( I think ) is enough to go to the 🌙 🚀
Loving the video dude. So calm and to the point. I have a new save in the 2nd flight in Uruguay and my team is pretty awful. I suspect we'll be on the back foot often. Some defensive videos would be interesting if you have any time. Thanks! Keep up the good work.
thank you for the kind words :) and yea I probably should do some more focused on defending! If you're curious, my video on counter attacks may give you some ideas in the meantime. I use Heidenheim as one of the teams and how you can setup a defensive stye tactic
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I'll check that out this evening. The NCB video I found helpful. Was thinking of using them and the Enganche Poacher for a counter tactic. I've always heard in FM if you try to park-the-bus, it doesn't really work. It seems high tempo high press tactics rule all so good to see alternatives like your asymmetric 442!
Actually, based on what I saw in the place you probably got that from, you are better off removing the "overall" session. Also: don't forget that you also got to set double intensity and quickness as an individual focus for everyone who's not a GK
I was always under an impression that positional training improved also player's tactical familiarity with the role, which could affect their performance. I never looked at this focus as a way to simply narrow down the training, regardless of my tactic. Thanks.
One additional thought: once you start playing in Europe, basically every FM training tutorial ceases to be useful, as you will find yourself with e.g. two training sessions between games (plus regeneration and rest).
I love to look at the team cohesion stat (on the dynamics page); I hope to cover it in an upcoming video. And great point on your additional thought; very true that sometimes you barely have time to rest/recover, let alone train with all the matches
I usually do more physical/general training sessions (weight training, general attack/defend) rather than the specific technical focuses. The biggest thing for preseason for me is to get team cohesion up as quick as I can. Hope to make a vide on my preseason soon :)
thanks :) and there's actually two skins, the first one is the Rensie skin I showed for the Montpellier team info. And I use the FM24 Classic skin for the player stuff. Both can be found on FMScout (and the Rensie is linked in the description). They're excellent skins!
I know this is about role playing and about your individual approach to training, but I've found that if you're going to give players an Additional Focus to train, they'll see far better results if your team training schedule has very few of the Extra Sessions filled. Which makes sense - players can't work on specific aspects of their game by themselves if they're training with the squad 3 times a day. Just something to bear in mind if you're following that style of training philosophy.
Awesome video 😎 On the tactic familiarity view there is a bar for player position/role/duty. When I train players on the roles they'll play the bar goes up and down when they train other roles. Does this have an effect during a game?
If I'm not mistaken, the role familiartiy is an older system that the newer FM's don't use anymore. In any case, if it does have an effect, I still like to change my tactics and roles around during matches so that's just a byproduct. I always pay attention to the Team Cohesion stat (on the dynamics page) much more
Thank you :) and I think that'd be a good way to do it if you like those well rounded players. So switching between the units every couple months means they get different attributes focused
I believe Position/Role/Duty is misunderstood and it's only for teaching players a new role/position/duty and not for training stats. Stats is what playing, the weekly training and additional focuses help do. I may be heavily mistaken myself, but I never use P/R/D for anyone unless they need to be in a new position etc.
Yea I may be mistaken myself, so the more info we can share the better. That's why I usually stick to the immersion factor haha; I'll just be enjoying my little save 😆😆
I noticed you have the guys train hard on the day after match days. I prefer to just do recovery/match review on the day after a game to make the team less prone to injury/less fatigued
thanks for the clarification! must've been a mistake on my part on the days maybe haha... usually the day after a match I do recover/match review/ rest (so the same :D
Thank you very much for your content! In fact, I have never played FM before, and your videos inspired me to get a copy! You probably receive a lot of requests already, but do you plan to make a video about setting up a new save?.. More specifically, on how to choose the simulated leagues, the size of the player database etc... I want to have a realistic "world" in my save with players and staff from a wide selection of countries, but FM threatens me with bad performance when I choose a large database and lots of leagues😅
thanks :D As for the save, I think I'm going to talk about my current Montpellier settings in an upcoming video... I do most of the leagues loaded hahaha. But I also do a slower pace with my proper saves, rather than simulating through them all real quick. So it's less taxing on the computer (at least that's what I tell myself haha). I just have to all the leagues loaded!
Running with a very tight schedule every two or three days a league match, champions league, FA cup, carabao cup and many others. We need big time recovery to be ready for the next game. We are all fatigue
I think I had one time at the end of the year in one save where we had a game every 3 days for a month straight. Had to call up every youth and reserve player we had just to make it through
Thank you for the video :) The problem that I see when you don't train players on the role they are suppose to play on our tactic is that they low the familiarity on the formation. Don't you consider that metric important? Keep it up!
thank you for the comment :) I like to change roles and tactics (somewhat) frequently during my normal saves, so their familiarity will ebb and flow with the season. I like the one training role to make sure he's improving the attributes I want. I will say, the biggest stat I look for is Team Cohesion (on the team dynamics page). That's the driving force behind all I do. It'll improve all your player's stats and performance during a match. I hope to get into Team Cohesion more in an upcoming video :)
I've seen some differing stuff on role/tactical familiarity. There's been some talk about how RF isn't really a thing in recent FM's. And for me I change tactics and roles a lot anyway haha. I mostly pay attention to Team Cohesion over tactical familiarity
When you are training a player in a specific position. Let's say Advanced playmaker. I understand he will work on some specific attributs. But does it affect the position/role/duty of the tactical familiarity. This is what i thought but i'm wondering now. This bar is very hard to fill and often stay "Awkward". It will be logical to train a player in the position he will play so he will become use to the role we ask him to do.
I did a lot of research into this before the video and (if I'm not mistaken) role familiarity within the tactic isn't a thing; it was a leftover from previous FM's. With tactical familiarity (just the player's general knowledge of the tactic), I usually change formations/roles a lot during the season anyway, so I pay attention to the Team Cohesion stay on the dynamics page more than anything. And thank you for the comment :)
Thank you for the feedback, I'll try to do it in my save. I've been trying to get the right training schedules for my Torino team as I'm trying to "counter attack to Europe".
I have noticed that when I train a player in one position/role/duty (say an AP(s) at AMC), but then play him at a different spot (say MEZ(a) at MCR) his tactical familiarity takes a hit, which indicates to me that their individual role in training *does* in some way affect how they'd perform in a match. Do you think I'm interpreting that wrong? Or do you figure the difference in familiarity is negligible enough to not worry about?
I generally don't worry about it. And not necessarily because it's not impactful (sorry for the double negative lol), but because I change tactics/roles a lot, so stuff is going to change and they'll be less familiar with those changes. To me, the biggest stat is Team Cohesion. That's a global improvement for the whole squad and tactic if you have good team cohesion
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Yep. My anal-retentiveness really wants all those bars filled up, but at the same time I hate being inflexible with the tactic. Thanks for the therapy :)
I think it was just a small error and I hadn't changed the next day yet. since matches are Sunday, Monday would be the day after but I didn't change those for the example. thanks for the heads up :)
The biggest factor would be his training rating (I probably should've mentioned rating in this video haha). So if he's getting good training ratings (7.0+) then keep at it.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Quick question though Between roaming playmaker role and a Central midfielder role which one is more useful when out of possession? Need a way to reduce goals conceded (which is high) without complomising my team's goal scoring (which is also high)
@@renneckmadalitsokajomboban3240 Focused purely defensively, I would say the CM is more useful for anchoring the midfield. The RPM is a good ball winner but will leave their position. Central Defender (defend) is one of the most stable roles defensively. Importantly, they're not going to get forward when you have the ball. They help a lot in transition phases and keeping your team from being hit on the counter. The CM(D) and a RPM are a real good pair together.
sometimes it can lead to more injuries; usually after a match I try to do a rest and recovery day to help combat fatigue/change of injury. (I think I forgot to show it in this video)
I did a lot of research for the role familiarity part; the role familiarity bar (the one on the player's training page) seems to be leftover from older football manager and how they calculated it and there isn't role familiarity, just how familiar they are with the tactic. For the record, I generally approach player training in your way; focusing on training that the player will be most likely to play in
literally have to play this game with someone, it makes no sense lol. Whenever my players have the ball, either the good passer makes a lousy through ball turning it into a chance for the opp team or the weak passer gives away the ball. lol
I'm very sorry to write this, but this is probably the first time this channel makes a mistake Asian FMs have recently proven that the amount of training does not affect the leveling of players at all. You only need to have ~7 sessions per week, and there is no point in filling all the cells with training, it will give nothing but injuries Just do two match practices, two defense training and one physical training - that's all you need for the whole week. You can fill the empty cells with teamwork or recovery
This channel has basically become the Football Manager Bible. SI should hire you to do official guides

I am a simple man, I see The DLP uploading, I press a like and take out my FM notebook.
the FM notebook is the best kind of notebook :D
Even our league here in the states (the MLS) has some crazy rules which I don't even undertsand them all
instant upvote well deserved.
thank you :)
I was going to ask what skin you use... and you have it in the description box. Love it and this video!
thank you!!
This is an excellent topic, this whole training stuff is broken.
Some guys showed that basically quickness + 2x match practice + overall ( I think ) is enough to go to the 🌙 🚀
very interesting for sure!! That's why I usually stick to my little immersion corner haha
Quickness + overall + 2x match practice with individual focus is the best training
Actually, based on what I saw in the place you probably got that from, you are better off removing the "overall" session.
Also: don't forget that you also got to set double intensity and quickness as an individual focus for everyone who's not a GK
great tips thanks :D
Fantastic! Similar approach to me generally but a couple of points I hadn't considered before that I will be adopting. Many thanks.
great minds think alike! glad you and I have similar outlooks to training :D
Excellent video DLP. Would love a follow up talking about preseason training/schedule setup.
thank you :) I've got an idea for preseason stuff coming in the hopefully near(ish) future
Thank you for the insight on how player training actually works
thank you for the comment :)
Nice work! Any tips on preseason training?
Yep good idea !
I usually do more physical/general training sessions (weight training, general attack/defend) rather than the specific technical focuses. The biggest thing for preseason for me is to get team cohesion up as quick as I can. Hope to make a vide on my preseason soon :)
Training players the ‘Roaming Spacemaker’ way 😂
Can’t wait for a vid on set pieces
I do need to do the set piece video at some point haha
Another great video. Simple but really well done like all the others.
One question about the skin in this video. Wich one is it?
thanks :) and there's actually two skins, the first one is the Rensie skin I showed for the Montpellier team info.
Just something to bear in mind if you're following that style of training philosophy.
this is an AMAZING tip thank you!! Never thought about that before. As my friend says, "every day's a school day" haha
Awesome guide!
Shall the reserve squad train with the main squad?
You can add in some reserve/youth player to your Units, but I don't believe they're there by default
Awesome video 😎
On the tactic familiarity view there is a bar for player position/role/duty.
I always pay attention to the Team Cohesion stat (on the dynamics page) much more
Great video as always. Is it wise to rotate players between units? Say I have my bbm in attacking and defensive unit every couple of weeks?
I want to have a realistic "world" in my save with players and staff from a wide selection of countries, but FM threatens me with bad performance when I choose a large database and lots of leagues😅
thanks :D
As for the save, I think I'm going to talk about my current Montpellier settings in an upcoming video...
Had to call up every youth and reserve player we had just to make it through
1:47 Joris Chotard, my beloved DM in FM. He and Enzo Le Fee are my dream choices for a double pivot in FM 😂
Looking over their squad and was like Joris is already like the 2-3 best player on the team. Could fund the club for years if he develops and moves on
I'm looking forward to the eventual video with:
Chapter 1: Subject
Chapter 2: Nope
Doing chapters was all fun and games until I made videos that didn't need them lol
Doesn't player role template help with overall tactical familiarity?
Are the automatic subtitles on RUclips not available for this video?
I think something happened with the auo subtitles... sorry about that :( I've been looking at it to try and figure out a solution
Actually, individual role training DO improve play on the field, by boosting player’s familiarity with role and tactic
thank you for the addition/clarification!
One thing i still don't quite understand. When, if ever, would you do "Playing position" training for a players individual training?
from the research I found, I believe that they would train in the player role they're being used in the tactic. though I could be mistaken
👌
How should the training schedules be done if you have Midweek and weekend games
I always prioritize rest and recovery during midweek. Usually match practice/tactic sessions, and not a lot of weight training (if any)
Thank you for the feedback, I'll try to do it in my save.
Thanks for the therapy :)
do trainings influence tactics that much?
yep :) they can have an impact on tactics, depending on which focus you choose
after the match dont you need to give rest to the team??
I think it was just a small error and I hadn't changed the next day yet. since matches are Sunday, Monday would be the day after but I didn't change those for the example. thanks for the heads up :)
is it a real matter if your player is unhappy with your assignment ? Ex: He is natural at DM but you train him in Mezzala
If they aren't kicking up a fuss don't worry about it
The biggest factor would be his training rating (I probably should've mentioned rating in this video haha). So if he's getting good training ratings (7.0+) then keep at it.
which skin do you use?
There were two skins used in this video (both from FMScout). The first was the dark Rensie FM24 skin. And the other one is the FM24 Classic Skin
I saw it first 😂😂🥳
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Quick question though
Between roaming playmaker role and a Central midfielder role which one is more useful when out of possession?
Need a way to reduce goals conceded (which is high) without complomising my team's goal scoring (which is also high)
@@renneckmadalitsokajomboban3240
Focused purely defensively, I would say the CM is more useful for anchoring the midfield.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker thank you I'll try pairing them together
Doesn't this make your players get injured much more?
sometimes it can lead to more injuries; usually after a match I try to do a rest and recovery day to help combat fatigue/change of injury. (I think I forgot to show it in this video)
I dont think it is a good idea to do train player in role which you wont use . Doesnt it lower your player old role familiarity ?
I did a lot of research for the role familiarity part; the role familiarity bar (the one on the player's training page) seems to be leftover from older football manager and how they calculated it and there isn't role familiarity, just how familiar they are with the tactic. For the record, I generally approach player training in your way; focusing on training that the player will be most likely to play in
can u put subtitles pls 🙏
that's a good suggestion thank you :) I will look into subtitles
thx ❤️ @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
literally have to play this game with someone, it makes no sense lol. Whenever my players have the ball, either the good passer makes a lousy through ball turning it into a chance for the opp team or the weak passer gives away the ball. lol
the amount of times I've had a player pass it to no one haha.. i feel your pain!!
I'm very sorry to write this, but this is probably the first time this channel makes a mistake
Asian FMs have recently proven that the amount of training does not affect the leveling of players at all. You only need to have ~7 sessions per week, and there is no point in filling all the cells with training, it will give nothing but injuries
Just do two match practices, two defense training and one physical training - that's all you need for the whole week. You can fill the empty cells with teamwork or recovery
thanks for the heads up/correct :) I usually just do the training setup like this for my own personal immersion in the save haha
