You make the best FM content on YT! I really like your thought proces, and how calm and confident you explain everything. I would really like to see you pick a team, show how you rate the players and pick your tactic and then play a match. That way I can maybe learn what to look for and focus on. Thank you for your amazing videos!
Thank you so much for the full match notice. There is so much content in the internet of people judging tactics simulating the game... everybody can play a single player game the way they want, but simulation is not playing!!!
On my proper saves I only play on full match highlights. It takes a long time obviously haha, but it allows you to see how the team builds up and if it fails, you can see it happen in real time (and try to fix it) Plus, when watching the full match, you never know when a goal is going to be scored haha. Adds a lot of excitement
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I also play full match or comprehensive. Now I simulate the easiest games because I have a strong team and I want to speed up seasons, but I realise that it's a totally different game when you simulate. Players who just don't work in the game engine can score goals aplenty when you simulate. All good for those who have fun with it, but I don't get the point. I just lived a full time Champions League final and it's a top videogame experience
Yea a final in real time is an unparalled gaming experience. Even in this video, when Brighton had that chance in the 94th minute I almost had a heart attack hahaha
These videos are so nicely done! really easy to digest and the editing syle is class. Be great to see more tactic videos and potentially a video on Scouting, since the new scouting model has come in I am not sure what the best method of scouting is anymore! 👍
really enjoyed this, would love to see if you can make a video on how to adjust your tactics/ player acquisition when you get promoted with a dominant team. Another for the future would be how to set up a team in continental competition when your squad is now pretty even in quality, without tactical whiplash between league and cup play.
Thank you for the support and glad you enjoyed the videos! I think there's a saying if you can't explain something in simple terms you don't understand it haha so I always try to have that philsophy with my videos
Excellent content mate, this is the way. I like because you dont use the team comparision as me, but everything has the logical thought behind. One thing I like to do as well is when I look for my 3 best players to build the tactic around, I usually read the coach report, it always gives you a Pro and a Con from the player.
thank you!! And that's always my goal with these videos; you guys are free to use (or not use haha) any of my approaches/tactics and pick and choose what works for you.
it's such a rewarding way to play; kinda like I touched on in the video, but you know when you build a tactic and score a goal, there's no greater feeling haha. It's not without it's frustrating, but I love it
Absolutely overjoyed to see this video! Your content is concise and presented beautifully! Keep doing what you’re doing man! I’d love to see this for a top team with pressure to win every match. Crack on with the good work my friend!
Thank you!! Between you and me, I would love to do more top team stuff. If I'm honest though I always have the trepidation of doing it for tactics videos because if it works it's like "yea it works it's Man City" or something hahaha
i have been waiting for your next upload, this is such a great video to start off talking about tactics, and you are 100% right you should always start with no instructions and slowly start to add them after observing your games. cant wait for next upload and hope you make more videos on this topic, cheers mate!
It's soooo much easier to adjust a tactic without team instructions. If your player does something crazy, you know it's his player role rather than trying to figure out what team instruction is making him do that. And thank you for the support!
i like to see your numbers growing. i've just discovered your channel and I think i'm observing a rising star. keep going and keep focusing on tactical explanaitions... hope one day to see a proper career for an audience of full grown pepole

that really means a lot, thank you for the support!! I try to make videos that I want to see so that's kinda where the philosophy comes from. I will say, one of those roles you mentioned may be coming sooner rather than later haha.
Where were you all this time? How are you this good?....you make videos not only great in content but also you explain it that even beginers would understand well
I always try to focus on videos that I would've wanted to watch when I started playing FM. Where people can follow along if they're a beginner, and then adapt to their own style if they're more advanced. And thank you for the kind words and supporting the channel!
Fantastic. Wonderful. I'd LOVE to see you do much longer ones and actually do a save in which you apply your methodical thinking to Manchester United (yup) and show us how you'd go about managing the team and reviving the club.
Deeplying playmaker, once again, another fantastic educational video! 🙌 But this time without one of your special hats. 😄 I re-watched this upload a couple of times and would like to say, around the 11:00 minute mark, I noticed I would tweak quite a lot in your tactic. But then I thought, hey! That's exactly the beauty of this game. [There are so many ways to Rome]. And you are giving your viewers the tools to start tweaking their own tactics and have a lot of fun in this year's great match engine. One thing I wondered, however, is if you adjust your tactics based on the opponent? There’s always the debate between creating tactics based on your players' strengths or imposing a specific tactic on them. But what about situational management? Especially in this edition, adjusting to game conditions, formations, or opponents' playing styles really works wonders. To give some examples: I like to adjust my passing style to be more direct in bad weather (rain or snow). And against opponents who sit deep, I always go max width to create space [I have heard this quote somewhere 😁] As for opponents like Brighton, I would also counter-attack and exploit the space behind that high line. The instructions I would add are counter-attack, regroup, and press a bit higher than normal to disrupt their passing rhythm and force mistakes. Maybe also add some specific player instructions: for all players with bad long-range shooting to shoot less, and for the two central defenders not to press as it is especially risky when they push out of position. I know you are a fan of an anchorman, but if he drops back to make a back three with the full-backs pushing up, I would probably position the ball-winning midfielder as a VM(L/R). Overall, it makes me want to start a save with Luton. Thanks m8
Love the suggestions, excellent!! And the video does feel a little less special without one of my hats haha. It's funny with my videos, I always try to separate what is an absolute in the game (ex: an advanced forward will always be a striker) versus what is my tactical preference or something subjective (like playing with a certain formation or using certain roles) So whenever I do these instructional videos about tactics, I try to show my process so that's it's applicable to everyone's team but be sure not to say "but you have to build your team this way". That's why I think we love FM, there's so many ways to win. But I love your tips for playing Brighton. It'd be interesting to run the same experiment but try those tips to see how it changes. It may or may not be a suprise, but I love to change tactics and even to counter the opponent's formation
I don't have any plans for those topics in the immediate future; I still have player roles to make my way through (still have a number of those left haha) and I've got some other ideas for tactics. But I love the suggestions and I'll see if I can add. them to my planner. And thank you for the support!!
It's a good way to check what to do, although I do think the game does a great job to simplify this. Just filtering by best position and star rating, does help to see which are the best players and you can quickly develop a tactic around those 3 or 4 players. Also seeing many players good in certain positions helps to know how much depth our squad will have, team instructions many times can be set even before playing a match, squad comparison does wonders here. For example a team with defenders who have poor tackling will have to put instruction "stay on feet" even before first match starts, bc team is not going to do them so we want to avoid player doing things which they are not good at. Same with instructions for GK, if they have poor throwing / kicking best to adjust that in how they distribute ball from tactic instructions, narrow formation also tend to want to have narrow or very narrow width, so i feel many things can be set even before first match and one can adjust if needed later on. I think doing a video that reviews for example set pieces could be good, it's a big part of any game, and having them setup correctly can be the difference between winning or loosing, not to mention the instruction "play for set pieces" which can work well if team has good stats on attributes corners or free kicks.
When making a tactic I'll play the same fixture 4/5 times on extended or comprehensive to look at player positions, heat maps, passes and all that to adjust player roles or refine team and player instructions For instance I had a DM Anchor making the most passes consistently so I changed him to a DLP so he's more inclined to dictate play - those kinds of things
that's a great tip thanks for adding it! It's a great point, you want to pay attention to your players and adjust their role to what they're doing anyway to try and maximize their play
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I’ve just implemented your Poacher/DLF/Shadow Striker front line And I was originally using a left full back on attack and right full back on support - but my RB was completing 20+ more passes a game. I swapped their mentalities and he finished the game with a 9.2 and 1 assist
Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the support!! You know I do love Southampton haha; their focus on youth academy is like my dream for every club I manage.
Really love your videos. A tip about English team names: the emphasis goes on the second word. Luton /town/, not /Luton/ town. Like how you wouldn't say "I'm going to /New York/ City"
What is your background? You speak so clearly, your video editing/graphics are top notch, and of course super knowledgeable with fm. Feels like a pro just popped up out of nowhere lol
I think it was your best video yet. Most of the fm videos are very click-baity and just hand us plug and play tactics to dominate. A lot of us care more about understanding at a deeper level, and your videos help with that. Would love to see continued videos on specific formations, and even more raw longer form ones of you playing through various saves!
Funny enough, my background is in broadcasting and video production. So that stuff translated pretty nicely into youtube content in regards to audio, editing, etc.. For FM, I've been playing since the 2013 version I think? And I've been interested in tactics and player roles and how they interact with each other. I guess the two kinda naturally fit together
and thank you! I like to make videos that I would've liked to see when I started out, so that's really where the channel and video ideas started. And I always like to be up front about tactic stuff and how it's not a magic elixir; like the tactic in this one won't be a dominant tactic or score tons of goals but hopefully you get more enjoyment making your own
Well the bad news is that the Enganche isn't in the next chunk of scheduled videos, but the good news is that I've gotten a couple of requests for it so I may try to move it ahead a little! Thank you for the suggestion and thank you for the support!
Yea I've got a lot of plans for more tactic stuff in the future! It'll be tough because with Luton I think our next 5 matches includes Man City, Liverpoool, Arsenal, and Chelsea haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker, awesome I can't wait! That could be a splendid video, though right? You could explain how one could deal with such a difficult series of fixtures. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Very nice video! Could you explain each individual team instruction and its effect. For me off the ball instructions for defending are hard to understand
Really great video, informative and allows anyone to replicate through learning as you go, I have one question, what are your thoughts on ratemytactic, I’ve got into a hole where I use till it’s 5 stars but then notice people who don’t use it have equally if not more success
I really like it to sketch out formation ideas because I think it's helpful to see if you're on the right track. Like, "oh this 433 could make a good foundation for my team" kinda thing and then make adjustments based on your team. Plus it's fun to make a tactic that's 5 stars lol But there's so many ways to make a tactic, I wouldn't say its the end all be all. If you're enjoying using it, I would say keep at it!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Brilliant lol, making notes seemed a little over the top but actually worked. On team instructions I started with a balanced mentality and everything else at default (so in the middle with passing and so on). Basically I found the weaknesses adjusted roles and duties and complemented any positive movement with team instructions. What I noticed is that less is more. No player instructions I just let the roles do the work. Cheers 🍻
that's awesome and exactly how'd you would want it to play out! I find a fluid/flexible approach to the match makes it much easier to take advantage of what the opponent is doing. (as opposed to saying, "I'm using this 433 possession now matter what!") The note taking is totally over the top I agree but it makes me feel like I'm Pep or something so I like it haha
Lovely stuff again - was interesting seeing you start Andros on the right wing as a winger, even though he is a natural left footer. Was that intentional or just the best person for that role?
I liked having Doughty on the left wing, and Townsend could play decent with his other foot, so I chose him on the right wing. Funny enough Doughty was the one who got injured so Townsend ended up on the left anways after I moved him over haha.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thought so! I often enjoy putting players like that on the opposite flank but on a traditional winger role, to allow them to naturally cut inside based on their preferred foot, rather than have them as inverted wingers. Keeps things entertaining!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Off topic, but I'd love to see how you would set up this US squad in the Copa America. Some... interesting tactical choices so far.
You know that's a good idea. In this one I was thinking more about Townsend and getting him on the wing, but you're right a back-3 would let get those wingbacks into the match more. I guess that's why we love FM, so many ways to build a tactic
Any tips on how to have a W(A) be more than just a crosser while also keeping the width? Wondering if player instructions/PPMs could help with that.. I want my wingers to be like that wide receiver who could at any moment take off, although I want to encourage him to either cut in at the end and dribble into box instead of only ever crossing. I also go back and forth about if his strong foot should be on same side or not.. I don’t want to remove the ability to cross, but having strong foot on the inside makes him more deadly to cut in and shoot (I don’t want to swap him to an IW because I still want him to keep that width)
Yea I think you're on the right track; in the short term, you could use player instructions to morph the winger into a role you want. I don't have the instructions in front of me, but a Winger is one of the more generic roles so it should have a ton of instructions available to fit it perfectly in your tactic (so things like sit narrower, or dribble more, or cut inside with the ball, things like that) And then maybe a long term vision, once you get the role how you like in your tactic, train your players on player traits that highlight those instructions
I would try the IW with the "stays wide when team is in possession" player instruction. you could also try teaching an IW to dribble down that flank if you want them to take the fullback for a ride, as well as the reverse, i.e. teaching a winger to cut inside when they have the ball. I wish we had a more generic wide fwd role like the am_S that you can just turn into anything.
hey im still srtugglng, i use these tips and fell to a 5 2 3, but i constaly ketp getting overloaded in the midfield, i tries playing ith and inverting wingback but nothing changed, also struggling to find a role that can still help the defence and link with the offence without being to deep or high, this season i got europa but i am just managing to stay top 10 and idk what to do?
Hmmm.. that's a good question. What's the normal formation your running? A 442 like this one? I love the 442 but sometimes it's easy to get overrun in the midfield. You could always try maybe a 4411 and change a striker to an attacking midfielder, like an Advanced Playmaker. He'll help with build up (without getting too deep or high) and give you another body in the midfield
In my proper saves, I watch every match in full but I'm an FM sicko haha. For all the tactic videos I watch every match in full as well. But for other stuff where I'm trying to find info or get some data, it's the second one... monitoring the tactic to make sure it's doing what I want basicall
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker that’s very impressive I don’t know if I would be able to spend a full 90 minutes watching a match, especially if I’m getting outplayed the whole time hahah

Hmm, that's a good idea! I hadn't really considered a training method but I might have to add something in for that. Thanks for the suggestion!

From the moment i started watching you, i started mixed with my tactics, and it is not well ! After 20 matches, i was 2 in the first season with West Ham thanks
Loved it! Please, do more videos like this
thank you! There should be more variety in the videos going forward with player roles and more tactic stuff!
You make the best FM content on YT! I really like your thought proces, and how calm and confident you explain everything. I would really like to see you pick a team, show how you rate the players and pick your tactic and then play a match. That way I can maybe learn what to look for and focus on. Thank you for your amazing videos!
Glad you like them!
More of these please! this is great info, literally took notes for this lol XD
that means a lot that you took notes haha. And there will definitely be more like this in the very near future!

I am here since the first video and before your channel blows up
Glad you've been supporting the community the whole time!! Been a great ride so far and hopefully it continues
Best fm channel on YT by a long stretch! Keep up the good work mate
that means a lot, thank you! Happy you're enjoying the videos
Thank you so much for the full match notice. There is so much content in the internet of people judging tactics simulating the game... everybody can play a single player game the way they want, but simulation is not playing!!!
On my proper saves I only play on full match highlights. It takes a long time obviously haha, but it allows you to see how the team builds up and if it fails, you can see it happen in real time (and try to fix it)
Plus, when watching the full match, you never know when a goal is going to be scored haha.
Great suggestions! I'll see if I can work something in on scouting and some more videos

Not yet, pretty much just live in the YT comment section haha
yep, only play in 2D!
really enjoyed this, would love to see if you can make a video on how to adjust your tactics/ player acquisition when you get promoted with a dominant team. Another for the future would be how to set up a team in continental competition when your squad is now pretty even in quality, without tactical whiplash between league and cup play.
all great suggestions, thanks! I'll keep those in mind as a develop some more tactic stuff
i didnt know i needed this so much, wow. You never cease to impress, man, I'm baffled

Your videos are awesome. This was great to see how you approach tactics. More tactics videos would be good.
thank you! The channel should be have more tactic stuff going forward, combined with the usual player role guides
Love this kind of video man. I appreciate how simple you explain things.
One thing I like to do as well is when I look for my 3 best players to build the tactic around, I usually read the coach report, it always gives you a Pro and a Con from the player.
very good tip thanks for sharing. I figured there may be some value in showing how I pick the squad, even though it may not be the most efficient haha
Been waiting for this. Great video. Will definitely add some of these thoughts into my own process.
thank you!! And that's always my goal with these videos; you guys are free to use (or not use haha) any of my approaches/tactics and pick and choose what works for you.

Great video man!! 👍
thank you!
I definitely want to learn more about this so I can apply it to my own FM style. Feels like it would be very rewarding
it's such a rewarding way to play; kinda like I touched on in the video, but you know when you build a tactic and score a goal, there's no greater feeling haha. It's not without it's frustrating, but I love it
Absolutely overjoyed to see this video! Your content is concise and presented beautifully! Keep doing what you’re doing man!
I’d love to see this for a top team with pressure to win every match. Crack on with the good work my friend!

i have been waiting for your next upload, this is such a great video to start off talking about tactics, and you are 100% right you should always start with no instructions and slowly start to add them after observing your games.
cant wait for next upload and hope you make more videos on this topic, cheers mate!

Perfect way to start the day!
What could be better? Haha
Deeplying playmaker, once again, another fantastic educational video! 🙌 But this time without one of your special hats. 😄
I re-watched this upload a couple of times and would like to say, around the 11:00 minute mark, I noticed I would tweak quite a lot in your tactic.
And against opponents who sit deep, I always go max width to create space [I have heard this quote somewhere 😁]
As for opponents like Brighton, I would also counter-attack and exploit the space behind that high line.
Instant like button👍
Wonderful channel. Will there be any videos about player traits, or trainings?
I don't have any plans for those topics in the immediate future; I still have player roles to make my way through (still have a number of those left haha) and I've got some other ideas for tactics. But I love the suggestions and I'll see if I can add. them to my planner. And thank you for the support!!
the GOAT!
I love how you actually explain everything, but i don't think is working all the time's.
I think doing a video that reviews for example set pieces could be good, it's a big part of any game, and having them setup correctly can be the difference between winning or loosing, not to mention the instruction "play for set pieces" which can work well if team has good stats on attributes corners or free kicks.
thanks for the detailed reply! and for the suggestion! I hope to do a video on set pieces in the future :)
When making a tactic I'll play the same fixture 4/5 times on extended or comprehensive to look at player positions, heat maps, passes and all that to adjust player roles or refine team and player instructions
For instance I had a DM Anchor making the most passes consistently so I changed him to a DLP so he's more inclined to dictate play - those kinds of things
that's a great tip thanks for adding it! It's a great point, you want to pay attention to your players and adjust their role to what they're doing anyway to try and maximize their play
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I’ve just implemented your Poacher/DLF/Shadow Striker front line
And I was originally using a left full back on attack and right full back on support - but my RB was completing 20+ more passes a game. I swapped their mentalities and he finished the game with a 9.2 and 1 assist
Loved this style of video. Good work!
I only wish you picked Southampton so I could take some of your notes haha.

Thanks, this is gold!
Glad you liked it!
And I always like to be up front about tactic stuff and how it's not a magic elixir; like the tactic in this one won't be a dominant tactic or score tons of goals but hopefully you get more enjoyment making your own
Great video buddy 👍

haha yea I skipped the hat for today's video, I figured change things up just a bit
Excellent vid , can you make a vid about positive and balanced mentality?
thanks! And I've got some plans for a mentality video (at some point haha)
Plus it's fun to make a tactic that's 5 stars lol
But there's so many ways to make a tactic, I wouldn't say its the end all be all. If you're enjoying using it, I would say keep at it!
Love it I’ll give it a go
Thanks, keep us updated!!
(as opposed to saying, "I'm using this 433 possession now matter what!")
The note taking is totally over the top I agree but it makes me feel like I'm Pep or something so I like it haha

@@FMlestri It's almost like a secret player instruction when you do it like that haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Off topic, but I'd love to see how you would set up this US squad in the Copa America. Some... interesting tactical choices so far.
hey if they want to hire me as the manager, I'm all for it hahaha
I suggest some training guide videos, especially for youths 🙂
Great suggestion! thanks!
Would you consider moving to a 3 at the back (WCB,BPD,WCB possibly)? I’d love to see Lutons wingbacks playing to their fullest
I don't have the instructions in front of me, but a Winger is one of the more generic roles so it should have a ton of instructions available to fit it perfectly in your tactic (so things like sit narrower, or dribble more, or cut inside with the ball, things like that)
And then maybe a long term vision, once you get the role how you like in your tactic, train your players on player traits that highlight those instructions
Thank you, Mr. DLP! 😂
you're welcome!!
lets goooo
If you can, could you show us how to put together the perfect tactic for gegenpress and tik taka depth
I think I'll be wokring through these tactic series as the channel goes on, so hopefully should see more tactical styles!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker It makes perfect sense, thank you very much
hey im still srtugglng, i use these tips and fell to a 5 2 3, but i constaly ketp getting overloaded in the midfield, i tries playing ith and inverting wingback but nothing changed, also struggling to find a role that can still help the defence and link with the offence without being to deep or high, this season i got europa but i am just managing to stay top 10 and idk what to do?
Hmmm.. that's a good question.
Curious to whether you watch the full match for every single game or just the first couple to ensure your tactic is doing what you want it to?
In my proper saves, I watch every match in full but I'm an FM sicko haha. For all the tactic videos I watch every match in full as well.
But for other stuff where I'm trying to find info or get some data, it's the second one... monitoring the tactic to make sure it's doing what I want basicall
