Just filming some of the projects I do in the garage when I'm not working.
30 Year Old Tractor Gets Restomod! With a Diesel??
Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving! Wanted to give you all something to watch during your holiday week. This is 3 months of work condensed down into 30 minutes.
We take a beat up and abused Wheelhorse 314H and give it a new Diesel engine with a fresh paint job. This was the first long term project on the channel and helped make it what it is today.
Thanks for all the continued support.

Very cool video, Levi! Great editing. I am sooo jealous of your workspace and tools! The only thing you’re missing is a lathe. 😉
A very good looking, and useful tractor. Especially like the exhaust stack.
Impressive
Awsome build, been doing the same project for a while to an old 70s mountgumry ward and would like to learn more on the wiring extensions you did to the electric start to get it to reach the battery and Igniton switch etc. love your videos and appreciate the step by step videos, happy holidays to you as well
Love the sound of that diesel through that exhaust stack! Beautiful job!
you did a really great job. i really like how it turned out
Great job have a great thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Thanks for giving us a great tractor built
Happy Thanksgiving Levi…good to see the video
Excellent job that you have done of giving new life to an old Wheelhorse. As we speak I am repowering a worn out Yamaha golf cart with a salvaged Yanmar diesel like Merlin on Old School Garage. I got a Comet 94 duster clutch on the motor with no real problems, next is making my engine mounts and welding to my frame, Keep up the good work and hope to see more.
Now that sounds like a cool project! And funny enough, I’ve got a Yamaha G1 that’s been sitting for 6 months waiting its turn to make an appearance on the channel. The original rear end is bad and I cannot find a replacement! I’d even take a G2 rear end and make it fit at this point !
Looks incredible! How many hours did it take to complete the restoration? Happy Thanksgiving!
Fantastic job 😊
great job
Maybe I missed something, but why do you need the stator and ignition part of this kit? The starter and flywheel I get but I dunno I must be having a brain fart on the other stuff and it's purpose... wait fog from the fart clearing up a little bit. Ya wanna keep the battery charged, okay I was thinking of my application which is on my snowblower on which I use the 110 volt starter that is onboard so exsqeeze me so sarry😅
Technically you don’t! But the kit came with the all those components so it can charge a battery as well. If you’re going to go through all the work of changing flywheels etc, you might as well give it the ability to maintain onboard power.
first
I don't even know if Tecumseh still makes engines.
Great video! I love the old tractors. I have an old Gilson 18HP Briggs & Stratton 693cc with hydrostatic drive, with a drive shaft. It still runs great, but adapting a new motor to it, probably would be a little more difficult, I probably would have to rebuild the 18hp Briggs. Maybe someone might have a video "just in case" I ever had to change the engine, on how to adapt one of the new motors to a drive shaft type tractor.
I have been watching a few videos on your channel so far. But have you come across any Lowe's branded lawnmowers yet? I have yet to see someone bring back a Lowe's lawnmower from the late 80s. My dad had one as his first lawnmower that he bought brand new in early 1989. Kept that lawnmower for over 12 years. I think it had a single cylinder Briggs with a 38 inch deck.
I always remembered folks calling those older Murrays cheap and unreliable. The cheapest lawnmowers can be the most reliable if taken care of properly. That old Murray is a beaut. Glad you got it back and running again.
I agree! The same ones who complain are usually the same ones who don't do maintenance !
The first thing I would have done is put a new spindle on the right hand side if it turned out square with the tie rod end. And forgot about the tie rods. Just grease them and leave them alone.
I didn't have just a spindle. That's why it got an entire front end.
In general, I don’t like kids, but that little munchkin is way cute! As long as he doesn’t yell every time he asks a question, I’d actually enjoy hearing and seeing your interaction with him in the workshop. As the years go by, including creators kids in the videos becomes part of the history of the channel and I suspect increases engagement as well. Plus it’s great to see folks actually parent their offspring and share their workshop environment. That’s how they learn and how to improve your connection with them in a meaningful way. ❤️
Audio is light years better, Levi! Good going! I watch many other small engine channels and by far the single most common criticism I have is poor audio quality. For that reason I would really appreciate a detailed video of the exact equipment you’re using so I can refer others. Short of that, would you please respond here with a list and links! Thanks! Also, FWIW, I personally appreciate as much explanation as possible about whatever you are doing. In this video you explained a lot of which I unaware, and you did it in such a way that it was all easily understood. This is the way how to videos should be done! 🔧👍
You were the person I was hoping would approve! Also, here's the link to mic I purchased( amzn.to/3AZjkJf ). They seem to work ok but a more expensive set will be bought in the near future.
@@LaidOffGarage Glad to help. Thx for the link. What’s wrong with this unit that you feel the need to upgrade already?
Kohler has been making quality engines for decades. The K series (301) in my IH Cub Cadet is 53 yrs old and starts right up every time 😊
Another great video. Glad you hired some help
He’s expensive and takes wayyyyy too many breaks ! Not to mention he’s always drinking on the job…
@ LOL. I know how that goes for sure
Do you know we're to get manual for 308-8 (1969)
The only 308-8s I know is of were made 86-88?
I work at Small Engine Warehouse. I'm also a Kohler fan. Glad to see one of our engines being put in a cool old machine!
Thanks for watching and subscribing !
My first look at the Kohler engine - the old Briggs rebuild could be a whole other video
Ive been impressed so far with it. I'm looking forward to seeing what all aftermarket parts will fit!
Been thinking about doing this with my old craftsman
Go for it!
Thanks for the audio fixes. Sounds good now!
Hey. Kind of a random question. Can you check what the carb specs are in that 11hp Briggs that you pulled out? Thanks from advance.
What are you needing to know?
@ the low and high needle jet mixture settings
Still commenting on this video to help the algorithm out…just keep on keeping on Levi
It ain’t much but it’s honest work !

I am really interested in the wheel horse
That’s no wheel horse that’s a wheel pony
Nice video, can you post a link to the fuel filters you use?
Sorry it took so long, Here ya go ! amzn.to/410RMOc
@@LaidOffGarageNo problem, I appreciate you following up. 👍
Love the doxie dog, made himself comfy in the chair at the very end! Watching you work made him tired!
awesome video.....should have posted it for $400!
Love it, now I'm on the propel for one lol! Still wanting a RJ
I've forever tried to find an affordable Lawn Ranger. Love the looks of the old hood, long frame, and small steer tires!
I have watched and enjoyed your videos. I am curious about some things. I'm sure you cleaned the battery cables before you attached them. Question: Why don't you spend 1 minute or less to clean off all they debris with a battery powered leaf blower? That's right 1 minute or less, Get a stop watch and time it. I did, and now every time I finish mowing, I spend a minute to blow off the tractor. You can always use the vacuum to get what you don't with the leaf blower. You may still need to use some compressed air for the hard stuff. Its a lot more pleasant to work on clean equipment.
Thanks for watching!
dont under stand why you did not pressure wash it off before you started working on it with all the dirt on it
To me it makes much more sense to get it fixed and drive it under its own power instead of cutting ruts across my driveway and yard by dragging it…..
"1 pothole from leaving the chat." Glad i watched to the end. Nicely done sir. I recently did a tranny in my 97 k1500. This gave me flashbacks, to doing it by myself.
Can you put the links in the bio for the starter kit?
It is……
What you use to clean the battery with what kind of wheel
I've tried to find a link to amazon but cannot. It's a 3M scotch brite bristle wheel. Works great at cleaning softer metals
what did you do with the transmission cooler lines? did u block them off at the radiator
Let them drain out and left them. Proper thing would be to remove at the rad and install plugs.
With a few more hours work you might have tripled that selling price.
I like quick turn arounds on my flip projects. The individual I sold it to will do exactly what you said though. He runs a small used mower shop. On a side note rein, Did you think my audio levels were a bit better this video?
I really enjoy the channel and glad it is growing
Really enjoy your videos! Can't wait for some more!
Gotta hit that subscribe button to stay up to date! Thanks for watching!
Yep! Already did a long time ago! @LaidOffGarage

I thoroughly enjoy watching you work on the forgotten/ abandoned machines. Keep doing what you're doing!
I’m glad to hear because I have a blast doing it!
Seems to be ok if engine is ok Just need a clean job and service 😊. No big money but every little bit helps 😊
