  • Using what scrap I have, I fabricate a spare tire carrier for my cheap trailer. I also install a remote winch to make tractor rescues easier!
Badland ZXR 2500lb winch is from Harbor Freight

It's called CAD. "Cardboard Aided Design". Something every fabricator should have in their tool box.

You need a snatch block...doubles the pulling capability of your winch...even though you have to spool out 2x the cable...however, that one seemed to do just fine w/i issue!
Very cool! I need to get a trailer like that!
    Keep em coming!!!!

The tire mount looked very good only concern I have if trailer sits outside that angle iron is up and it will hold water

You said it, that trailer was one of the best investments you’ve ever made. I agree 100%. I bought a little 6 x 10 trailer from tractor supply maybe going on three years ago and it has been a fantastic piece of equipment. I bought a spare tire for it, but throw it in the back of the truck or van whenever I use the trailer, but I need to mount on the trailer itself like you did. And I really like the winch install. Like you, I’ve gone and gotten some big garden tractors that didn’t run with flat tires and fought them up on the trailer too many times now. Great idea and great job job! Thanks for posting!

I highly recommend the winch I bought for it! Stupid simple to install and wire up. It’s one of those tools that you don’t always need but you’ll be glad you have it if you ever do !

I have this same trailer. It has been a gold mine for me. One cheap mod that I did was enclose the sides with expanded metal mesh. This way I don't have to worry about losing firewood, parts, etc out of the sides. One 4x8 sheet of metal mesh took care of it if I remember correctly.

look for a small truck box, weld-on a couple of angle irons and mount-it to the front. put the battery/straps/tools in it.

This video came up in my feed and is what brought me to your channel.
I just got a free trailer recently that needs some work but is in usable condition except it’s enclosed across the rear instead of having a ramp. The ramp mod, a trailer hitch for my van and a winch are the first things on my to do list.

Compared to my garage workshop you’ve got a huge amount of room and a few of the tools I wish I had.
Parts washer, sand blaster and sand blast cabinet, full size compressor, electric welding equipment, long workbench, vice with locks on both sides, electric overhead door, huge tool cabinet, movable grinder…

Those old Wheel Horses are great units. I only get Craftsman & a few John Deeres in my area. Nice upgrades on the trailer. I am still using my boat / utility conversion trailer to pick up tractors & just about everything else LOL. I added the same HF winch to my trailer. I use a battery jumper to power it. But I generally use the manual boat winch that I never took off.

I have almost the same trailer and last year did almost the same modifications. You will find the spare mount NEEDS a brace to the bottom rail, the top rail is too flexible by itself. For a winch I used a cheap hand crank boat winch, mounted outside the front of the trailer so I could still haul a 4x8 sheet. Than I drilled a hole in the top rail directly over the brace ahead of the spare to drop a tire iron into. Almost a guarantee my vehicle wrench wouldn't fit. Also added a cheap trailer jack to the front, easier on the back if I need to park it while loaded.

  • @billyhaddock5540

Great Job, on mounting the tire and wrench. I think that u could weld-on a piece of steel on the tire mony bottom to help keep it on.
also noticed that u will need to bring the wrench mount up alittle to keep the wire from hitting the trailer at the end.

  • @Ryanlk69
    @Ryanlk69 6 месяцев назад +2

Not that it's necessary. But I'd weld a D ring directly above the winch and get a little snatch block and run the winch cable to the D ring. Doubles pulling power and a little less strain on the battery.

Here is something to think about! I just hit a tire mounted on a wheel in the middle of an interstate highway! It was after dark and I had limited time to make a decision what to do. Thinking it was a slab of tread from a truck tire, I just straddled it, but that was the wrong decision! Result to date : Over $17,000 damage to the underside of my vehicle! This is why you must be certain your spare is mounted securely and equipped with a safety cable!

You need to mount some kind of an air compressor put a basket across the front where your tongue tongue is mount some type of electric air compressor make some bottle jacks, put an air nozzle on upside down to where you can use the air compressor to raise your trailer up when you do get a flat change the tire

It works great on 110 on thinner metal. I had really turn it down to keep it from blowing the breaker. I’m hoping to get the 220 up and running in the next week or so. For the price I highly recommend it!
