I always remembered folks calling those older Murrays cheap and unreliable. The cheapest lawnmowers can be the most reliable if taken care of properly. That old Murray is a beaut. Glad you got it back and running again.
New here, I got a 1974, c160. Got no deck. Had to replace all electrical components. Charges battery now. Got a rotten deck for 80 bucks. Cut 4 years with it. Got a new deck. No holes. Sanded paint n then greased underneath. Painted top. Then greased spindles, and entire area under 2 covers. Repaint entire trackor in spring. I like it.
Well I checking out u tube and seen this video. My Dad worked at Murray 38 years until he retired, he also worked on them after he retired. Great memories of that mower and others he would fix for people.
I have been a auto mechanic for many years. when Murry first came out in the eighties people said they were junk. today everything is disposable junk. these older machines stood the test of time. my hobby is small engines. the older the better in my book.
These old tractors, were built to LAST, and Crap they make nowadays is made so cheap, and breaks if you fart on it practically. I myself, have a 93/94 Craftsman, 12.5HP, 38" Hydro riding mower, and it runs like an absolute monster! I'll use it as long as it runs! I just found your channel, and threw you a sub man! Awesome work on the mower, and great video. : )
Thanks for the follow! I’m glad you like the channel. It’s a work in progress for sure. And I agree completely. I’d take a $300 old one over a new $2k+ one any day.
My first lawn tractor was a Murray 16hp back in the mid 90s. In 2004 I thought I was upgrading to a 24hp craftsman turned out the Murray would out run and out cut the craftsman. Not to mention the craftsman rode like a tank. Loved my Murray.
I have a Murray identical to this one except mine has a twin cylinder motor I got it running a couple years ago but haven't Revisited it since I did this makes me want to go out there and get it cranked up again
Story time! Bought a 308-8 Wheelhorse off a feller and he claimed it had a slight knock. Decided to start it so I could hear the noise myself. Had I had this camera I could’ve scoped through the oil fill and spotted the missing main cap nut. Ended up breaking the block when the rod came apart shortly after starting it. Rip to that 8hp Kohler
Make sure to cover the positive to the battery... i didnt on mine it shorted and melted the post's, thought id be ok to test it out... ive got the v-twin with a different hood and hydrostatic runs and cuts better then a lot ive had
My brother had a mower that looked just like this one but he's was a little older. He's was a 11 HP 36 inch cutt ans the clutch was on the left and the brake was on the right.
I’ve had a 416H with a grader blade and a 308-8 with a 40” dozer blade. My 314h diesel will be getting its winter outfit with a 48” dozer blade and weights here soon. I’m planning on making a video about it when the time comes. As far as those ag tires go, I’ve got a resto mod under way that will be coming to the channel soon. Thanks for watching !
A lot of people, (myself included), will buy the $10 aftermarket alternative opposed to the sometimes pricey OEM part. If I see an OEM maintenance part, I assume it’s either an original part, or the owner was loyal to the brand. I’ve seen quite a few Wheelhorse branded oil filters. And they stopped making those close to 20 years ago lol!

I agree! The same ones who complain are usually the same ones who don't do maintenance !
I’ve never been much of a Murray fan, but I do like those older style ones. IM JEALOUS, GREAT FIND! I would buy that mower from you!
Same here. I normally stick with the horses but it’s hard to pass up a unique buy like this one
Sweet mower , great shape for its age !

Sounds like a good solid tractor now!
I have the same tractor. Runs and cuts great!

Well then there’s a chance your dad had a hand in building this one then!

Makes me wonder how many of today’s mowers we will be seeing in 30 years …. Not many I’m guessing !
No doubt they're better.
Wow! That thing looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. Nice tractor!
Very Nice Mower.
My uncle had one like his was a 88 year with a ohv tecumseh engine on it.good job getting the mower running.😊
I have a 1976 rear engine 8 hp 30 inch deck Murray, it belonged to my grandparents. I havent had it running for a few years.
Love them old girls💪🏾
Those briggs engines are darn near bulletproof

@@LaidOffGarage you bet, man! Can't beat the equipment that was actually built to last a lifetime versus the throw away trash they sell now! Haha
What a great find
I have a lot of them just setting because I don’t have time to fix them 😢
awesome video, the colour looks like deep candy red metalic which is the most exspensive car paint you can get.
i cut alot of grass with one them and it was also the first mower i ever flipped on top of me to ..lol.. lessons were learned that day.
Education is expensive ! Thanks for the comment
Those old Murray’s were a well built machine
Best mower still in America 😊😊😊

Hard to beat the classics!
I’ve allways had good luck with the Chinese carbs for the amount they are no complaints nice tractor it allways liked the old Murray tractors
I’ve had more good luck than bad luck with them ! In some cases it’s the only option to keep these old machines running
I have a Murray identical to this one except mine has a twin cylinder motor I got it running a couple years ago but haven't Revisited it since I did this makes me want to go out there and get it cranked up again
No time like the present! Let me know if you get it going again!
Good job, I enjoy posts like this restoring/ fixing lawn tractors, thumbs up & I subscribed, cheers !
Thank you!
That hand held video camera is cool idea.i might have to get one.😊

My Murray is a 10/30. 92. Model original and so reliable, one battery and a belt in 33 years, under a tarp in Scottish weather😮
That’s extremely impressive ! Thanks for the comment.
Good to see another video Levi…I’m just alil behind today, at least the Irish won today
That’s cool 👍
I should have kept my ole murrey mower this was like when kmart sold them 💪
I see them every once in a while on marketplace. Never too late to get another !

Looked like a new one at the end of the video.
It cleaned up very well!

Show lot new look and operation.
Great job!
I seemingly can't wait to see what you do with them Ag tires in the back grown. ???.
Today?!. 21 Sept 24. We got some drought releave in TN, Thank God.
Maybe I'll get some fun time riding on my mower soon? Lol!!!
Do you have gound engagement tools for your wheel horse? I have some for my Husqvarna lawn garden tractor.
Just sharing.

Pretty cool.
👍👍👌👌 Thanks for the video!
Nice 👍.
Good Video, You didn't show it on the video. Did you give it a lube job, When you pulled the front tire off the axil looked dry.
my murray is completely same but its with 11 hp briggs stratton
Wondering if that Murray is for sale? I'm pretty sure you're close to me sir 😊
It only lasted a day on marketplace before a buyer showed up. Evidently he thought it was in great shape as well lol!
She's pretty, like you just rolled it out the lawn and garden department at Walmart.
I couldn’t believe how solid it was! Previous owner took great care of jt
Great barn find!
So now you know - don’t narrate while driving with your current audio/video equipment! 😉😂👍
Yeah I need to upgrade for sure. I’ll gladly take suggestions !
We have become a throwaway society. Sadly, China makes parts for an old mower like this and the US doesn't or costs 10X the money.
Thankful they make them because the greedy company in America made junk 😊😊😊

0:31 Why is a genuine briggs air filter funny people replace with original equipmentall the time? Just wondering.
Some replacement parts these days just don't fit or work out of the box. Or just aren't made anymore.
DIY is being away with.
@@earlsshow8966 you are so right and they sure don't make things like they us to. And loved the video thank you for posting and also a new subscriper
