The water weight loss happens right at the start, when your glycogen stores are getting empty and you loose the water than is held with it. Everything afterwards is mainly fat loss. First 24 hours of not eating is fine, the big problem for most people is probably the first night with hunger. Also basic stuff like putting a bit of salt into your water to mitigate electrolyte losses and the headache that can come with it. I found one 24h fast per week when I want to loose a bit of weight the easiest way.

You know, people think you can't perform on carnivore, or low carb either. You can if you've adapted to it. They don't have studies on people who've adapted to it, they have studies on people who changed their diet immediately for the study, and screwed themselves up. The real pit fall that you have to deal with on low carb, or carnivore is not wanting to eat enough. Without carbs, you are not hungry enough, and that's what makes training hard in my experience. It's easier to eat rice to get glucose than it is to eat an extra beef. It's not really optional for me. I have too many chipped teeth, mental health issues, and too many intestinal problems that occur when I eat carbs. So until I stop making progress, I'm not gonna look at fucking with it.

It amazes me how much time I save during the day when I do longer fasts. So much time is spent in the kitchen cooking for me. Sometimes I’ll find myself just standing in the kitchen leaning on the counter bored. I also always struggle with breaking the fast and not going off the deep end. Two weeks ago I fasted for 3.5 days and then decided to try keto for a few days after, but it wasn’t long until I broke and started binging on everything in sight. Seems like the best thing for me is to do a longer fast and then start tracking calories every day and allowing myself to eat more carbs later in the day.

I always train fasted! I always found I'd get so bogged down and groggy if I eat before training. The pumps are much better whilst training fed, and I get warm quicker, but overall I just prefer the feeling of training with an empty stomach then to be all bloated and whatnot. I also have hit all of my PR's fasted for what it counts. I used to experiment a lot with multi day fasts when I wasn't experienced as a lifter, but I'd be interested in trying those out once more to hit some different weighted chin-up/dip goals.

Currently on a 7 day fast for health, and you are 100% right. This is my second one(Unlike you I am obese and insulin resistant). However, this second fast is infinitely easier than the first one. Also right now the current perception of a lot of fastings benefits seem to be on the mitochondrial side in mammals generally, and that if you keep your calories low for two weeks mitochondrial quality seems to stay doubled versus normally and the quantity also doubles(Unfortunately no human studies yet just mammals.) Just wanted to share that because all my biomarkers are a lot better due to it. On the muscle loss section, a lot of this has been caused by Dr. Peter Attla, who does not like extended fasting due to the effect on muscle, but he is also taking statins because of family/genetic risks. So it makes sense he is not gaining back some muscle for a while as testosterone literally doubles on refeed and other hormones shoot up, and then anti inflammatory measures knock inflammation down significantly to levels lower before the fast for certain ones(Because they spiked during it), and then other ones that went down during it significantly decrease AGAIN. Statins mess with that process a ton, so I guess you should take his claims probably not seriously. For the source on testosterone, check out the channel What I Have Learned video on it, and for the mitchondrial side of things, check out Psyonics video on it, through discussing new types of drugs vs diabetes(Not Ozempic, one based in the mitochondria.) I am going to be learning how to make high quality videos with good storytelling to try to talk about this journey and all of the setbacks, psychical, mental, social and everything else in 6 months once this is done. Once I get access to a gym and am light enough, I want to start working out due to the noble natties including you . I will be able to be more articulate and in detail in a video vs this comment on a phone. Thanks for your content, you have been an inspiration with the unorthodox approach and once I get strong enough on the Deadlift/RDL/ Jefferson curls, I wamt to see what the one arm deadlift and other lifts can do, and same with a lot of weirder lifts. I have been stalking youtube fitness for the last 10 years and failing, and these last five have been so productive, because of me evolving my worldview and approach closer to the truth each time, and I have learned so much about thatdue to people like you, NH, Alex Leonidas, GVS, BOM, Alec Enriki, and Basement Bodybuilding. You guys have given me hope that I can make a change in myself, which I had almost lost hope especially after I got suckered by Greg Doucette. Thank you for the well founded hope, and Godspeed on your bulk!

The other day I ended my first multi day fast, I didn't lose strenght but cardio felt worse, I had some troubles with sleep quality but always managed to fall asleep. That said I am quite fat so that may be the reason. I also started taking creatine and while fasting I took salt and a multi vitamin/mineral pill marketed to 50 year old women so I don't know how much it helped.

@@atlaspowershrugged In the supermarket there many "low sodium" salts with potassium replacing some of the sodium. Dirt cheap, one shaker will probably last for a lifetime of fasts (just calculate the RDA of potassium or 20mEq/day and get the rest from regular table salt). Just because it's easiER to lift one way, with one piece of equipment, doesn't mean it's EASY, and therefor suitable for people with injuries or weakness. To be fair, I haven't trap bar deadlifted in months. Conventional and deficit deadlifts with a barbell are where it's at.
