    i did 10 day fast. I wished to do 14 day fast but it got psychologically tough and didnt want to deal with it anymore. I lost 10 pounds of fat and have maintained that ever since. fasting is really good for fat lost and most people scoff at not eating because they are addicted to food and think your body is unable to handle not eating for more than 24 hours.

    Wish I had seen this when I was fasting in February! Really good, practical approach to fasting. The health and fitness space is full of strange diet cults so I appreciate you talking about fasting as the logical progression of CICO. From February to July I did 1-5 day fasts, mostly 3 day until I got to my goal waist and adonis belt back. Just did as long as I could tolerate, if I felt bad after a day I called it there and ate. If I was feeling particularly strong after a day I try to push it to 5. Sounds like you stuck to normal, all day eating when you refeed rather than a big refeed meal and going straight back to fasting. Did you try doing both? Personally I stuck to just normal eating on my eating days since the word "refeed" sounds like the first step to a binge eating disorder.

    Perfect, started a 3 day fast today based off this recommendation. It's the video I was asking for all this time, thank you very much for your content. Going to see how this one goes and maybe do 2 a month if it's not that painful. Going to buy the book today too, cheers.
    EDIT: Did the fast, cheated a little because I didn't want to waste food, was just a bit of steak, few hundred calories, still dropped 4kg over the 3 days. very happy. Will do again in 2 weeks or so. until then ill stay just under maintenance to keep chugging along.

    Interesting take on 16/8 being a gateway to other fasting methods. I more or less wrote off 16/8 as a strategy for fat loss but still use it as a general 'this is a normal day' strat.
    Conversely, I really like multiple 24hr fasts during the work week. I feel alert and it definitely works for fat loss (note: if you don't hard in the paint on food choices when you restart). Never tried longer than 24hrs unless I was forced to via sickness.

    Longest I did was 3 days, or maybe just under I forget. I kept tasting my stomach juices from my empty stomach and clear sinuses. Never got past that. 4 impresses me.

    Did a 14 day one back in 08. Pretty neat. Was fairly useless for a week or two after, but overall enjoyed it. No wife or kids at that point though. Was also camping in paradise which helped a lot

    I've previously always been a slim kid but now at nearly 25 I'm probably around 20% body fat and literally just earlier today was thinking I should do my first cut. So good timing on the video :).
    A multi day fast sound so scary for someone that's never done that but I guess our ancestors didn't get to eat every day in the savannah so I probably won't die?

      I agree. Fast and feast is one way. Salty water fast. I've worked up to 2.5 day dry fast no nothing, no water. But go easy. Listen to signs. Don't work and do this right away. Go slow. Take a break. Focus on good clean foods. Saturated fat is my savior for cravings

  • @michiel5160
    @michiel5160 2 месяца назад

    I did about a 16h fast for years. I also ate very clean that time and got really lean.
    I started with skipping breakfast but it wasn't for me: too nervous and weak during the mornings and too full to sleep well. Not eating past 5pm or so was way better (same amount of food, just different timing).
    I also did some longer fasts, the longest was 60h I think. I was around 5% at the time and this fast on top made me crazy hungry. I went into 4 months of junk eating and fasting after that. Gained 14 kg in this period. BF, lifts and hydration all went up.
    Eventually stopped intermittent fasting, bc I had to train pretty late and having no food after that made me pretty dehydrated and sore the day after.
    Main benefit is that you realize skipping a couple meals or days won't mean you'll lose all your muscle. Just another tool in your toolbelt.
    I also didn't feel like I had to adapt to a 16h fast (at least not if I had breakfast). When I do some longer ones, it basically gets worse for me the longer the fast lasts. Just bc of dehydration.

    Would be incredibly interested in the fasting book and diet/nutrition/mental strategies around longer fasts. I've been through a wide range of approaches to weight loss and fasting seems to be the least invasion on a families lifestyle. I can push through a few days of no food so that I'm not altering the rest of the families intake.
    Would just be helpful to see practical guides/info

    I confirm fasting remedies not counting calories. Outside i'm 80% shirtless now. Even with my fat 23%. I was embarrassed to be shirtless in the past. My first time outside shirtless at my home at night. Drunk neighbor in his truck stopped and said put a shirt on..... or don't. And sped off. He went 2 doors down, he is an ass drunk or not. Fasting gets the insulin down and allows muscle to better develop. This was my problem for life. 40 years of skinny fat and then fat fat later in life. I worked out a little and was always active. but had no look of muscles showing. Getting insulin down, for me, muscle just shows up a bit. Then working out it obviously works more. I love a 2 day fast. That's my jam and feels very good. Every few months.

    The difference between 14/16/23/24 or anything less than a full day is moot. Rather than speaking about eating windows, I think it's better to speak about eating moments when it comes to building good eating habits. You could do breakfast/dinner and skip lunch and still be in the clear.

    I did 3 days of fry fasting and my blood ketones were a 6.0. I'm not fat adapted either. Dry fasting is much more efficient than the standard water fasts. I am about to do a 9 day dry fast next week.

    What’s interesting to note is that I believe if your hormone profile is already healthy then a fast is going to be more beneficial. Fasting for me hasn’t been useful as I get jittery and my face and extremities swell up. Eventually I got to the bottom of it and it seems like I had a testosterone/cortisol/estrogen imbalance with an underworking thyroid, which fasting seemed to exacerbate. Not to say that fasting isn’t useful (because studies have shown that there are undeniable useful benefits), but I think the hormonal environment first must be solid

    • @evankalis
      @evankalis 2 месяца назад

      The fasting helps to regulate hormones themselves.

    • @andrewcoates4952
      @andrewcoates4952 2 месяца назад

      @@evankalis yes and no, whilst fasting does have many benefits which are known about, it does also raise your cortisol (which incidentally turns any free testosterone into estrogen) and doing this has a tendency to break your body down to supply itself with sugar

      What I enjoy and I believe atlaspowershrugged recommends as well is bone broth. It’s easy to digest. I would advise against breaking extended fasts with heavier meals because the sudden spike in blood sugar and shifts in electrolyte levels* can cause big health problems. Always break with something light and gentle on the digestive system
      Edit: it was beef broth

    • @atlaspowershrugged

      I recommend some beef broth first. About an hour later start with some lean ground beef. Get into carbs or higher fats the next day

    i will be doing my first fast in a couple of days after i finish my 3month gigga cut to make the last bit of room for my next bulk (i have limited time to do this since i am joining the military in 2 weeks). a 3day fast. And i just cant decide if i should be taking creatine on it. Are you taking creatine while doing a prolonged fast? also i am assuming that organic sugar is off the table since it has calories in it.. i fucked up and bought my magnesium+potassium suplements containing it...
    is there anything that i should be vary about doing a 3d fast? besides having to slowly re-intreduce food
