I've learned that most people simply don't try hard enough, long enough.

I think it was GVS that was talking about something similar and said something along the lines of. "If you haven't been lifting hard for at least 10 years then you aren't anywhere near your genetic ceiling." There are a lot of people worried about how their genes effect their ability to make gains, but haven't even put in the work yet. Then when they don't see the results in 3 months they either quit or get on the juice.
I don't think just 3 months, people spend years making mistakes. It's very heartbreaking to realize you have been spinning your wheels for so long, I think that's what leads to people cursing genetics, juicing, or quitting.
Naturals have Schrödingers genetics. Our genetics are both good and bad depending on the measurement of the observer and of course the relevant size of the observer in relation to the subject, although relatively tells us that the speed at which the observer progresses relative to the subject plays a role in their measurements as well.
I postulate a natural doesnt have good or bad genetics, he has a superposition of both, and the measurement, his good or bad genetics, comes into existence only in the exact moment the observer compares his mass and rate of progress to the subject, and only then can we know if the subject is a guy thats bigger than me and making progress too fast so obviously hes a fake natty, or if hes smaller than me and doesnt even make good progress then hes the epitome of natty cope with bad genetics.
lol
I also watched that NH video
😶🌫️😊🙃👀
As a person who has read books for the layman about quantum mechanics, I can confirm that this is indeed true.
I seem to remember Gregory getting schooled on this same topic a few years back by alpha destiny.
I disagree with Gregory’s claim that most popular natty lifters have elite genetics plenty of people get into lifting to gain strength and size as they lack both. But with years and years on top of years of training they achieve great results
Secondly Gregory is forgetting how adaptable the human body and mind is. In ancient times we didn’t have machines to do the seriously heavy lifting and had to do everything by hand the human body is capable of all kinds of things depending on the necessity.
But most importantly I would never take lifting advice from a hobbit on gear
"Gregory" lol
Hobbit on gear kills
Mfw the 4' tall Jewish guy blasting gear his whole life starts talking about his superior genetics 😐
I wonder what his reaction would be if I (a German) talked the same way?
Everyone's roasted this man for his genetics nonsense, alphadestiny, freakieD, vitruvian physique, GVS too. He is still peddling the same nonsense.
@@chaosdisciple3052 Seriously, no offense to the jews but they arent really known to be the pinnacle of athleticism.
this fucking genetics talk sometimes borders on eugenics. Not only is the term “genetics” largely undefined and nearly empty to a lifter (for example, people talk about better muscle growth out of the same training but also sometimes better individual muscle group response but you could also have better limb structure for a given movement etc) but also it just simply isnt true that the genetic natural physiques on social media are somehow superior to every other genetics.
Eric Helms for example, manage to get a pro card with less muscle on his frame than we typically see on natural bodybuilders. Alberto Nũnez had a lagging back until he implemented some changes to his training and made massive improvements. Geoffrey got way more impressive even after years of lifting. NH did a crazy recomp but it took three years. Alex benched 405 while weighting circa 200lbs I think, BOM got crazy arms for a guy with such long limbs, Brian de Costa’s looks incredible but his volume is also crazy. Hersovyac looks like a Greek statue while having had to go through surgery and with “suboptimal” training. For all arguments about their “superior” genetics, you can point to a long, slow, progressive system designed to make them better than they were.
If youre still in your first years of training, dont listen to this nonsense, focus on the variables that you can control (eating, sleeping, training) and watch your physique transform to a way you never thought before.
I 100% agree with you. The constant talk about genetics, especially in bodybuilding circles, REALLY feels like eugenics.
Eugenics is just selective breeding for certain traits it could be good or bad and it will happen whether it's guided or not but I think guided is the better option personally
Correct people don't understand genetics. Nice examples I didn't know
It definitely gets to old time eugenics territory. Easiest example is the "blacks have the best genetics for muscle building" or "when it takes 5 years of consistent training and dieting to look like a black guy that never touched a weight". It's both condescending and incredibly racist but no one cares enough to say anything cuz it's somehow flattering supposedly.
Either the kkk or nazis or some such have had a reign on the lifting culture long enough for this to be so pervasive and its annoying.
@@111kino The "black people have more muscle and are more athletic and stronger" stereotype definitely comes from slavery, the perception of black people as "beasts" or "animals" rather than normal humans. While back then these sorts of comments were either an insult or justification of treating africans as "less", when used nowadays, specifically when taking into account the whole historical context of the enslavement of africans by europeans, nowadays saying that about black people is just fetishisation, which is still racist. Yes, different broad racial groups and ethnicities have a few differences and are genetically more adapted to certain environments but there's not one singular superior race or ethnicity. People who say that shit are not only racist because they can't put all ethnic or racial groups on the same level, deserving of equal opportunities, rights and respect but also because they really can't see certain groups as actual normal people, they see them as objects, tokens, symbols, instead of individuals with their own thoughts, emotions, needs, desires. And I do believe that the historical poisoning of sport and fitness spaces by far-right groups has helped the eugenics-esque mentality prevail in sports and fitness circles.
Even If you have poor genétics for building muscle, it doesnt matter. Anyone can have a decent physique and become stronger. It just may take more time.

Genetics has the same role in lifting as religion in life: just as god has been used as an axiomatic answer to plug in when we don't have an answer to a question, genetics is used when no real answer can be given. Every time someone uses genetics as the reason someone has or hasn't got their results, the correct follow up question should be "what genes and what part of your genetic makeup"? Of course, nobody can actually answer this question with anything else than a No-true-Scottsman answer of "if they have good results, they must have good genes".
Exactly
One thousand percent agree with you - naturals absolutely train differently than enhanced. I feel like I have do 3x the volume as enhanced.
That's what greg's voice is trying to tell you.
I disagree with your counterargument that we have to check their genes to know if they have good genetics. Of course, popular natural bodybuilders on social media have good genetics, because the system favors good genetics. It's like saying a 100m runner with a 10s time has average genetics because we didn't know their genes
I also don't agree that the ability to build muscle is the only criteria for good genetics:
- Muscle insertions
- Frame (hip-to-shoulder ratio)
- Ability to lose weight
- Consistency in training (erratic natures have a disadvantage)
- Enjoyment of bodybuilding
- Susceptibility to injury
Years ago, I thought all the top e-sports players were all just naturally good at the games they choose to compete in. I realized later that a lot of those "talented" players were just people who spent hours upon hours upon hours playing and getting better. The point is that the better you get at your craft, the better your genetics or "innate ability" becomes.
I watched his response video about the 315 bench. And while I agree that most people will not bench 315 in their life, it’s not because they physically can’t, but most people just aren’t going to work hard enough AND figure out programming smart enough to reach it. But, I truly believe that every single male COULD bench 315 if they tried. Sure it might take longer for some than others, and while it is an impressive bench, no matter who you are, it’s not some groundbreaking earth shattering number that’s limited by genetics. That’s like a 500 to 600 bench
I agree, coach Greg does default to the, "they have elite genetics" talk. Greg misses the point, most people that lift end up satisfied with medium build physiques. Not every one lifting wants to be an ifbb pro. I think it's a small demographic that thinks they wanna get ultra huge. I say, think they wanna get huge, cuz I thought I wanted to look like a bodybuilder when I was a really skinny kid. Once I put on muscle at a medium build I found myself pleasantly satisfied with the muscle I put on.

I definitely agree with the message that you probably need to dial in expectations if you started small. I’ve been training “correctly “ for 8 years. I’ve been type “A” obsessive since day 1. But honestly as long as I’m building something I don’t really care how much I build. Each year I see a difference but it’s nothing crazy. This year I’ve had the most compliments. I’m the most jacked I’ve ever been. I train like gvs. Everything has been to failure or past. No rir crap. I lift like an animal and I can maintain a low body fat with little effort.. the only strength genetically that I have besides just general athletic ability but I’m never going to blow you away with my muscle genetics. I have tiny bones and joints. But that hasn’t kept me from enjoying the process . Each year I do make gains. Not as much as I’d like compared to some other people, but I can look in the mirror and say I never made any excuses. I want to be clear I love what I have achieved, i look like I lift but atlas, gvs, and most RUclipsrs would blow me away and I do think genetics play a role in that. You can’t deny that in my opinion. Most if not all lifting RUclipsrs look better than most and have excelled more than most. But I agree 100 percent with the, “poor genetic excuse when you haven’t put in 5,10,15 years of dialed in training. Once you reach year 10 and 15 and you don’t train half ass, then you can say you have bad muscle genetics but I promise you anyone that puts time into this sport will look better every year. Stop comparing yourself to people. I think it’s stupid. Me vs Me is my philosophy. Go hard or go home. At year 15 I’ll look better than year 8. Just comes down to expectations.
People underestimate how rare it is to have really bad genetics (assuming we're working with a bell curve model which I believe is suitable for physical attributes). We suck at conceptualising probabilities and Greg Doucette capitalizes on that (he's not stupid).
Of course, this is barring which genetics we're even talking about. Is it endurance? Is muscle building potential? Is it resilience? Is it insertions? Is it frame size? Is it recovery capacity? Is it mental perseverance? You have to be unique to suck at all at the same time.
I haven't seen many with bad muscle building genetics

The volume's way better now.
Even if a viewer does have “bad genetics”, what exactly does knowing that info change? Short of giving up, the only thing you can do is work hard, work around your weaknesses, and continue to improve. You would’ve had to do that even if you had great genetics. No, I think what Greg is doing is convincing his audience that they have bad genetics, and that his BS supps are the remedy to that. He’s literally negging his audience into buying his pills. It’s like a low level pickup artist tactic, and it’s really damn cringe.

I honestly cant tell whether my 24 FFMI is a result of hard work for 6 years or the effect of good genetics since ive built it by only doing compound exercises and prioritizing strength above all.

Leaving a comment for the algorithm. Also, I've always thought this narrative to be absolutely ridiculous; a lot of people like to say how genetics are important, because years ago they got sat down by some "аuthority" figure that told them how they are not seeing results because its in their nature to be a weakling and a nobody, and its completely ok to be the bottom of the barrel, and how you should just accept your circumstances. Basic psychology supports his last assertion. It is highly statistically more likely that those that have more success naturally are more likely to stick with it, work harder at it and yes make videos about it. People who don’t get results don’t video it.

I don’t know why anyone wants to look like a bodybuilder anyways. Work towards being fit, healthy, and having functional strength. Being toned, agile, and strong. Anyone can achieve that regardless of genetics. Looking super chiseled and aesthetic is inferior in my opinion.
"Genetics" is just a sciencey sounding stand in for talent.
I stopped watching greg after his time after time criticizing natty or not. It's not helpful to the conversation. His motto of harder than last time is great. I love it. I don't think we need to find the gene to say if someone good genetics we just look at muscle bellies leverages rate of muscle gain etc and of course personality traits such as dedication are 50% genetic all personality traits are even things like pain tolerance are genetic basically everything is genetic and the quality or lack thereof determines your entire life
There are definitely a lot of environmental factors involved in all of the above. Your body and brain adapts to whatever situation you put yourself in pretty well, including personality traits dedication pain tolerance etc. Saying "its 100% genetic so i basically dont have free will" is a ridiculous excuse. You wont be able to be at the top of anything without a good mix of genetics but you can get decently above average in most things thru pushing yourself and adaptation.
Yeah honestly this dude going about having your genes actually tested to look for a "muscle building gene" 🧬 is freakin' ridiculous. It is easy to tell when someone is gifted or not based on everything you mentioned.
Now that's not to say that you shouldn't try at all if you're not so gifted. You can absolutely build an awesome physique being average, it might just take double the work, double the time, & better consistency with diet adherence in comparison to someone who is more genetically blessed
@@jsedge2473 I don't believe in freewill 99% of the time you are as your father before
@@jsedge2473 That's not the point of what he was saying though. I think the coach guy is just saying don't expect to look like the people in instagram/youtube that half of them are not even natty. It's just survivorship bias obviously the best looking people are gonna probably be more famous and a lot of regular guys think if they have been at the gym for years and they don't look like that they have failed. Also from person to person you can objectively tell some genetic differences like some guys abs don't look good even despite trained and low bf or some guy has a dented chest or a chest that doesn't look really full and so on. That's what "bad" genetics means that you won't have perfect proportions or muscle insertions like some people do especially the ones you see online. I personally think that's a decent message accepting you won't have the elite genetics to look like a male model is important especially since younger people these days keep comparing themselves to online instagram people instead of people they see in their daily lives.
Ben pakulski is the only one I’ve ever seen look into this

I guess most of us are natty so Greg is trying to make sure we dont forget about him and the drug users....its weird. Most of us watch a lot of different youtubers and we know that the average channel has dudes on it that are out of the norm either due to drug use or genetics or whatever...We are mostly just looking for ideas to try out on our own...We dont expect to watch a video of a buff dude and suddenly be buff ourselves...
Genetics obviously play a very large role in what you're going to look like, but the only thing that we can actually look at and say "that's from genetics" is muscle insertions.
Some people have insertions that just make them look statuesque, and other people have very unfortunate insertions that even if they're huge, they just kind of look off.
But you can tell what your insertions are like if you have any noticeable muscle mass and are lean enough to see your muscles, so it's not something that you need to hypothesize about.
If two people have 18 inch arms but one looks better thats genetics, agreed.
Only thing I’ve ever been told you can eyeball genetically is muscle belly length. Like how close to the elbow joint the bicep inserts or how low the bottom of the lat inserts (Bruce Lee lats). How close to the ankle the calf inserts is a supposed good indicator of size potential. Still says nothing about muscle fiber composition. And this is purely anecdotal, I’ve never seen a study where this was measured rigorously and modeled in any capacity. Let alone controlling for past lifting experience.
Awesome as always
Audio is super quiet
I disagree that you need to do DNA tests to infer whether someone has good genetics. Most people follow the same old basic nutrition and lifting routines. It seems obvious to me that there are people who reach elite levels using just these basics. If the environment is more or less the same and you get these outliers the only explanation asides drugs is genetics.
I would agree however that a lot of people are flippant when saying XYZ person has good genetics. Often by the fact that they've acheived a high level automatically means they have good genetics without any consideration with how they got there.
Bro, cool video, but I had to turn up the volume to the max and still it's low.
Arent you overthinking it a little bit? Do you really think this is some kind of gregs plan to make people not listen to nattys?
