Vintage Keys is a Recording Studio in Romsey, UK, run by Session Musician, Sound Engineer and Producer Steve Christie who trained in the mid 1990s at Air Lyndhurst Studios, London. We host a a large collection of working vintage electronic and acoustic keyboard instruments, synths and equipment.
Previous (and current) clients of note have included Mark Pritchard, Adam F, Cubeatz, Warp Records, Sunbeam Records. In the past, Steve has worked for Sir George Martin, Giles Martin, Tony Visconti, Hans Zimmer, John Williams etc, when working as an assistant engineer at Air Studios.
We also own our own record label called Vintage Keys Records.
Our videos set out to be informative, but without bombarding the viewer with over-technical descriptions.

What a jewel
I refurbished a similar Super Continental ~12 years ago. It was the most unstable device I've ever worked on. Seemed every time one function was repaired, something else broke.
Sounds filling rude
A wall of synthesizers! Will you ever escape from the patch cable pit of despair! We’ll send food and Vimto.
love your playing
You’re getting some great sounds out of it already!
Richmond London or Yorkshire ? Anyway, I only really watch these videos to see what moniker you will go by. Slightly disappointed with Kevin Sewhinge(uh) - you really need to up your game.
I remember reading about a Miller valve church organ on a vintage radio repair & restoration website that I'm a member of. I think it had something like 128 valves in it. I wonder if it's the same one? A great channel, as ever. Cheers!
Nice Organ !!
It’s a shiny organ! I wonder what makes it ‘Continental’?
That is in amazing condition! Looking forward to the deep dive into the Vox. Well, used to say "inner gadder da-vidder" - brilliantly renditionized!
Awesome. We just bought a Teischord A. Nice little combo. Short keyboard so no nice low bass notes that get nasty.lol I got it all sorted out and recapped.
Hello Steve, that In A Gadda Da Vida Intro, was really Great !! Doug Ingle would have been very happy with that Continental Vox II 🎹.!!
What is it about in a gadda da vida... instant smirk mode. It's one of those things that's great and stupid at the same time. Like Blak Sabbath. Great rendition though as always.
Luv VOX sound I mean a B3 is a hot sound but that is an awesome keyboard!
Clean as a whistle!
Great stuff, lovely instrument. I spent roughly half the duration expecting you to give us a quick rendition of vintage Tony Hart's Vision On picture gallery music - my earliest vibraphone association. ruclips.net/video/-ZNkJXKV7_w/видео.htmlsi=dY2WH1MKkRpVXWGn
What musical genre is he playing on the keyboard? Ive been looking for type beats like these
Thank you for demonstrating all the potential sound configurations as I wasn't aware of many of them. We have owned this same rare model (serial 8388) since being purchased new for my sister's use in Germany, late 1970s. It still looks new and has fallen into my non-musical hands for disposal. I was planning to offer it to a charity shop but had to make it work properly first. I found, as you would have, that every single one of the 65 rocker, lever and pushbutton switches was assembled with a grease on the electrical contacts that degrades into a non-conductive film, and a small red rubber pad, intended to quieten the switch action, can drop into and jam the mechanism. I spent a week disassembling and cleaning every single switch with good results. But I still have one elusive fault where the Special Presets output VCA is working but not being enabled under any switch setting. It's not easy to troubleshoot having only the schematics from a later model. But now that I better understand the capabilities I'm more interested in finding a more deserving home for it.
Fantastic! Glad to be of help! They are wonderful organs and well worth the maintenance to get back up to speed. :)
Ok so that's what I hear on I Monster "Circus of deaf"
Вы добрый человек. И чертовски талантливый. У Вас любой инструмент играет вкусно. Спасибо за просвещение и всегда свежую информацию😊
Thank you very much! :)
Hi! This organ has an audio output in order to plug into a speaker ?
We no longer have this organ anymore, but I think there is a line out or at least a headphone out
Is this the one featured in The Packabeats’ “Theme From The Traitors” (“01:30)?
That sounds very much like it’s a Hohner Pianet on the Packabeats song. I haven’t heard any songs done by Joe Meek with a Selmer pianotron featured, but hoping someone will let us know! :)
@@VintageKeysStudio Yes, you’re most likely right.
Good evening. My name is Othello Reverbeo.
It looks like a fairly easy instrument to make. I am surprised someone isn’t remaking them.
The schematics for this thing are sooo hard to follow regarding the routing for all the tone mixdowns and tabs. It seems Farfisa just left bits out and you have to guess.
Yes it was common practice to just draw a vague map of where things were and on one tab or switch, and then just said ‘repeated’ but sometimes they didn’t mention the factory selected components - it makes it much more fun though
@@VintageKeysStudioIt has def been more fun having to join the dots and redesign parts rather than copy the design outright. Love your vids btw👍
Excellent video - great unit. Can you replicate the main guitar sound in Are ‘Friends’ Electric? with the Instant Flanger? It’s all over the Replicas album but I’ve not heard anyone manage to create the same sound. It’s also on the opening track of the same album transforming the distorted guitar sound to something approaching white noise.
Thank you! Yes I reckon so with this unit - I will hopefully try it sometime and report back!
fantastic! More, please. Actually, that song would be interesting to dissect the various sounds/sound effects. Somewhere in the song, there's something of a 'roar' that sounds like a bass drum-ish. In fact, quite a few sounds that sound like they may have come off the drums have another quality to them that make them sound not totally drum like. Maybe it was all of the caricature filtering that was used on the vocals? But I think they missed out on not having the M102!
I think a lot of it had something to do with May’s ‘Deacy amp’ - maybe they ran vocals through it to get that tonal quality? They maybe ran the drums through it too.
The reeds look like they are finished in gun blue, which isn't very rust resistant and needs to be kept wiped with oil, which would probably work against the sucking action of the rubber pads once the oil picked up some dust. I can see there is rust forming on some of those reeds, and if that rust scale grew to the pad contact area that would kill the sucking action too. It would seem that care of the reeds is important. If they got too rusty you'd have to remove the rust and refinish them somehow. I'd be looking at a light application of an automotive grade urethane, applied by fine spray very lightly so as not to affect the tone with the coating. Experimentation would be in order. Of course you could simply clean the rust by rubbing them with steel wool but that would only be a temporary fix because the rust would return before long.
Thanks very much for all the useful information! :)
I have one of these I obtained for the act of fetching it. One of the generators's notes is sick and gives a broken sound, but I have not wanted to repair it until I can determine what is at fault in order to hopefully replicate the sick note intentionally, because it's actually quite amazing sounding!
used to have one of these.. it's probably the most fun little lo-fi device I've ever had. spent countless hours playing around with it. I found it originally at a thrift store or something. been a long time now. can't even completely remember what happened to it but I've been wanting to replace it at some point but most of the prices online are outrageous. Just have to hope it crosses my path again some day I guess.
Yeah still after 36 years it’s my favourite little keyboard! :)
The orb of dreams...
I like how you demystify the complex look of the behringer oddessy to tweak out some weird cool sounds.
Thank you! :)
Your a glutton for punishment.
Thank you very much! :) @sergeyermolenko6034
??????
For those of us born in the late ‘40’s and ‘50’s, who were teenagers when this song was recorded, that music symbolises so much that was going on in music and fashion and even in social attitudes.......
Please make optigan disc bossa nova style
Great vid, I am almost sold on getting one!
More please Steve
Very similar to my Hammond X5. You going to run it through a Leslie?
It might be when it is returned to its owner :)
I am loving this channel.
For when you’ve had enough of Rachmaninov.
cool brother
That look was too wry, good sir
All the fingers.
That's what she said.
Chopin ?
Not particularly - made up, but probably pinched from him somehow
Slicin ?
I was thinking Tchaikovsky.
The look was on the beat! Nice! I heard that Rachmaninoff even got tired of that and used to say "oh that thing." 😅
Wow, that things amazing
Is this a physical tape loop or digital? Really nice and smooth. Reminds me of a possible sequel to the vocal loop intro to ELP's Tarkus. :-)
It’s a digital one found at random whilst doing some editing. I have Aquatarkus stuck in my head now :)
