I spoke to the guy who designed it and he said just general bc stability and reliability- it was his suggestion to cut the wires in order to service it. The fact that it has lasted 46 years and is pretty much perfect, aside from a few gradually failing pots is great I think.
I realy love this channel! Everybody on YT would redo the video because "the sound is rubish, the lav' is scratching or being muted by someting". But here , no. And the sound of it becomes a world of art, a part of the act . 👍
Wow ! Those scratchy mids seem very powerful and creative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this console. I loved the possibility to swap from a channel strip to a group channel. And also the rotative pot to choose the destination group : on old Tascam desks you have one push button per group... and they all fail one day or another. Good job Steve❤
Hello Steve, that was a very interesting explanation what you did about that awesome Console, and I also liked very much the "Prolapse Baguette" final musical theme too!!
Aaah, the eternal terror of owning old analog equipment. As a vintage Soundcraft owner I get my share of service hours. Each time I'm in the mood for recording something, there is a new fault going on.
Awesomes Steve, so many 'kerknobs' in one place! The Kerknob factory must be very pleased when the mixer company builds another batch of desks like this :0)
“ flipping “ wonderful & your presentation style is so refreshing as well very informative….you sir have more than earned my humble like, subbed and shared 😉👍 thanks mate….you’ve made my day a better place to be ✅
I’ve noticed “sync” routing switches on other studio recording consoles and still curious what this was for/ how it worked. I thought it related to switching channels b/t playback and record duties- and thus synchronizing particular channels to tape recorder tracks. Or maybe not. If you care to speak more about it, inquiring minds want to know.
Do you know what the thinking is behind linking the back of each mixer channel in groups of 8 with fixed wiring (bus bars)? to keep costs down, or improve reliability, (fewer plug in connection perhaps)? Seems a bit limiting for a big expensive item of pro equipment. @@VintageKeysStudio
I knew nothing about these things . i just used to look at them and immediately get a Headache.. Now However .. thanks to Mr Steve i know a miniscule amount about them .. which is good... I will never ever use one .. But i love this stuff and the channel..PS. Is Mr Freeman and his little workshop still across the yard ??
Oh no, he is unravelling before our eyes... I heard Abbey Road Studios had a special rope they would cover their microphones with, and authentic vintage rope goes for ££££ on the collector's market.
sorry to hear about your black eye, sounds like she was a bit of a pre-madonna. still got this hulking great lowrey citation in my living room which you'd be more than welcome to.
Hello dear Steve, really hope you are with good health, the darkness around your eyes made me a bit worried, as a homeopath and frequency tearapeut the eyes tells about Liver and kidney deficency with the eyes looking like that, so i hope you are well and just bumbed into the mixingdesk, or such =) Not a Revolt(a) =D,.. Thanks for shareing anout this mixingdesk
🎶….if i made them using green eggs & ham, would you still want scrambled, while sitting so nicely here next to me ? ( sorry mate,,couldn’t resist the temptation of writing a hit track with you 😅 ) again, your style is 👌

Thank you - yes we were trying out the new rode ME mics. Retakes are never as good the second time, so make a bad situation good with a little music

Thank you! :)
Thank you for providing this virtual tour around and below your D&R console. The wiring really seems to be a special hardwired one. All the best :-)!

Cool, thanks!

Thanks - Good question! Yes there will be a video on this very soon!
Must be a hell of a job swapping desks.
Yeah… months of reconfiguring and trying things out. They don’t just ‘work’ like modern equipment - they have to be kind of broken in

I'm slightly mesmerised by the colour tops of those pot knobs - are they formica ??
Could be!?
Uh-oh, those brown roederstein capacitors are notorious for shorting out with age, especially when they are in a warm environment.

Thank you! Not sure about mr freeman, but there is an organ place and an electrician nearby
Maybe one day can you show us the transformers?

This for sale in reverb?
Different one. That looks quite rough. It’s an enormous repair job to overhaul. I am midway through doing mine now. Its only taken 3 weeks so far

again, your style is 👌
Perfect! :)
Did you file assault charges?
"virtually useless"! i will use that next time someone asks why my Ghost doesn't have it's meterbridge!
somehow you have the ability to make me watch a video about something I really don't care about
Haha
Haha, great stuff!
