    How far should one extend their arms forward though? Should their elbows be in at their sides? Or is it fine to push forward almost making your arm extended fully towards the puck? I see a lot of goalie look like they're extending forward by maybe 50%?

    • @goaliestrength
      @goaliestrength 2 месяца назад

      You don't need to get excessive with it, but I personally like elbows further out than at the side. You don't want straight arms either, somewhere in the middle is ideal in my opinion.

    I break in all my gloves the same way, new or used, and they open and close like butter. First I soak the whole glove in hot water for a few minutes. If it's a used glove I'll add a deodorizer. Then I hang it up and let it drip dry. When it stops dripping I take 2 old t shirts and ball them up together and stuff them in the pocket. I put a puck in the palm with the edge of it against the closure point. I squeeze it tight and wrap and old skate lace around it and cinch it up tight. Then I put the glove in a zippered laundry bag and throw it in the dryer. I run it on low for about 20 minutes then go up to medium heat and check it every few minutes. I try to pull it out right before it's completely dry. Then I put it on and work it for about an hour. Usually just sitting in front of the TV squeezing it over and over and tossing a puck into the pocket. There have been catching gloves that I've loved and catching gloves that I've hated, but not one that I couldn't break in to perfection.

    Respectfully, I disagree with doing a stretching routine after a workout. When you workout you are creating tiny tears in your muscle fibers, the repair of which is what stimulates growth and an increase in strength. Think of those little tears like a frayed rope… When you pull on a frayed rope it tears further. I think you’re absolutely right about warming up first but I think stretching (serious dedicated stretching) should be done ideally when you are fully recovered from any intense muscle building exercise.

    • @goaliestrength
      @goaliestrength 2 месяца назад

      Yes, I see your point. Probably ideal to do it on a separate day if you can, but generally it will be hard to find the time between practice games and workouts. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it.

First tournament went 3-1 over 100 shots taken at me gave up 4 goals one game and one on another with 2 shutouts. I was calm because I could focus more because the mental caught up. Before practice and games I sit in locker room headphones on no music but no one bothers me. I'll move my glove in low medium high spots catching puck then go over to blocker and do the same thing and imagine dropping to block puck. By time I come out of that I'm mentally ready to play mentally

    Carrying Pads: Just use a loose lace and loop in under the calf wrap on both sides. Doesn't hurt the pad and is the easiest way to go about it. Did it on my Ultrasonics, Machs, and now Shadows.

    • @MrDcooper47
      @MrDcooper47 3 месяца назад

      @@ThatOtherGuyMike Lace doesn't need to be that long, so anything you can find. At the bottom of your calf wrap they'll be attached to your pads by elastics. Just put the lace through behind the elastic on each pad (so it doesn't fall out) and then tie a normal know to keep them together. It allows you to sling the lace on your shoulder and adds very little wear to your pads. I've done it on all of my Bauer pads for years. It's super simple and very effective.

      Thanks. After using it on the ice, here are my thoughts. Conforms well to the body, feels nice and integrated. I took some pucks in the chest/torso area that I didn't feel. Got one stinger in the forearm which surprised me, I'm not used to those in the Simmons chest protector I was using. Adds a lot of size, especially in the shoulders. Arms are too long for me. That's my biggest issue with these - might need a medium even though I am considered Large based on the sizing chart. I think it's a solid chest protector but make sure you like the length of the arms before using it. Try it on at home before wearing it on the ice in case you need to return it.

    Old Beer league goalie here just starting up again this year after 27 years off. I love playing. I know I’m not good, but I care a lot because I love working hard towards improving. But I’m really struggling with the mental side lately because I’m not good at it yet. I had a pretty serious injury earlier this year and it really messed with my confidence on top of my crappy technique. I signed up for a camp in September and I’m hoping it’ll be a great learning experience. I played as a kid for a few years, but in all my years of playing including this year I’ve never received any kind of real coaching.

    • @goaliestrength
      @goaliestrength 4 месяца назад

      Confidence after an injury is challenging. My best advice is to continue to push the off-ice training more and more, and then let the on-ice sessions accumulate and build confidence. As you get stronger off the ice, you'll feel better on the ice. You have the right attitude if you care about improving and signed up for a camp to get better - keep going!
