I've definitely found keeping my skates regularly sharpened makes a big difference. I've blown out too many edges on butterfly slides with dull skates.
I've also found relaxing, even when players are swarming the zone, is extremely important. If your body gets too tense and you dig in too deep, you won't be able to suddenly explode, and you'll get caught frozen and unable to move if there's a sudden change of direction.

Fully agree with you on all this. I play my best games when I am skating well. As far as sharpness, I would sharpen my blades (3/8) between periods if I could, so when I talk to guys who haven't had their skates sharpened in a year I am just amazed they can do anything. Anyway, great content, great channel. Thanks.

My son is a goalie who plays out for fun. When he plays out he wears player skates, if I signed him up for power skating would you recommend him wear his players skates or goalie skates?

Player skates. I think he'll get more out of it that way, and things will transfer to his goalie skates afterwards. Really smart of you to have him play out and do power skating.

Super helpful with professional words of wisdom. Thanks Coach. You are running 3/8" on 3mm steel? I currently own True customs with both 3 and 4mm and also Bauer customs with 3mm and remarkably found a set of fat 4mm. Do you recommend running a sharper cut when using the 3mm steel.

Thanks Anthony. Not an area of expertise for me. I would recommend searching on some goalie forums or submitting the question yourself. A hockey store could also answer that question for you in person.
