“SURVIVING XMAS SOBER” Tips to Enjoy The Festive Season Without Alcohol
Keep it up! Replacing your vice(s) with other things is a great idea like a walk or taking up a hobby. Alot of people i know drink simply because they are bored and have nothing better to do.
When I used to abuse alcohol as a dumb teenager, I would eventually learn that the people who were there when I was drinking didn't give a hoot about me. When I wanted to quit (and succeeded) those people were nowhere to be seen (I'm happy to keep it that way). Although your decision to drink (or not) should always be your own decision, the company you keep is important. The people you choose to keep in your life should compliment your life and not be the focus of it. Alcohol and substance abuse is a cultural/societal thing as well.
I was married to an alcoholic for 15 years. He did not work. He drank all day. I thought I could fix him like so many people do. I could not fix him. I finally got divorced. He drinks to this day. Nothing has changed. I am much happier living alone with my cat!
2 months AF today. I regularly view Steve's videos, love the honesty. Feeling great! You can do it folks!
Thankyou Steven, I think you’ve explained that perfectly 👍🏻 I find you very refreshing and also the time you take to help others in this situation, including me.
@@paulamaddock4691 Very welcome Paula 👍
I was celebrating a day or two off work... then I wasn't turning up for work... then I was just drinking...
im 35 me and my ex split up just over a year ago and i drank heavily every two days for almost a whole year. Now i just drink every so often.. problem with me is I can go without it I just mentally prefer not to and almost always drink until black out. But there is no way I can drink on a hangover, i need to sleep like 15 hours to recover. Cutting down though so that's something I guess. Keep fighting the fight bro
I'm saving over £700 monthly since stoped drinking heavy daily. First month purchased £200 of tools for my hobby of wood carving & £500 saved in the bank for my future travels in Asia.
I think functioning is the wrong word. Alcohol gives with one hand and takes away with the other. I got jobs after going to interviews with a few drinks. I had the confidence to do other things like chat up and be with women. Confidence is a super power. This is when alcohol works for us. We all know about the sad part.
"food for thought".. Then drink to forget.
Sure is
I think one of the greatest blessings in my life is that the two ladies that predominantly brought me up, my Mum and Nan,were militant tee-totallers. There was never any clink of bottles in the cupboard or worry about Mum having a hangover. This was in a working class area too. I had times where I thought they were fuddy duddy or pariahs but now I'm more grateful than ever. I'm not gloating but saying that we need to be examples for each other. We need to be somebody someone else can look up to. Not only do you save yourself, you become an example.
My partner says he’s not an alcoholic but he needs drink daily ,he doesn’t touch a drop at work but soon as finishes he cracks a can of Stella ,as bout 4 cans cos he’s a driving job so can’t get drunk for work next day . Weekends though he gets up really early 5am and he’s cracking a Stella open, he as bout 3 cans then about 1130am he then starts on his drinking session ,drinks can after can until bout 7pm then goes to bed . Next day first thing he does he opens a can . Says when at work doesn’t think bout having a can until his shift finishes . He drinks daily or cannot sleep he says . If we go out for a meal he orders two pints before meal cos csnt drink after a big meal , just want your opinion on this ,thank you
Very true, when you stopped what did you fill the gap with? Any interests or hobbies ?
I think quitting a bad habit and staying off it, can come down to replacing something negative with something positive ie instead of going to a bar and drinking etc replace with a good TV show/series (with netflix or Disney plus you can watch at a time that suits you), good book, good game etc. also there are countless benefits when you replace alcohol abuse with a healthy diet and exercise program.
Good vídeo again. Is that a book shelf behind?
Try pre gabalin
Thanks for the great videos .my " normal " drinking habit is 3 -5 pints a day .That may seem moderate to some ,but it still makes me feel like shit when it wears off , and causes me other problems as well. W all say " well just cut down to an amount that you can ,handle without harm but that just doesn't work . love tried so many times to have one or two a few times a week and always failed . Please don't think you can't advise people to get alcohol out of their live completely , because in reality that's the only thing that works ,as you know .Thanks again
Sir Steven 🤴 👑 ❤
I am a partner of an alcoholic he has been sober now for 3 weeks. I wish more is done regarding alcohol you buy cigarettes and the packet will have a gruesome image on it . I did through my partner out as the lies and the sneaking around I found it hard to cope with and my mental health took a nose dive. You see adverts on TV especially Stella and you have the likes of David Beckham promoting it, I’m sorry but I think they shouldn’t allow them. There is more damage done to your body and live being an alcoholic than smoking a cigarette . So glad you are sharing your story online x
10,000 subs soon! ❤
@@honestmicky Yeah let’s do this!!👍♥️
Excellent topic today Steven, thank you. There were many times i was so sick and hungover that i either left for day shortly after i got there, or hid the best i could to avoid my coworkers. What an awful nightmare. Im grateful that I have a second chance at Life. You look amazing mate ❤
@@honestmicky Cheers Micky ..it’s hard to cover up the drinking for long ♥️

Take care marty...god bless
You must understand you can not live with drinking alcohol all the time. it just doas not work. Life is tough enough as it is, it will destroy you sooner or later. Its a total waste of time, it really is. What im trying to say is nothing will happen when you stop but your quality of life will get better and better. Mix with peaple who dont drink and start over before you dont know where you are. Ive been there its not fun, if i can stop you can stop. One to much 100 not enough. Well done Steven and GOD BLESS YOU keep up the good work.
Great message Ken Thank you..hope you’re well 👍
Dont know if its the light but you been good over Christmas??
Oh yes I can never drink again ..if I did I would be below the soil in a few months 👍
On day 72. Feeling fantastic!!! No joke bloody fantastic!!!! Really worried about what happens I relapse. What to do, shame guilt!

Thanks for making this video
Hi Paul welcome to the channel, hope you are well Please subscribe & keep watching 👍
Interesting video thanks again Steve. If you think you are a functioning alcoholic you are just walking the tightrope till you fall off. And you will fall off and land in full alcoholism one way or another with your life and/or health in a mess. Thanks Steve i listen to your videos on both journeys too and from work and it has helped me personally no end in getting back on track with your reminders or how dangerous and harmful this stupid yet highly addictive drug is.. some people kick the habit of a drug addiction and every one keeps them well away from it.. you stop drinking and people still try to entice you to just have one pint !!
Very good point Adam...god bless
I have worked with alcoholics on the front line for over 25 yrs, my father was an alcoholic, my son has alcohol and substance abuse dependency issues, i have other family members that have died young due to alcoholism, i myself have an addictive personality and come from, as mentioned, a family with deep roots to alcohol issues, i do not agree that people do not know the dangers of excess alcohol consumption, what i do honestly believe is, and i've often said it to peoples faces, mainly family members of the addicted, is that they love the alcohol MORE than they love you....FACT FORGET about what it's doing to yourself, and open your eyes as see the devastation it's causing for the loved ones around you who did not choose this, WAKE UP ! ultimately, IT'S DOWN TO YOU

You’re not ‘functioning’, you’re masking, and you can’t do it for long.
Hi Kit …Spot on that ..Masking can’t go on forever Hope you’re well…Please subscribe & keep watching..👍
What do you think if you only drink 8 cans of corona beers 🍺 on a Saturday only Steve
Darren you will be fine mate 👍
you make a lot of sense ,looking good mate
Thank you Hope you are well 👍
It's when you still think no one else knows you are an alcoholic.
Bang on 👍
When I was still drinking I didn't want anyone to know. Now that I am sober, I don't care who knows. A good feeling.
There are many ways to kill am alcoholic. My old mate now lives in N. Zealand, we ditched each other his reason was to get married. Last week he wrecked his car and is in a wheelchair in hospital. Drink driving, doctors say he might have a year to live, perisitis, cirrhosis, the lot. Wife kicked him out, daughters don't want to know. He's been an addict all his life, various stuff, alcohol might get him now. Don't drink amd drive and slow down.
The only difference between a “functioning” alcoholic and proper alcoholic is time
Well said …so true…hope you are well Welcome to the channel, please subscribe & keep chatting 👍
You are very brave to talk so openly, my Dad was an alcoholic, so so sad. He had anxiety just like you. Take it day by day and you’re stronger than you think x
Hi Susan welcome to the channel/community ..Sorry to hear about your Dad …Alcohol is a devious drug Please subscribe & keep chatting 👍
Bang on here steven and When you do stop, initially your 'high functioning ' alcoholic life can actually become even more stressful ...because of all the things you have avoided whilst drinking .. sometimes for years and years plus there's suddenly a big hole to fill. so please don't give up people when this happens ...don't expect a magic potion with immediate results, this takes a lot of work but i promise it will pay off ❤
Great message..Thank you 🙏
I agree. You may fool yourself into thinking so. I also belive the last person who recognises that someone has a problem with alcohol is the person themselves
💯 % everyone knew I had a problem before me 👍
Steven I can't thank you enough for your support and I want you to know I don't think I would have the mindset and motivation had it not been for you. There is something very special in you that comes through and the information is totally key. Thanks a million
