After 14 months of full-time RV travel across the USA, we've decided to settle down on a 12 acre homestead in Georgia! We still have several videos from our travels left to publish, so we'll be sprinkling those in along with the homesteading & farming videos. We're brand new to any sort of homesteading, so we hope you'll enjoy watching us figure it all out. It should be pretty entertaining. :-)

Watch One of Our Baby Chicks Hatch In an Incubator!
Просмотров 1854 месяца назад
Our hens have been laying for a few months now, so we decided to start incubating some of their eggs to hatch out some new baby chicks. It's been so fascinating to see the development of the chicks inside the eggs while candling them, but even better to watch them hatch! This video shows the process of pipping, to zipping, and then hatching, as well as a little update at the end on how our litt...
MOAB, UTAH!!! Fisher Towers | Moab Giants | Portal RV Resort | Arches National Park

Visiting Moab, Utah in April was the best time of year! The weather was perfect, and we were able to hike in places that would have been miserable in the summer. We rode our bikes down the beautiful bike path that follows the Colorado River, visited the dinosaurs at Moab Giants, saw the amazing Double Arch in Arches National Park, and hiked the awesome Fisher Towers trail. We Taught Our Kids to Snowboard in Big Bear, California!
Good job! That gave me anxiety just watching!!
William Osgood is my many times great grandfather
You are so talented with building. Can I ask though? Is it annoying climbing the stairs for bed every night?
Not at all. The only annoying part is when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. 🤪
That was painful
Thank you for this beautiful moment. R.I.P. 🕊️
Can you share how much your budget was for this remodel?
If my memory serves me correctly, we were @ about $10k or so total. This included some fun new tools, RV supplies, TPMS, Garmin, etc … etc …
As a retired electrical/mechanical I think you did very well. 6/21/24 today. I hope travel is going well. Subscribed.
Thanks so much!
Curious why you decided to use premier one fencing in addition to the tractor. Did you fear predation of digging animals?
Peace of mind really … the only predator problem we’ve had was a fox jumping the fencing and snatching a full grown turkey and pulling through the premier fencing. This was an open roosting tractor though. We’ve never had a single predator problem from a chicken tractor + premier 1 netting. When you invest a ton of time, energy, and money into your meat birds, I’d hate to lose them all in one night to a frisky coon.
@@McVeyMcFarm Yeah makes sense. Here in central Italy I use the netting for my layers who go inside their chickshaw at night. No issues with predators there either despite high fox and wolf activity in our area. I'm wondering if the frequent moving deters foxes because they can never really study the weak spots for very long.
I made Justin's chickshaw and had the same concerns about the paneling, particularly to keep weasels and marten out in our area. I decided to put hardware cloth and then the paneling over top of that. So far after 6 months I have had zero predator issues, how has yours held up this past year?
Great question! Still holding up great! We’ve had zero predator issues although we don’t have a ton of small/slinky type predators like it seems y’all do. Smallest here would be coons, skunks, etc …. We haven’t needed to add any sort of hardware cloth under the panels.
Yes, yes, I've been there!
We take a big trip annually with another family (11 kids total between the two families). We just returned from a 17 day road trip with them to the Four Corners. We spent several days at Zion. Due to logistical reasons, I hiked the Narrows without anyone else from my family, but with my buddy (the dad of the other family) and three of his four kids. I went on for a while after their stopping point, but they stole the show that day by inflating inner tubes that they brought with them and then tubed the Virgin River to get back to the Riverside Walk. That may be a cool wrinkle to try that I haven’t seen anyone else do in person or online.
That is an amazing idea!!!! I wonder if the rangers would have anything to say about that, or if they wouldn’t care. It certainly would make the trip back much easier! 😆
@@McVeyMcFarm Not sure about rangers. I guess the other big thing would be to have optimal water levels. Not sure how shallow the deepest parts get as the summer goes on. For me, the deepest water I went through was chest height and I am 5’9”
I wonder which farm this is. Can I ask the name of the farm?
Old Windmill Farm in Lancaster, PA
This place is absolutely beautiful! Wow!
It really is! Definitely spend some time there if you can!
Great Video and looks like a lot of fun! We have a Gatlinburg trip coming up! We appreciate you sharing your experiences! 😀
Awesome! There’s so much to do there, we barely scratched the surface! Have fun!
USPS killed our first batch of chicks 13 years ago. Left them sitting in the hub for 4 days before calling us to say they "found them". Only 1 survivor that day and she was so sick she died 2 days later.
Oh no! How awful!!!! Thankfully we’ve never lost a live chick in the mail when we’ve ordered from a hatchery.
Rebecca Nurse is one of my (not sure how many) great aunts on my mums side. Been to her homestead as well and i love it❤ really hope to bring my daughter there this summer
What a story! I teared up 🥹🥹 Sweet Lucky ❤❤

Cant wait for a stock or canning video. Thank you so much
Thank you for reminding me to do one!!
Looks delicious.. will you take us along on your journey I really like watching food being made or canned i try to learn as much as possible. Thank you
I’ll definitely try to remember to make more cooking videos!
Are the boys twins. Sorry im new to your channel.. thanks fir sharing with us.
No, they are 20 months apart, but I get asked all time time if they are twins. 😆
@@McVeyMcFarm awe that's so cool. Thank you
Woah. Sorry for your loss 📉 😔
Those are some hard working young men.
I would take that contractor to court.. also try calling him from a different number to see if he will answer.. it really stinks that we cant trust anyone these days. im sorry they did u guys like that. Cant wait for the barn build.
Living creatures need to be handled with the utmost care by the USPS. Packaging needs to have more prioritizing markings and be treated with respect. The person who packaged the eggs needs to make sure that nothing inside can move out of place if the contents are jostled in transit. How amazing that the one little bird soul survived. The birds become such loving pets. That is the joy of being vegan/vegetarian, to be able to love them, enjoy their company and never eat them!
Wow an amazing video. Thank for sharing with us. I just found your channel and very happy i did.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
How wonderful 😊 welcome to the world lucky and friends 😂❤
That shows you when people handle packages they don’t care. This is so messed up on so many levels.
god bless
Awfull horrible
They are beautiful chickens with amazing tail feathers!
We’re excited to see them grow up!
What's the name of that incubator you use. Will be beginning our own family chicken farm. Small one. Thx.
We have 2 different kinds. Kebonnixs and Bobmail. Both from Amazon. We like the Bobmail ones better, but make sure you get a separate thermometer to put in them, because the temperature reading on all our incubators is inaccurate.
Here are the links: Bobmail: amzn.to/3yLELw6 Kebonnixs: amzn.to/3Kyl4KU
@@McVeyMcFarm thank you so much!
Thank you for the channel.
Whats inside the ice chest with the chicken? Interested.
Out with the old to make way for something new and better.
Amazing job you all did! Your tenacity and hard work ethics paid off - you did what the average homeowner couldn’t do - especially on that scale. Good job! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I wasnt prepared for the plucker!
It is certainly efficient!
Best way to do it. Thank you for not sugarcoating the process but keeping it respectful
I wish more people knew where their food came from, and could experience this first hand. We’re so detached from our food system here in America.
ALWAYS CUT AWAY FROM YOUR HAND
#savethedinosaurs 😭
Good job Ollie
Awesome - I wonder how the fresh meat tatse😅
It was great! I cooked up some breasts a couple days later after they rested in the ice bath and before we froze them.
😮...😮...😮
Yum yum.
Good for you guys, keep up the good work you are great parents
Thanks so much!
Thank you for gentleness
This is real life folks. Understand where your food comes from and the sacrifices people make for it to get it to you
I wish more people knew where their food came from.
@@McVeyMcFarm 100% agreed. I'd rather be able to see the entire food chain process on a local farm instead of buying from a box store that is supplied by factory farms. The cost is more but so isn't the quality from local farmers. I swear some people just believe meat magically comes from the grocery store.
I did some of that as a kid while visiting the south
