  • It's been a year since we went to the Grand Canyon, and I still get major anxiety thinking about what happened while we were there.
We stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams, AZ, and woke up to a ton of snow one morning! We also visited the Deer Farm in Williams, and hiked Fatman's Loop Trail in Flagstaff.

I had a problem watching them. Thank you for sharing this as well as your common sense advice. A few years back some of my friends were climbing a hometown water tower late night after drinking. They thought they’d sit up there on a summer night, look at the lights of town have some beers. The two guys made it up-the girl was last-she reached for my friend’s hand to pull her up, missed his hand and plummeted to her death. Those risky choices are never worth it. So glad you made that pact to keep your family safe.

Oh how awful! Yes, just one simple mistake or accident can alter your life forever. So scary!

I understand what you are saying. A person has to be comfortable in what they are doing, which can vary from person to person. I've been in places in Utah where I was on something very narrow and realized later that I was beyond my comfort zone. You have to put it in the past and go on, having learned your lesson.
I've been to the Grand Canyon many times- North rim, South rim, backpacking in the canyon, hiking across the river. From the rim you can't get the full sense of the size of the canyon, you have to go down into it a significant distance.

My husband and I would love to one day hike all the way down to the bottom. Gotta wait until the kids are out of the house, though. I find that I'm much more scared of heights when my kids are present. I don't have as much anxiety about it when I don't have to worry about them.

I remember when you told me about this. I definitely felt it with you!! I can’t imagine. I probably would have been hyperventilating. So glad everyone was safe!! Awesome job!

I definitely was panicking while they were out there. It didn’t help that there were people next to me sort of whispering to each other disapprovingly about them going out there.

My husband takes our kids & I on hikes off trail all the time. All over Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii and wherever we are.
It has really taught me to trust the Lord and to realize my kids are his. He knows the number of their days and he loves them more than I can imagine. So every time we get in those situations I remember to TRUST!

The camera is my old Canon EOS 5D Mark III, with a Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 lens.
