How to spray paint in the winter! (Ultra 9K)
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.Месяц назад
In this video I run you guys through how to I like to handle the winter months with super low himidity. If you didn't know humidity can be a help and a problem when it comes to spraying waterborne base coats. Without it you tend to see base trying to dry way to fast and become blotchy. This is one way to fight that happening. As always links to tools and products on the channel can be found dow...

Harbor Freight Black Widow (BRAND NEW!) Review!
we live in a time where a cheap product doesn’t always mean crappy quality and i love that
OILE OILE CRACKING VIDEO THERE MADE VERY WELL EXPLAINED THANKS FOR SHARING THAT INFORMATION 👍
Turn out great can you use solvent clear coat over waterborne base coat.im about to paint my dads corvette in my garage can make up my mind on what brand I don’t want to use the cheap paint and clear this time maybe middle of the road cause I don’t feel like wet sand and buffing the car
why wouldn't you use red sealer instead of grey? takes less coats to cover
I have the Willy quick top on my packout. I looked at pretty much all of the tops and really liked Willy quicks top the best.
Great video bro! Beautiful color for that truck
Can you show the masking? When you do the cab
What if you did get the base wet… would it cause a problem
Spies hecker is the best water base ! no mottle unlike ppg! ppg sucks!!!
Glasurit 100 line is the best water base system available in the world
@ Have to disagree. There trying to copy spies hecker. There just not there yet . 1 and a half coat . Try sanding that base good luck
@ I use it everyday and I feel bad for anyone that doesn’t lol
@@bodyshopsolutions695is glasurit a urethane based waterborne ??? I’ve heard that from somewhere and heard it is easier to sand your base when it is dry
Its totally different techniques applying solvent and water. We used debeer solvent and now debeer water, which i believe its the same with ultra 9k. In silver its always a pain to blend in water whereas solvent its quite easy. Saw your previous videos on blending silver in ultra 9k, and thats help alot. I always reduce the silver 1:1 with the blending addictive to cover the blend. Not sure why every time it happens to see the blend. Im looking forward to more video from you if possible on blending difficult color with water. Thanks man.
Coming to think of why the blend shows up might be possible color different from the flop. From what i can see usually its the flop is abit dark for silver in water compared with solvent which is lighter and easier to blend.
is the vibration the same as the traditional air tools?
Good video brother , I love solvent base coat, especially for my garage paintjobs , to much needed for water borne paint , not to mention the humidity
I love these kind of videos brother your doing awesome very honest and informational i learned alot from you.
Did you ever make the video as mentioned for the best diy garage set up? I was researching this gun how i came across your channel. I have a 30 gallon dewalt advertised 7.7 @ 40 compressor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive been thinking about purchasing the lph 400, but that still use around 10 cfm @
Just had sun fire installed in the shop, loving it so far
Great video mate, just out of interest, what's your dv1 setups for base and clear
Man I miss that clear one of my favorite clears
For those who are concerned about the toolbox not being deep enough you have to remember you need to park a car right next to it if you're using it at a home garage. In a matter of inches your walk way to the back door or washing machine is tiny. Clothes basket will not fit that small walk away gap with a parked car. Something to consider.
Solvent is easy to sand, Glasurit 90 line waterbase is a mess trying to sand its almost impossible 😂 . Great video got me a walcom gun for Christmas 🎁⛄🎁
Hi Joel, fantastic job with the solvent base the finish you got is superb, all I use is solvent as it's easier for me in my homemade booth I have tried water base but it takes longer to flash and can be a pita!😁 You sprayed the base exactly the same as I do with one light coat then two full wettish coats but the problem I get is with the drop coat do you do it while the panel is still wet or do you let it dry first, if I do a drop coat over a dry basecoat it always feels gritty even though I always use slow reducer and I use my DV1 1.3 Digital with the B+ aircap at 17 psi at the digital gauge, any help would be appreciated, cheers Joel👌John UK👍
If you have to do a drop coat at all do it with the basecoat wet. Typically my 3rd coat I’ll back up and keep a tight overlap and it’s essentially a drop coat but I’m allowing it to wet out vs how I spray water. Solvent has to wet out in order to adhere to each layer. So if you dry spray it it’ll actually shift around on you and mottle. I like to go slow with solvent start to finish. Ends up being faster in the end because it builds up evenly.
Ok thanks for the advice Joel, I've seen some do a drop coat on dry basecoat then others do it wet so it's good to hear it from someone that knows what they are doing👍
Solvent is a vacation 🤣
Absolutely 😂🔥
What fluid an air cap did you use? Looks great !
Dv1 base 1.3 and dv1 clear c2 air cap 1.3.
Hi Olie ! I've noticed you're using a PPS adapter on your porphis, what number/reference is it ? I've got a prd627 too and would like to purchase one of those. Thanks for yours videos 🤙
What’s the part # on your fresh air mask
Wish I had a booth like that! Nice work..
Works as good as a flex for under 100 is hard to beat
You think it will work on wood
Finally an actual review and not just a sponsored ad.
Where did you get the magnet sensor for the light?
What size is your pps adaptor
So it even last 30 mim?
Please Let us know when you got that adapter! Which one would you recommend for headlight restoration, I start mostly with 400grit.
To be fair this is literally all you need IF you work at a dealership and don't plan on buying your own "specialty" tools. I've work for GM for like 3 years and 2 different honda dealers out of a snap on service cart...I had a Master series box but the drawers where literally 52 inchs long and quite deep... I had that box for 5 years and didn't even fill 1 tool drawer...
Is this sander going to be useful for sanding headlights do you think?
I wish they made the 3" diameter sander the same profile as the bigger ones you showed. The 3" is so tall!!
quick question what kinda rig do you have that allows you to film like this? thank you
why didn't you show clear coat spraying ?
Spray guns Direct
We got one demo in the shop and guess what im te only one who's been using it for a week straight,, i love it lol
For headlight restoration using dry 400 grit which one recommend, 3/16 or 3/32? Ty
@@wilfredgomez2632 They both work but if you wanted fine sanding I'd go with 3/32 for prepp/detail/Polish like he Said in the video.. if you're bodyman and sanding down boondo or anything rough or need the cutting power then go for 3/16,,, I go with 3/32 for my need, refinish job is all I do so I like my surface to be smooth different folks, different strokes 😂
@@wilfredgomez2632 for headlight I like to do quick 400 with hand wet sand from 600,800,2000,3000,5000 then Polish or just to be quick I just 800/1000 wet gridd,, masking around the headlight and spay clear and be over with,, cover the whole car with plastic so no overspray,, or take the headlight off and spray clear
What rps adaptor does it take ?
I must say, I don’t usually watch a lot of this type of content, but I love learning. And like most people, I am a visual learner when it comes to application. I agree that there isn’t enough good field support these days. I’m a Sikkens rep, and have been in the industry for over 25 years. And when I get calls from painters, I’m always amazed by how little some folks know. But it isn’t their fault. As reps, we have to be available for you guys and be sure to have solutions for you. I like the cross coat application on drop coats, as well as the wet bed method. But, as you show Joel, gun control is key. For solvent users out there, ask your local AkzoNobel rep or AkzoNobel distributor about basecoat blend additive. It’s available in Sikkens and Lesonal solvent lines. Great job Joel!
I'm on the fence with this one, they state lifetime guarantee, but chatgpt states it to last between 2 to 5 years. I fell like this may be more for the DIY, a correct procedure I'll stick to 2k clear. Would like your thoughts on it tho.
I can’t comment longevity without personal experience. HOWEVER this is my best friend and body techs car. So I will be seeing it age and I will provide an update! With how nice it applies and levels I have a feeling it’s going to last a good long while.
I just did some very yellow headlights yesterday. They were out while I paint the frontend. They have internal cracks so from a few feet look great. Just curious what would last longer. If the lights are in the car the wipes are great for no overspray.
Being flat rate , this would help me be more efficient and crank out some more hours . My dream set up is to have Milwaukee rotary and DA 6” buffers , and the palm sanders . No more hose or cords and can just move freely wherever I want throughout the shop
Nice! I recently used the 3m kit on my wife’s crv but I’ll have to check this one out.
Quality work right there the real question is why so many paint shops dont color match correctly?? we see them everyday a car with substantially darker "blended" paint than the factory color
Does the 6 inch pad from 3m work on these?
My first Devilbiss was a gti many moons ago. Lol
I have both base and clear dv1’s I spray the clear with a 1.3 with the c-2 cap at 18 psi. Great gun but not fast. Atomizes great very efficient
Is it really that faded or is the clear coat just faded? I've seen "pink" cars turn red again after a compound and polish.... I'm not sure the base coat is actually that bad
It is actually that bad lol. This isn’t single stage. The base under the clear is cooked. Clear is clear lmao it won’t polish out 😂
There's a bunch of RUclips videos of new bumpers looking darker than old paint but when polishing the clear on the rest of the car it adds depth to the original paint then it looks almost perfect. Dull clear coat will make the base look lighter than polished clear because of the way it reflects lights. And I'm not talking about single stage paint.
