Just Keep Walkin
Добавлен 12 авг 2022
I enjoy hiking in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. I started this channel to provide information on each trail in case it is one that you might be interested in hiking yourself. Please subscribe if you enjoy these videos. It's free and gives you a notification when I publish new videos on RUclips. Also, please leave your comments under each video to let me know what you think. I will try to respond to all of them, although it may take me a couple of weeks. I tend not to monitor my account until it's time to upload a new video. Thanks for watching. - Travis
New Series: 8 Minute Hikes (Abrams Falls)
I'm starting a new series called 8-minute hikes where I edit the entire length of the video to only 8 minutes to make it more viewer friendly. The first hike in the series is Abrams Falls which is located within Cades Cove Loop in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). Getting there can be a challenge depending on the traffic and congestion. The trail is 5 miles round-trip and takes approximately 2.5 to 3.0 hours depending on your pace. The trail travels besides the river for the most part, and you will cross over 4 log bridges along the way. The waterfall is beautiful, but can be very dangerous due to the rapids so be careful. I hope you enjoyed the video and the new shorter fo...

Cucumber Gap to Little River Trail Loop
Просмотров 27716 часов назад
Today I hiked the Cucumber Gap to Little River Trail Loop. It is located in the Elkmont area within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). The loop is 5.5 miles and takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. Along the way there are lots of stone foundations and chimneys from cabins that used to be there. The David Chapman cabin has been refurbished and is open to the public for d...

My first time watching your video and really enjoyed it. Thanks!!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for letting me know.
Hey I joy your video. I do enjoy the longer video. but what ever makes it easier for you. I'll enjoy it either way. Thanks
That’s really pretty luv it!
I thought so too. It was definitely a unique sight since I've been hiking. I like the snow, but I'm ready for warmer weather. 🙂
@ most definitely!
I like both the long and the short versions. Well done.
Thanks Joe! I appreciate the input. As you can tell, I'm still trying to figure out what works best. I like the longer versions better for more details on the trail, but most people tend to prefer the shorter ones. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again.
Both,👍 If I watch an eight minutes and I am interested, then I'll go ahead and watch the long version. Kinda like previews. Good idea 💡
Good idea! Maybe I'll try both the short and long versions of the video and see how that goes. Thanks for the feedback.
I love all the videos.
Thanks Vickie! I'm glad you like them. I'm still trying to figure out what works best. I'll keep making a few more, so we'll see how it goes. Thanks again.
I love these falls I love both long and short videos I enjoy the scenery Loved all of the wooden bridges Saw these falls years ago and it's still breathtaking ❤
Thanks Shirley! I may end up publishing the regular videos and a shortened 8 minute video also. Not sure yet. I love the log bridges too. The waterfall is always awesome. 🙂
Do Baskins Creek Falls via the manway.
That's near Rainbow Falls, correct?
@ trail starts at the dead end of Baskin Creek Road. Follow the creek up to the falls, staying on the right side of the creek.
Great idea for a series!
Thanks Tom! I'll try a few of these shorter videos and see how they do. I like showing more of the trail, so editing to 8 minutes was more difficult than I thought. 🙂
So peaceful to be in the woods, especially in the snow! Enjoy!
I know what you mean - it was a great day!

THE TORNADO HIT NEWPORT HARD YESTERDAY HOW ABOUT YOU BUDDY
We are good. Just heavy wind and some rain. Thanks for asking. How about you? Everyone OK?
@justkeepwalkin lot of flooding and trees down some roads where washed out but we are ok thank you buddy
@bradcampbell1641 I'm sorry to hear that. That part of TN can't catch a break lately from the weather. Glad to hear you're safe. Thanks for checking on us.
So tranquil ❤
It really was, but I'm ready for Spring now. 😄
Wow ! I LOVE owls! Thanks for sharing ❤
It was the first one I've seen while hiking. It made my day. 🙂
I have traveled this road many of times it's just amazing that you don't freeze before you get there what beautiful memories I have of Cades Cove and the all the tunnels.😅❤
Hi Lawrence! My grandfather used to take us to Cades Cove when we were kids. He would blow his car horn as we went through the tunnel "to let the deer know we we coming. " 😄 Of course, there were a lot fewer people back then, and we were the only ones passing through the tunnel. I still love Cades Cove.
Lol, you all are so funny. I am about the same age and I hike alone, no one to go with me. I am hoping to move there and hike all the time 😊 just need to find a new job. You all are so funny and love the way you got the you tube channel 😁 so sweet that your wife watches your videos. Also, I remember the tree that used to be abundant in Appalachia. The American chestnut. You can watch a video from 2 yrs ago from the Appalachian Storyteller called The Rise and Fall of Appalachia. Very interesting.
Hi Karlene! Thanks for the kind words. I hope you get to move this way eventually so you can enjoy the Smokies too on a regular basis. Thanks for the info on Appalachia also. I'll have to check it out.
@@justkeepwalkin you are welcome 😊 and thank you for your kind words also
Beautiful, so beautiful. 😊
This is honestly one of the best views and nicest places I have hiked to so far. I was completely surprised by how beautiful it was.
@@justkeepwalkin that is a trail I have been wondering about. Thank you 🙂
@@KarleneT It was a tough hike to get there, but the view was worth it.
@@justkeepwalkin thank you. This summer I may try Brushy Mtn. 🙂
@KarleneT The All Trails app shows the trail is currently closed due to damage. Make sure to double-check before you go.
Beautiful stone work back then ❤
Hi Brad! I absolutely agree. Lots of this style of stone work scattered throughout the National Park. I love seeing it.
@justkeepwalkin me too it one of my favorite things in these hills
Beautiful!
Agreed! One of my new favorite videos.
Awesome 👌
One of my favorites so far.
Beautiful
The snow increased throughout the morning after I filmed this one. 🙂
That is so awesome! 👏 ❗️‼️
It made for a great day. 🙂
Beautiful! I've been wanting to see an owl while hiking for a long time but haven't yet. So cool!
Hi Amy! This is the first one I've seen while hiking. Totally made my day. 🙂
@justkeepwalkin I bet! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful
Agreed! 🙂
We love this part of the park! It's really nice they are restoring the old cabins! I'm working on my fitness, so I'm ready for the trails this year. Thank you for taking us along, Travis!
Sounds like a plan! 🙂 I haven't been able to hike as far this year. I need to work on my fitness also to extend the trails I'm able to do.
I have hiked there so many times and never seen all of those! Coming this weekend and can't wait!
There is a lot to see on this trail. The visibility is better this time of year too. Have fun on your hike this weekend! I hope the weather cooperates.
Nice old chinneys. Just think, they used to have their Alexa and flat screen on those fireplace mantels.
Ha! That's awesome!
I remember when you did it before it was very low
I know, right? The water level was really high yesterday.
There is a cabin off in the woods on Jake creek trail that’s pass the cucumber trail. It’s called the Avent cabin.
I've been to Avent Cabin a couple of times. One of my favorite cabins in the Smokies.
My wife and I have hiked this loop when the cabins were still there. Nice loop to hike for a half day.
Hi Ron! I agree. It's an awesome loop.
Wow, that water crossing has grown. I never seen it that big before.
@@ronpennington3874 I didn't remember it being that large of a water crossing either. Definitely surprised me.
WAS A GOOD DAY FOR A HIKE MY FRIEND
Yes it was. 🙂
When was this snow coming down? Is that a baby hog?
This was 2 weekends ago. I believe it was an adolescent hog. Maybe a year old or so. It was the first time I've seen one while hiking.
Loved this trail The old chimneys were amazing and so different The waterfall was breathtaking The over all scenery was really great Thks for taking me ❤️
There is a lot to see on that trail. One of my favorites. 🙂
That is a magical path! Beautiful
Hi Holly! I agree. It was awesome.
This trail was just what I needed on a beautiful day after all the cold and rain. The parking area was crammed but I only saw two people on this trail. Thanks for the heads up!
Nice! Most people hike the main trail and don't even know about the quiet walkway. I didn't know about it until last year. I was pleasantly surprised when I hiked it. I'm glad you enjoyed it, especially on such a beautiful day.
Love this! Question - any trail you would recommend between gatlinburg and the townsend wye. Headed you for daughter bday in feb
Hi Vickie! There is a trail that starts at Metcalf Bottoms picnic area that goes to Greenbrier Schoolhouse and then on up to the Walker Sisters Cabin. I would highly recommend that one. 🙂
Beautiful Thank you
Thanks David!
Where's my inheritance
If I find it, I'll let you know. 😁
We're is she
I'm looking...
Where is she
It's on Maddron Bald Trail in Cosby, TN inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Where is she
Where is the wall located?
Ok
Hi Joe!
I miss going to Abrams falls which I walked from cades cove to the falls , I have walked this trail alot it is steep but challenging and moderate it always took me about an hour but I would stop alot and see what I could see the falls was always so welcoming to you when you arrived. very good way to cool down on hot summer days.😅❤🎉🎉
Abrams Falls and Cades Cove are both awesome. I've hiked to the Falls a couple of times, but never been swimming there. May have to try that this summer. 🙂
Sad history 😢 Thanks. God Bless this Family and Dennis ! RIP & THE LORDS HANDS 🙏
Extremely sad and no closure for the family.
The ground is as hard and harder than a marble type of floor when freezing before the snow get accumulated it is very miserable to be outside in conditions like this but if it's what you like to do just do it , I HAVE seen joggers that nothing want stop them😮😅 but the wildlife has better sense than people do 😮😅
Hi Lawrence! So true. Luckily I was dressed appropriately for the cold weather, but I did pick up my pace to get back to the truck. 😁
warming up nice today in newport brother
And it's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow. 😃
@justkeepwalkin I hope so 😆
I took that trail once and it went to a cemetery then I tried again another time and couldn't find it 😊
There is so much to see in Cades Cove, it's easy to get turned around. I've done that several times. 😁
@justkeepwalkin 😊
Lol you are funny. I wouldn't want people to see me talking either. Cades Cove is my heaven on Earth. 😊 Maybe the wood they used was Buckeye tree wood. I think that is what was very abundant before disease hit them. Very strong wood. And there was millions of them trees. 😊 Think it was Buckeye. It might be Chestnut 😊
Cades Cove is one of my absolute favorites! It has become very popular and is usually very crowded now. They close it to car traffic in the summer. We ride electric bikes through it a couple of times last year. That was awesome. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, but it sure held up well. 🙂
@@justkeepwalkin 😊 yea always seems crowded. They don't build stuff to last anymore. Riding bikes would be fun
Beautiful. Thank you 😊 I love those bridges too.
Thanks Karlene! 🙂
@justkeepwalkin you are welcome 🙂
Thank you for taking me on this hike The scenery was gorgeous Loved the bridges and the snow on the streams were beautiful I also love the small bridges ❤
Snow and wooden bridges on the same hike are a tough combination to beat. 😁
