Thanks for this. Is there any reason you didn’t use the tube cap to keep the wick perfectly centred? Just drill a small hole in the top of the cap and pass the wick through it.

Most enjoyable watch. For us, here in British Columbia, the worry we have thrashing through thick brush like that is mostly surprising a bear. They don’t take kindly to that, especially grizzlies or black bears with cubs nearby. Still, we take suitable precautions and do it anyway, the love of being in wilderness being stronger than fear.

With a lot more people around but reminds me a bit of Barnaslingan/Carrickgollogan Woods about a 15 minute cycle from my gaff. Dank and slippery, moss covered logs 'n rocks and fallen trees where the air is thick like Mirkwood in Lord of the Rings.

I doubt you missed that sign , it may have been only put up by the hunter that you passed even though he asked you "did you not see the sign" I've met a couple hunters early on the trails. 1 horrible hostile ol fella and another very nice guy , who even dropped me in the Liver to eat. At the bottom of Cahercommaun ringfort in the Burren there's a hazel wood valley which is very interesting, used to hike in the dark there during the lockdowns. Not for the faint hearted, quite spooky and atmospheric. On a silent night you can hear the animals, fox's, badgers or goats breaking twigs etc Dangerous for walking too, best to careful trudging the area
