    Jason - great looking trip. I am glad the little speed wobble on the trail did not result in a sore back for you. As to your MRE, those drink mix bags are a bit of a pain. Designed to drink from so you don't mess up your cup. The MRE heaters are hit and miss if the old. The water needs to keep in contact with the heat bag, so best the roll the top down and lay it sideways. Also, a good trick is the cut the pouch open sidewise (down the long side) then your hands /spoon don't disappear into the abyss of the bag. And how can you diss the peanut butter? Put it with the blackberry jam and have a PB&J sandwich.

    • @RamblingOn
      @RamblingOn  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah me too, the one time I had no trekking pole 🤦‍♂️I've completely given up on trying to figure out the heat pouch 😄 I'll keep hold of them and do some experimenting though. Peanut butter is not for me, hazel nuts are grand he rest... no thanks 😄

    Jason, just a little thought for you on drinking from the streams, yes look’s fresh and safe but have in the back of your mind, there could be a dead animal laying in the water up stream, probably decomposing and if you drink the water running along the forest, you will pick up a serious bug that will turn your tummy into a spin dryer..😂 so be careful, yes water seems fresh and cool, but………look out for any dead animals that have died in the stream !! All the best, Brian

    • @RamblingOn
      @RamblingOn  17 дней назад +1

      Thanks a mill Brian. There's always a possibility of nasties like that upstream no matter how high you are in the mountains. I had a Katadyn Befree filter with me that I used on the hike up and once I got to camp I boiled the water too. I don't think that does anything for viruses but at least the bacteria would have been killed. I'd hate to give myself the runs while out on a camp, that would not be cool 🤣

    Nice one Jason, awesome beautiful scenery & quite ironic that U were using a ration pack in this video, as I got back from a 24hr woodland camp earlier today & had a 24hr British Ration Pack with me, which I ordered a few weeks ago... I took a gamble & got a 10pack bulk order in the end & reckon they're pretty good value considering all the things that U get in them...👍 I felt like a big kid opening a bag of presents most exciting...!🤣 Me & the dog were lucky to have a dry mild night, woke up to a nice sunrise through the trees, amongst a mass of bluebells & then decided to just stay there all day...😆 I had a Pasta Bolognese on Saturday night, an All Day Breakfast in the morning & some Indonesian Spicy Pork Rice for lunch...👍 Living the dream dude...!🙏 I'd never have imagined that I'd be out rucksacking & wild camping at 53yrs old...!🤯 Has been quite a learning curve, to survive with just the basics on my back, but ya can't beat being out in nature...✔️💯 Best wishes & tread carefully...!😂👊

      Your ration pack sounds immense. They are really good considering the amount you get in them. I have the first 12 menus so I might get the other 12 when I'm done with those. The British ones sound good, did you get them on ebay? Ah yeah it's tough going on some of the hikes but it's always worth it once you get to where you are going. Hopefully we'll get some decent weather over the summer 🤞

    @mrsorepaws9146 7 месяцев назад

    I'd go camping there! I'd bring snacks, though. Dried fruits are awesome for this: lighter weight, but keeps all nutrients. And...tasty!
    Chafing, eh? If you know your boots may be chafing - try using sports tape on explosed spots before setting out. It's what I did when in the army; army boots never seemed to set right.
    Any idea on how high above sea level you were at the highest?
    Also: Glendalough Saint? Now there's a song you have to be irish - and a bit into your whiskey - to understand the lyrics!

    • @RamblingOn
      @RamblingOn  7 месяцев назад +1

      I must check out the trail food, I'll have to try out the fruit too. I dehydrate them and use them in me porridge.
      The tape is a great idea, still having the same issue with the right boot. Not sure why it's only the right one 🤔 the highest point was in around 700m, not sure of the exact number

    • @RamblingOn
      @RamblingOn  7 месяцев назад +2

      No worries, happy to do it 😀 there's a few things I would do differently, I would bring snacks for the trail. Just to try keep the energy levels up because it was a decent hike. Maybe carry water to drink on the hike instead of waiting to pick it up.
      I should have brought a trekking pole, I only left it behind because I carried my bug camera and tripod the entire hike. If I had the pole I wouldn't have fallen the way I did and I should have brought my lanshan 1. It's a good 1.3 kg lighter than the helm and longer inside. So just a few bits 😄

      I have to say I was sceptical at first but took the chance on it and it's been fantastic. I didn't want to use a chair, it was more a case of needing one. This gives plenty of back support and can be used inside a tent too which is brilliant. I don't think they would suit everyone so it's a case of having to take a chance on it.
