Ah Jason...no matter what kind of day or week I have been enduring...once glance at your videos in your beautiful homeland...or a listen to that heart warming giggle of yours ALWAYS puts a smile on my face. You are more inspiring that perhaps you even know. Well done with thanks again always.
I put ceramic wool in all of my alcohol stoves to make them all spill proof. Buy some ceramic wool, lay it out on a table and use your Trangia alcohol stove as a cookie cutter and cut out 3-4 perfect fit circles and poke them into your stove. ( My ceramic wool is 1cm thick ) Now your stove will work as normal only no more dangerous spills.
Thanks a mill, I could have done with that on the night. Really I should have out the stove out as soon as I'd finished using it. I like your idea becuase it is very easy to tip those stoves if you're not too careful.
This! I got a sheet of carbon felt from eBay quite cheaply. Apparently it's stuff welders use to protect against sparks. In principle you spread it under a gas/alcohol stove as an added safety measure. I measured the depth of the Trangia spirit burner and cut a strip of carbon felt that height. I then rolled up the strip and stuffed it into the burner. I cut a circle of stainless steel mesh from an old collander to approximately match the opening of the burner. You can push this down on top of the felt. Works great. The burner can be full and won't spill if tipped.
Too many youtubers give off the impression of everything being perfect and it's great to see 'real life' happening. I know whenever I go out there's always something that goes wrong 😅.
Fantastic vid....thankyou for sharing the wildlife an scenery...really nice. I watched in anticpation of tea an biscuits😮 I saw the ration cracker😅 Good for you for adapting... Wow...lovely to hear the birds.
in a way the trangia saved you there - they are usually fairly stable. the top section usually stays put but must have swivelled round to the gaps and popped off. when in tent I tend to use the gas adapter with my trangia.
@alanmacmillan6957 Yeah, I definitely got lucky with this one. I have the gas adapter, so I'll be using that the next time there's a tent involved 😄 thanks a million for joining me 👍🍀
Hi Jason, just to say this is a really well made video IMHO and thanks for making the effort. On the camping side of things I suppose we’ve all had little and big dramas over the years, I sure have. And isn’t that the whole point, adventuring is the thing. Keep well and looking forward to your next video.
Thank you Michael, yeah it's all part of it. The little dramas are how I learn the most. The main thing is not to panic and just go with the flow I reckon. Plenty more adventures to come 🙌
Breathtaking scenery luscious green mountains, water flowing down. Look's very cold and windy. I enjoyed watching this video Thankyou for sharing. Stay Safe And Healthy ALOHA From Hawaii ❤❤❤❤
Good man Jason Sometimes things don't work out the way we planned! Thanks for showing that camping out like this isn't all sexy views, beautiful weather and perfect pitches! Some nights it just feels like why didn't I stay at home! Last weekend I did a quick overnight in Wicklow. I thought I had a good spot from Google satellite view, but it turn out to be head high bracken and gorse, so I had to make do with a rough patch big enough to pitch on the path further back down the hill, too stony to push in pegs, loads of sticks and debris, thought it would be a disaster, but it was grand in the end and had a lovely chilled morning in the sun before I packed up. Thanks for the early view, nice watch early Sunday morning when I have the big TV to myself 😂. Keep safe lad, and look forward to your next adventure. ATB, George
🤣 I often think that, especially in the winter when you're leaving a nice cosy house to go camping the frost. Best thing in those situations is take your time, it sounds like a cracking morning and you got a night in the tent so happy days. Your Lanshan is serving you very well. I must take mine out for another spin. I getbuo early too, its the only time I get to myself 😄 enjoy the peace and quiet 👍🍀
You are spot on, a taut line hitch would have been ideal. I even know how to tie them but you know when I thought of it, in the car on the way home 🤣 Tiredness played it's part there
Cheers Jason another cracking video you didn't get much luck on that one but still managed to make it highly entertaining fair play 😁 catch you on the next one
Hi Jason. Thanks!! You have answered a question. I had looked down on that area from the top and wondered if it was suitable for a tent. Fair play on sticking with it and spending the night there. It was an enjoyable and entertaining watch. All the best 👍
The weather man has a lot to answer for! Another cracking video. I've had so many near misses with the alcohol stove. The last where I nearly set my backpack on fire 😅😅😅 Really enjoy your videos mate! Good inspiration! 👍
The weather man is the most optimistic person in Ireland. 🤣 yeah I'll habve to be extremely careful in future, it's just lucky that that particular tent had no groundsheet. I hope that your backpack survives a few more trips with you 😄
Great video Jason and looking across the views was amazing. No rain 😂 Apart from the weight factor that was Hilleberg conditions, hindsight is easy 😂 Loving your confidence to light a fire inside the tent too 👍 Have a great weekend mate.
100% Hilleberg weather to be sure, Isish weather is Hilleberg as standard. I know the confidence is unreal, bet you never saw a camp fire inside the tent before 💪🔥 You too Lee, take her handy
@louierendall3125 thanks a mill, the pegs were fine it was my tensioners allowing the guyline to slip. I've changed them for slightly thicker ones so I'll have to take it out for a test run soon 😄 thank you for joining me 🍀

I hope they bring back some nice memories for you🍀
That would have handled the wind beautifully and had I known the wind would be so strong I would have taken the Hilleberg. I haven't stopped taking it, I just have a few tents that I use.
Ooh I didn't know there was a black edition, sounds class. You just can't go wrong with trangia. The engraving reads 'Laughter is brightest where food is best'
Cracking video Mate, i dare say you were wondering if you had packed spare underwear when the stove fell over ,LOL . Thanks for sharing your adventures.
another fine video Jason, well done sir! looked like that was the Comeragh mountains? what tent did you use there, solid in the wind? Must email you soon about places in Cork, haven't forgotten :)
Cheers Graham, the Trangia is bulky enough but it's pretty cool to be fair. I'd imagine that it will be good in the winter but I doubt I'd use the alcohol stove just in case of a spill. I have the gas stove to go with it so I'll give that a bash and see how it goes.
Ah lad whatever about upsetting that father & son by wandering around the mountain, you definitely pissed them off with the smell of that steak drifting up the mountain as they tucked into pot noddles!!!! 😂
Serious comment. If you were fat adapted and didn't eat so many sugary snacks, you wouldn't need to eat before you hike back to the car. You carry 1000's upon 1000's of calories around your waist. Feeling reliant on more and MORE food in the belief that you need it to continue exercising is nonsense. I do, "IF" intermittant fasting most days of the week. Which means I eat inside a 6-8 hour window each day and fast the rest. I don't feel hungry, I can think clearly, I can train at the gym, whatever....wih no urge to eat 6x a day. Look up Paleo, Keto and Carnivore diets, you will be amazed. When I go camping, I take boiled eggs, beef jerky and mackrel in a can, stuff like that. Any cured meat sticks, salami etc, its yummy. If you give it a try, it will take weeks to months to adapt. Do the research and follow instructions, with things like, "Keto Snake Juice" to prevent Keto flu as you adapt to using fat/ketones as energy, and not carbs and sugar. Love your channel and your laugh. All the best.
Thanks for all of your advice, it makes a lot of sense. I've been learning all about strength training and the affects that different foods have as you mentioned. I'm obviously very fond of the sweeter things in life so it's just a matter of getting used to a healthier lifestyle. I think I'll get there some day because I feel a lot better when I've had a few weeks of good workouts and eating less sugary foods. I've tried the intermittent fastin which works well day to day but for me it gets a bit tougher when I'm doing big hikes. Mayeb I just need to give it more time as you said. Who knows what will happen but I'll keep trying and hopefully I'll level off to a place where I'm happy with my overal health and energy levels etc. Thanks again for your help, I appreciate it. Take her handy 🍀

Thanks a million Joe, I hope all is going wel for you 🙌🍀
That lil chuckle tho! Someone pointed it out on the last vid I watched and now I always hear it where I didn’t really before! But it makes me smile!
I'm very happy to hear that, I think it bothers some people but I can't do much about it 😄
Nah! I love it! It makes me smile 😊

Stuning wildlife footage at the start. Nice to see a shrew!
Cheers, not a wildlife expert but I thought that may have been a shrew. Feeling quite pleased with myself now!
I was delighted to see them, the little shrew was pottering up the trail
Love the optimism... and the laughter. Great video!
Great evening, even with the challenges. Thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks a mill for watching the videos 🙌

😄 the tea was scarce on this one, the biscuits even more so. Thank you for joining me 🍀
Wow, that was one thing after another. Well done for sticking with it 👏. I held my breath when I thought you going to burn a hole in your tent 😮.
😄 there were a quite few profanities when that was kicking off. Tired and clumsy

You’re one of my favorite channels man. Keep it up bro. I’ve also had one of those little alcohol stove accidents before 😂
I'm glad I'm not the only one, thanks for joinig me 🍀

Fair play once again Jason, you made it work. The grasshopper and shrew were an amazing catch on camera.
The grass hopper was loving it 🤣
Great video Jason, love watching ❤️ ❤
Thank you Alan, I hope you're on the mend
The father and son already knew you were a weirdo, when they saw your tent that you were planning on sleeping in that wind ! :D
😂 If I'd know it was going to be Hilleberg weather I would have been better prepared
Shocking how the wind can just arrive and announce itself loudly sometimes...
Itx a good in strong winds to put large rocks on top of tent pegs it will keep them from pulling out.
@louierendall3125 thanks a mill, the pegs were fine it was my tensioners allowing the guyline to slip.

Nire Valley? always good to watch your uploads!
Close this was the Boolas
Great video
Weather and conditions make it different every time
That’s what is so challenging
Marvellous

Thank you Jeff 🍀

know the spot well 👋👋
I'll be back again to see if there are any decent camp spots to be found 😄
I see the weather is just as good in Ireland as it is in Scotland right now.
Summer, eh? Who needs it?
ME😊😅😅
It's been the same in Wales and Cumbria. Wet, humid and an occasional sunny day.
😂 I laughed my ass off at this, Ireland has forgotten about the summer season. We're a 3 season country now 👍
@@RamblingOn What's that? Winter, winter, winter?
Just wondering why you stopped bringing the Hillebourg tent? That should have stood up to the wind no?
That would have handled the wind beautifully and had I known the wind would be so strong I would have taken the Hilleberg. I haven't stopped taking it, I just have a few tents that I use.
Great video 😎👌 where did you get your trousers?? Im looking for a similar pair
Those are Helikon tex Pilgrim trousers. I actually can't remember where I bought them but they won't be hard to find online
Class Trangia Jason, I love them! Thinking of upgrading to the special black edition! What did you get engraved if not too personal a question!?
Ooh I didn't know there was a black edition, sounds class. You just can't go wrong with trangia. The engraving reads 'Laughter is brightest where food is best'

another fine video Jason, well done sir! looked like that was the Comeragh mountains? what tent did you use there, solid in the wind? Must email you soon about places in Cork, haven't forgotten :)
Yep this was the Comeraghs, the tent is the duomid. I'll get those corner guys sorted and it should be graaaand
Nice one Jason glad you stayed out 👍👍
I can’t believe I was looking at the trangia 27 apart from the fire !😳 what your thoughts on it ?

Was that up in the Knockmealdown Mountains
Close, this was in the Comeraghs
Really enjoyed that jason, lovely looking edible dinner as well, jesus
😄 I'm sure the steak would have to be cooked a bit more for most people. I would have eaten it raw I was that hungry 😅
Is it just me, or the minute you decided to pitch, the wind grew muscles?!
😂 The weather definitely detriorted rapidly once I set the pack down. Just my luck
Ah lad whatever about upsetting that father & son by wandering around the mountain, you definitely pissed them off with the smell of that steak drifting up the mountain as they tucked into pot noddles!!!! 😂
The steak hit the spot but I wouldn't had said no to a pot noodle while I was waiting 😄
