Exploring Isle Royale National Park
Finally posting a video from a trip we took to Isle Royale National Park in May 2023. This was the opening weekend of the area and the weather was fantastic. A ton of moose sightings right outside our cabin. Fantastic hiking on this island with beautiful views of Lake Superior. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed in this National Park.

    Great review...highlighted something for me about the new Dragonfly set up. Question - so as it is now with new clip system, you can't really set up as a fly and footprint only set up? Can you confirm that please? Do you think you could sew in a small piece of webbing with a grommet to the fly corners to be able to achieve that (or even a grommet attached to the corners just with a small cord on a loop?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures Месяц назад

      Confirmed, yes you cannot do a fast fly set up in the new version so will need the tent to stake out the fly. For the grommet idea, are you wanting to be able to just do a fast fly? Trying to visualise what you're talking about.

    This was the best overview of the Dagger Osmo that we've watched, nice work! We noticed you commented in another video that you have the MH Skyledge 3 dp. We bought one in 2013 and loved it so much we bought a second as backup/parts after it was discontinued. Hundreds of nights spent in that tent. Curious as to your thoughts on the Dagger Osmo as a replacement that would shave a bit of weight, or what you would recommend?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures 2 месяца назад

      I think if MH updated the Skyledge with today's materials it would be stellar tent! But yes, so the Skyledge I have is the 3P but it's comparable to the 2P sizes of the Dagger. It has very similar footprint (rectangular) and very easy setup. Dagger comes with more bells and whistles and I loved the little windows on the Skyledge, though I had to reseal them after about 5 years because of delamination issues, but also probably why you can't find tents with those windows as well. Both have the Jakes foot attachment, but I don't like how the Dagger is integrated. Definitely a good replacement for the Skyledge IMO.

    Thank you for this good explanations. Can you build up the Nemo without the inner tent only with the foot print and the rainfly when it rains to protect the inner tent from getting wet?. I think this is a big issue in areas where it rains offen. If not how do you deal with the set up of the tent in heavy rain?

  • @amirasassmann1795
    @amirasassmann1795 4 месяца назад

    Thank so much you for this very helpful video. Is the tent waterproof or only waterrepellent? Could you make a Video with Nemo Dragonfly osmo vs. Big Agnes Copper spur? Which one performers better under heavy rain and bad wind conditions? Which one has the more durable Material? And what is ment with live time warrenty? Do Nemo give support, when a tent pole brakes or a zipper won‘t work properly anymore?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures 4 месяца назад

      The tent is waterproof. I do have a video on the Dragonfly vs Copper Spur (2021 versions) ruclips.net/video/_llM6QHnBPY/видео.html here you can review. The newer Dragonfly OSMO should perform better under heavy rain due to the new material. Both are pretty decent during bad weather. I do prefer the higher bath tub floors during windy storms though because it prevents water and other debris from getting in. NEMO's lifetime warranty would be on the construction and design of the tent or a manufacturing defect. So if a tent pole breaks because of normal wear and tear then they wouldn't replace the whole tent for it. However, if it breaks because of a design flaw or faulty material then they would replace it. You would send the tent in for inspection to NEMO. Same thing with the zipper. It depends. For some of those reasons, I like to purchase NEMO products from a retailer like REI because you have 1 year to return it if the tent doesn't work out for you.

    Great recipe! One tip would be to pre-cook the pasta and dehydrate, rather than using out the box pasta. Boxed pasta is essentially 'raw' and used in this way you're cooking it rather than rehydrating it as you are with the other ingredients. You'll cut wait time and gas use significantly doing this ahead of time.

    What a thorough Video. Thanks so much! I have a question about the 1P Version: I'm less worried about rain coming in via the U shape cut out on the head area, since the bathtub floor extends very high there, so there is enough overlap between fly and bathtub floor. I think the bigger Problem is the none door side (1P Version only, obviously). On this side, the fly doesn't go down to the ground either, but contrary to the head end, the bathtub floor isn't extended there - so there is basically no overlap. Any Issues with rain coming in from this side when it's windy?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures 9 месяцев назад

      You should be able to adjust the fly to be close to the ground but not all the way. The fly does extend a bit out to the side so rain shouldn’t get in and you have about 4-5” of bathtub floor. I’m extremely windy storms though I can see some rain coming up, but we’re talking a lot of wind to force the rain up and under.

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures 9 месяцев назад

      I really like the harness with the exception the front chest straps don’t stay tightened but it doesn’t really the ability for the pack to stay. The pack clips don’t 100% stay clipped so I would need to check them every once in a while. Remy is wider on too so I do wish you could adjust the width the pack could lay over the top. But for the price it worked really well and went 150 miles with no quality issues

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures 9 месяцев назад

      It's 4-6oz heavier for the bikepack, but some of that is because of the stuff sack for the bikepack as well as the landing zone. So I would say only 1-2 oz heavier for the bikepack if you remove those pieces.

    I have a 2021 tag xl boondock that I bought about 1.5 months ago and I took it on a 2.5 week camping trip up to Michigan. I’m in Cincinnati Ohio area which was about a 500 to 550 one way trip. My Subaru pulled it great. On my trip there was 2 different things I didn’t like about it. Now remember I am 63 years of age. First thing I didn’t like was it was hard but doable was changing clothes in it which I found a 5 by 7 tent that actually seals around the door as long as you have the little kit for around the door that looks like a J channel and the tent actually seals around the door so no bugs or rain can get in. I just got this tent yesterday so have not tried it yet but watch a few videos on it. The tent will serve as a place to change clothes plus in middle of the night you can use a bucket to go to the bathroom in. Win win with the tent. And the second thing I didn’t like was the two 3 inch foam mattresses that come in it for a bed. But I have a foldable cot that I have used in the past quite a few times and it is comfortable. So will take them mattresses out and put the cot in there and yes it does fit perfectly in there. Plus the benefits with the cot that it will give you more storage area under the cot. But other than the 2 things I loved camping in mine and already looking for a couple places out west to go next year when I get my vacation time. Over the next 3 years I will have everything paid for and I plan on going completely to the nomadic lifestyle. Also there is a way you can set up a tankless hot water heater on the side and you can take a shower in a 4 by 4 canopy with walls I have. Life will be good in a teardrop.

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures

      I have one of those changing tents too and have used it to put in a portable toilet and shower station. I stacked both mattress up which helped but agree the mattresses aren’t too great.

    I would argue that the underwear that absorbed the most but dried close to the fastest should be the winner. Comfort is a huge thing with underwear and I found that while some underwear is faster drying, they were also more uncomfortable because it did not wick the sweat from your body, so it felt like wearing a trash bag sloshing sweat around. So my opinion is that the underwear that managed to balance the rate of absorption and drying the best - Patagonia1 - is the winner for me.

    Glad you are getting out with the baby. It’s hard to get fun time away as a new mom. Great setup!
