One Small LEGO Piece That Changed Building Forever.
What is the height ldu difference between a headlight brick and a technic pin hole brick?
I think the revamped 1.0 version looks much more buildable if you were to ever post it to LEGO ideas and it doesn’t seem to have any illegal techniques, even if it doesn’t look as good visually.
giving me a wonderful idea for a great ball contraption module... ramp
I can see that working really well!
I actually prefer the older design (and your update) because it makes the obelisk look like it's made out of chunks of stone. The other design has better corners, but looks cobbled together, rather than stone.
I see what you mean
Seeing you stack the obelisk without the core made me wonder about 'Lego Jenga'... 🤔
I'm in!!! I'm making lego jenga next!
@bricksculpt Yes!!! ✊️😃
No parrot?
No not in this one
The odd-goblet method.
I like that name
Wasn't expecting anything out of the video, turned out to be quite interesting. Thanks!
I'm glad you liked it!
I love the progress and how detailed your videos are. Pure pleasure to watch and listen.
Thank you very much!
I wonder what the most complex lego piece is... not a model set but a single piece.
Interesting question. Not quite sure
Return it and demand your money back.
It seems odd that you didn't make the instructions in normal reading order (left to right, then top to bottom). Is that how Lego does it?
That's how studio did it
Here's a suggestion for a brick to focus on: part # 3386, Brick, Round 1 x 1 x 2/3 Half Circle Extended with Stud on Side. I'm honestly not sure WHY Lego made such a part but it can be useful in spite of how oddly specific it is in its differences from common bricks (SNOT, *partly* rounded AND only 2/3 tall? It's a very very odd combo). Seriously, this brick is the Lego equivalent of Mariner telling Boimler she was afraid he might have been trapped in a dystopian San Fransisco.
Ahh yes the D snot piece. I have a video planned for that one already
I dont even build with lego lol so not sure why im here but im enjoying learning and watching the problem solving
That's awesome to hear thanks!
I can easily imagine the stepped version being a lego ideas set instead of the smooth version, where we build the obelisk by segments and the instruction manuals explains about the LDU. That would be a great gift for AFOLs that are really invested in Lego
Yeah I like that idea!
8:47 you could just make a big 2x2 Pilar and let them slide with it in the middle
I love both methods, both of them show off different but adjacent skills, and look great for different reasons! I don't really have anything insightful to say but I did want to say thanks! <3 I hope you enjoy your vacation!
Thank you so much!
and they said tapering in lego was hard!
Lol right
Enjoy your vacation 👍
Thanks, I will!
2025 Bricksculpt will explode to trending 🙏
That's the goal!
Next challenge, build Obelix 😝
Always
I love this, but please explain your opening assertion that “one brick is 20 LDU’s wide.” Why 20? Is there a theoretical or practical explanation for 20? Why not some other number?
Not totally sure. It seems to be the basic dimension that all elements are based on.
1/2 LDU ??? :O Now I want to see that!
Yuck don't know if I'm capable.
Great demonstration! I wonder if this could be done vertically to make a smooth incline alongside the modern road system for more vertical cities.
Yeah just turn it into snot on snot otherwise the jumpers won't work.
"And it's gonna look like it barely sticks out because it barely sticks out" I love maths.
Lol
This just means that it IS possible to do 1 LDU differences in layers, and I'm wondering who will be crazy enough to try it out. I suspect that the top piece will need to be made bigger to accommodate for the sheer amount of space needed to add goblets (unless neck brackets are used), but theoretically it's possible.
Not sure if it is or not but not sure if I want to find out lol.
@@bricksculpt we demand it!
hoooooly shit that smooth obelisk looks AMAZING
Thanks!
As "clean" as the smooth-faced obelisk is, I do definitely prefer the stepped version, personally; it just looks more 'Lego' to me, and that feels like the point of making an obelisk out of Lego in the first place, instead of just 3D-printing one with perfectly smooth sides or whatever.
I get that makes sense
Very cool. Thank you.
Glad you liked it.
The obelisk will follow you to the grave. Ironically and somewhat morbidly, it could literally be your grave, too.
Lol you figured out my plan... jk
This series is incredibly useful. I love the gradual ldu increments. It looks so smooth. Amazing. Thank you
Thanks I am glad you find it useful.
Now, use a 1x1 modified tile with a clip. You can have an adjustable goblet with stud.
Do you know the name or number of the piece for your big oak tree at 13:28? The round connector with the prongs?
LEGO Plate 2 x 2 Round with Four Vertical Bars (65738 / 98284)
If this is as far as you can take the obelisk with something with discrete connection points like System (bricks, tiles, plates), I wonder how far you can take it with something with continuous connection points like Technic (beams, axels, pins) or Bionicle/Hero Factory/Mixels (ball joints).
lovely! thank you for another great video. is good to see you channel growing!
Thanks!
Excellent! Thank you for indulging us, haha!
You're welcome!
The smooth-sided obelisk does look much nicer as an artistic creation, but I think the evened-out stairstep obelisk is a better "Build it yourself" model as the sections make for natural progression steps and it's much easier to assemble both from parts and if it gets knocked over and breaks.
Yeah I see what you mean.
Where can I buy the table top mat that you have on your desk?
Rebrickable but I think they are unavailable.
Where can I buy the table top mat that you have on your desk?
that makes it obelisk 1.1b
I'm going to use that lol
Have a wonderfull vacation.
Thank you!
This is a meta-comment on several "half LDU" increment comments. First, as pointed out, if each layer is one LDU smaller, and you want it centered, then each layer cannot connect to the next layer up -- you have to connect to two layers up. This means you have essentially two separate towers, co-constructed, and they are not connected -- the second tower is not attached to the base, and only held by the "adjacency". It means that each layer needs smooth tops, as the studs cannot be connected. But all that is doable. It means that the insides have to have all the magic, and LOTS of space -- each tower layer needs to connect up two layers higher, and not disturb the other tower's internals. All of this is doable. And if the "hidden strangeness" is inside the layers, and half LDU per-side difference, you are nearly as smooth as the smooth obelisk. In fact, I want to know how you made the outside of that smooth obelisk without any visible steps even as you have to remove studs in the process -- you can probably do something similar to make the outside of this monstrosity smooth, even as smooth tops between layers does not actually attach anything.
Lots of good info there to consider. If you want to see how the smooth Obelisk is made watch the Obelisk series it's all show in the videos.
Amazing!
Thanks!
This man won’t stop until he exposes every last lego build technique and I am here for it. Whether I can comprehend it is another story.
I can't wait for the day he uses the "lego" text on top of studs for something
LOL I'll do my best
That is actually worth talking about cause it actually messes up the system at times
you should have used different colloered bricks, like all tiles in red, and so on. and write the measurements on the tiles
Yeah I used different colors in the next video
Apparently all roads lead back to The Obelisk
Yes lol they do
WE WANT THE HALF LDU OBELISK!
we demand the full half ldu!!
If you could actually get it down to a 1 LDU difference so that the per-side change would be 0.5 LDU, would you need to shrink the definition of LDU so it was still the smallest fundamental distance?
I'm not sure lol
The point is that there is an increment every 4 units, with transparent walls you can get arbitrarily small increments, and you can get them at all (height) units :-) (sorry, you are going to hate me :-) )
Yes that is true
@@bricksculpt wow, you took time off your vacation to confirm that now you hate me, lol :-) (relax, I'm joking I understand you answer. Please have a good time off and answer us when you are back! Your channel is amazing)
ruclips.net/video/RKGzrUSGp7c/видео.htmlsi=6BYVYFiQx9vWgaJb Hey everyone, check out this LEGO inspired real world creation I stumbled upon! I'm probably never going to do this myself, but if anyone else has the inclination, I would like to know. Same pattern problem with the masonry imprint, but that could be fixed by making an even number of layers. Cool idea though!
