They don't have a clue how to take care of a dog. 2 next door have been fastened up since they moved in and never seen the street. That is something I haven't seen yet is worms in the soil, found some mole tracks but no worms, but must be some some where of no moles as they eat them.. You only been here 1 year so do you have your resident permit yet as my friend has had a house here for2 year and still can't move in. I moved here nearly 5 years ago so had no problem as came under the Portuguese accord so just got a plain ticket and walked in. You alone here, no husband I have no wife as she left 4 years ago. No not me the problem, her daughter couldn't do without mummy. So I have very big house and small farm and just me, alone, and funny because I have a view of Estrel or how ever you pronounce it from my house as well.

Your attitude towards the animals is - responsibility! I appreciate it. It's not just, let them give some food, play with them and pet them... and then at some point , we disappear and abandon them(as the owner of that dog). Animals bond with us, they love us, so we shouldn't get involved if we are not capable of being responsible and take care for that animal for a long time! You reacted in the right way.👍🐾❣️

I can relate to people giving you a hard time trying to help stray and abandoned animals and then getting judgmental comments about your doing it the wrong way or you didn’t do enough you need to start a rescue. I have had similar experiences with my fur family. My first dog I got from a rescue and she was very young when she had her first litter. She still looked like a puppy but you could see that she had just recently weaned a litter. Other people adopted the puppies and I took the mother. She is still with me. She is 11 years old and is a wonderful dog. When I first got her and took her for a walk people would ask questions about her and I would explain she is a rescue and she just finished weaning puppies. Some people assumed the worst and thought I let her get pregnant that early. The rescue found her pregnant and I adopted her after she weaned her puppies at the rescue. Different countries have different ways of control noing their animal populations. Some are more human than others and different people have different situations so if someone is willing to help an animal in any reasonable way we need to celebrate that and try to be less judgemental especially when your not the cause of the situation.

I’m so sorry people had to be nasty. It is the same situation in France. Our friends ended up starting a rescue but they currently have 60 cats and a huge vet bill that donations don’t cover. It’s hugely stressful but no matter how much you love animals you cannot save them all ❤❤❤

In my village, animals run free. It's not anything to do with the animals. I stopped at the grocery on Friday and found a dog who was confused, and desperate. No collar, someone had dumped him. I couldn't save him because I have 3 cats and 3 dogs. And I am also very sick. I tried all the people who send me massive emails for help and no one responded. I felt so guilty. But I couldn't bring him home with me. I have been here 7 years and the culture regarding animals is painful for me. Your character and personality give me joy. Portulaca, that little succulent ground cover, is such a joyful little plant. Loads of flowers. Grows and spreads every spring/summer and dies off on the winter before returning again the next spring.

You acted responsibly in regard to School. The owner counted on you taking care of him and shirked his duty. You did the right thing. Pets are expensive we know. Olives marinated in herbs and garlic..yum. Walls are beautiful👏🏼👏🏼.

As a frequent visitor to Portugal I can confirm that the way many people doesnˋ t care for and how badly they treat and abandon dogs and cats is a very real issue. Everywhere you go, in citys or in the countryside you encounter them. It´ s so heartbreaking. All dogshelters are full to the brims all over Portugal. It´ s also very intimidating meeting a pack of ”wild” big dogs when out walking my own small dogs, there have been many cases when they have attacked. People should think before going on the war path berateing Suzie for not taking care of all animals turning up on her doorstep, it simply isn´t possible.

That weed you said looks that looks like a succulent is called PURSLANE and it's VERY VERY VERY NUTRITIOUS TO EAT. LOOK IT UP GREAT ON SALADS TINCTURES ETC! White vinegar, salt and dish soap kills weeds dead. Doesn't hurt wild life or the cats too. It will kill the weeds dead. Look up the recipe online for white vinegar.Weed killer.

Dear Suzie, i’m sorry about the negative comments. I know how hard this must have been for you. ❤ I’ve been watching since day one and seeing all you’ve been doing for all these poor stray/ animals and see how their owners just let them roam free and abandoned and not take them inside at night or even feed them or give them the care and shelter they need. You’ve been dealing with it from day one there at your property. And he was lucky to have you there while you could but it’s not your responsibility “continually” do this! The people who were making those comments must have no idea how there really isn’t much infrastructure Or places for you to turn to turn to in this country compared to other countries. Its to bad to be in a country that doesn’t have better care strategies for the improvement of pets health and welfare, for neutering/ spaying and places to turn to or take them in if an owner can no longer care for them for them to be placed into a wanted home. I love it when you go on walks. Before I became disabled I used to love rambling around the countryside but unfortunately many walks just aren't accessable to wheelchairs or scooters. There's so many places I would love to take my poodle Pablo for walks. But memory is a wonderful thing so I get to remember the walks I used to go on. Keep making memories. ❤

We went scuba diving in Honduras on the island. There are very similar issues there and Mexico. We stayed on a key in Honduras where the resort had hosted a group of vets and assistants traveled from the USA to attend to illnesses of the dogs and cats as well as having them neutered orspay In some instances, they are so inbred they can't help them or are too sick and have to euthanasia them. It's very different in other countries. Finances of the countries as well as culture are a thing. Be well.

Don't lose sleep over the negativity of people towards your actions. You most certainly don't have to justify your actions (especially since people are not in your shoes) keep on smiling and being exactly who you are.

Exactly 100 percent right about dogs and cats in Portugal. At first it was shocking to me being from the US but in Portuguese culture, especially rural areas, animals are viewed differently than what we are used to. Dogs for the most part are seen as working animals and mostly live outdoors and work to keep predators away or work with other farm animals. Cats are mostly on their own like you say although people are friendly to them, they are on the land but usually not inside. In the larger cities you'll see small dogs on leads as pets and indoor apartment cats. In the rural areas, local folks think that we're odd to let our dogs inside the house and put sweaters on them and take them for walks. There are a huge number of dogs in shelters in rural Portugal and it seems like almost every town has one. They are all in serious need of volunteers and donations. How about you folks that like to criticize someone else for doing their best for their life and situation (while entertaining you by the way) you consider making a difference yourself and make a donation to a local shelter. Most are online and take donations from anywhere in the world. I enjoyed the lovely walk, it was breathtaking!

The suculenta that you have is Beldroega, is good for soup and salad, is very used in Alentejo cuisine. You can ask a neigbour or use RUclips too see how to use it to prepare food.😊

I offered you financial help because the cats are not yours and it should not come out of your pocket. I am Portuguese and I as well as other Portuguese admire the English culture as well as American culture where everything is organized including the care for all animals. Portugal is poor.
