- It's been a wild weather week and suddenly I am overrun with cats and kittens. Work continues on the stone wall in the OLD STONE KITCHEN that is part of a TINY HOME renovation project and I test out my woodburner for the first time.

School the dog 🐕 has been re-homed with a new owner so the story ends well 😀
i could swear that the bigger grey cat is the mother of the kittens. So with that being said theyvery well might be your cats babies. He is a good daddy and brought them over for you to help feeding them. 😘
Yes she is the mother. They are still feeding from her. I think one kitten belongs to another tabby, and one is Beijos. Apparently cats can have a mixed litter from more than one male cat. I will try to get the female sterilised. I can’t neuter all the male cats
Oh that's really sad that no one was feeding School after knowing he was abandoned. In my opinion, if the owner abandoned it in the village where there's people around, I wouldn't put it past him to abandon him again where there isn't anyone around. It's a shame that no one in the village stepped up and fed the poor thing.
The owner has now found a new home for School so all is well. Now he will be taken care of in the way he deserves 🐕🥰

I am a fan of yours loved how you done lots of your projects and definitely as of today your comments Towards the beautiful Dog had given me sadness he gave you unconditional love and cared for you and when his owner neglected him you no different. The price that is paid to live in the Mountains is hearing many different kind of animals and barking is warning of what’s in your area. Dogs are Protectors

I am sorry you feel this way. I choose not to have a dog because I go away quite a bit and I am unable to have the responsibility. He is now back with his owner where he belongs. I did the best thing I could for myself and for School 🙏

Leaching in plain water takes a while. You can do them faster with a little caustic soda in the water; you need to change it every day. After a while less colour gets into the water. I tend to rinse them each time then put more soda in if they're still too bitter. Obviously rinse them well when testing them and when they're done.
We store them in brine using a 10% mixture i.e. 500g salt to make 5l brine. fish them out a few at a time into a jar with less strong brine so they're handy to eat.

all my cats have been strays.i feed around 2/3 strays and i have one that adopted me full time.they need fed but you can keep them ouutside in a small cathouse/kennel where they will be able to remain free and dry..they will keep vermin down too..your place is coming along nicely...a few cats around the place is a sign of a loving home.
I have no problem with feeding the stray cats. There are plenty of warm dry spots around the outside of my house. Yes, there is certainly enough love here for them 🥰
Very sad about the little dog. I thought the pounds were not a place to be. Sad so many animals who totally depend on humans are neglected or treated without love or thinking twice about their feelings or fears. Understand responsibility can be difficult to keep up with. Possibly not a good future for him. 😥😥hope someone will adopt him and give him a safe home.
@@Cici447 his owner has him now and is trying to find him a new loving home rather than leaving him out on the street
So nice to hear owner is trying to rehome dog. There are lists and lists of animals everything from rabbits, lizards, snakes, cats, dogs, horses etc. on humane society and other groups, some private, trying to find homes for animals here in canada….often people relocating, can no longer afford, or just not wanting anymore and left in fields, roadsides and on and on….its heartbreaking! We have a coyote problem in our area, can’t leave cats outside. So many asking for others to keep an eye out for their missing cat….Never knew about any of this before so have become sensitive to the issue. So nice to see how kind you are to the kitties that don’t even belong to you….🥰
I am devastated for School. He must of been so distressed and hurt from being abandoned. As humans, we don't deserve dogs. School was such a good boy. As a single woman, I have always had a dog until the past few years after my last dog's passing. There have been several incidents where my dog saved my life. I once had a man try to get into my bedroom window, and my dog woke up and charged at him thru the window. Another time, a man tried breaking into my back door, and my dog handled that situation, as well. They make fantastic alarms for noises you cannot hear. I hope wherever School is now, he is at peace.
He actually seemed quite happy and I am sure he was very happy to see his owner again. He’s trying to find a new home for him

If you don't already own one, you might look into purchasing a Dremel set. This tool would have been helpful with making that cut in the wooden rod. Dremel tools help with sanding, cutting, engraving, grinding, cleaning, and more

Fill the gaps with wood putty. If you can’t find it in stores, you can make your own with saw dust and wood glue. Definitely look into getting a dremel. Very handy for small jobs like that.
Also, Portugal has spay/neuter programs. Look into those for all the cats.
You should start a donation page so we can help you get the cats spayed/neutered.

Build them a little house outside in your yard where they are sheltered from dogs and the cold. So they are safe. Cats hunt also mice.

I have lots of pure blacks here in VIrginia. We have lots of black and white strays so I see pure blacks often.
Please consider to have them spayed and neutered. I would like to contribute to the cost. Maybe others would to.

Chances are that young they could have worms.
I will keep an eye on them. I think it was more lack of food as they have put on weight this last week since I have been feeding the 😀💕

I have become the cat woman in my neighborhood. Here in the States, I live in Virginia we have organizations that will come and capture them and take them to the vets to be spayed then released or taken to cat adoption centers. We had so many cats at one point i think the city made it mandatory to spay so many stray cats for free a year. It helped tremendously to reduce the population. Maybe you could approach your local government to create something like that to reduce the population.
They do that in some areas in Portugal but not in mine. It is a big problem here. However, here there is a lot of nature for them to be wild and free in which is what cats like to be 😀💕

Hi Suzie, how cosy that fire burning makes your lounge. A pot of soup on top, a good red Portuguese port, and some music! Well done, with door repair decor and wall in ye ole kitchen. Are your grapes the same as the ones used in Rogers vineyard? Poor school, crying for the home he had. Cruel people don't deserve to own pets. I hope he is adopted by a caring person. I hate to think he was starved. Your tabby mother will look good once she fills out and her two babies are lovely. Yes she needs op asap or ....the little ones only prob in 5 months time . They will keep snakes away! A cosy home in carport maybe on top of wood for warmth and overhead covering and they will be fine. Thankyou for caring!🐈🐈🐈🐈🦮

you could try a bit of wood filler in the gap in the door, you did a good job. If you are letting the cat stay even in the barn area, then you might want to get the mother cat spayed or you may have more kittens in a few months time.
@@deborahfoss904 wood filler, why didn’t I think of that. The cats currently just come for food but go somewhere else, not sure where, to sleep. I’m going to see what happens. If they stay I will get them all neutered before the Spring 😃💕

Hi Suzie, the mother cat seems to be done with feeding the two young ones...its imperative to have her spayed now as she will fall pregnant again. The babies can wait until 6 months old, so thats no problem. You saw Bejos sniffing her...omw ! 😢 Tabbies are so pretty, but this one has been neglected and with babies taking from her. Also fleas!! Speak to local vet about them arriving...an unexpected drain on your budget and see what can be arranged.For your peace of mind. Can Roger feed them if you go away? Nice to see him smile in today's video! Lovely to see all that rain, washing off dust and soaking the soil.🍷🍇💛💐
Hi Nicolette, the mother cat is still feeding them. The cats here mostly live wild and people feed them generally with scraps although I give them cat food. If I’m away they will hunt food and seek it from other people in the neighbourhood. I am surrounded by nature and it is the perfect environment for cats to be wild and free. I might set up a go fund me page for them if I need help financially to take care of them, for worming, flea treatment etc. it’s quite costly even just feeding them all. The rain has refreshed the land and green grass is reappearing as the sun shines too ☀️💕
That's good to know, that when you leave, neighbours keep an eye on your place, and feed cats. I miss having a cat, and when I helped local vet with caring for one,at my home, my granddaughter was bitten by a flea and had nasty reaction. That put paid to fostering. So I enjoy watching your collection. Having them around gives life to your place. I now feed a variety of birds, you know Robins are soo tame, and fly into lounge to demand, also a squirrel!😊

There’s a product called wood putty you could put it in there and then furniture paint it

@@dreamlifeportugal It is also possible to mix up some wood glue and sawdust and to make your own putty, which is much cheaper and you can stain or paint that as well. And it is handy to have some wood rasps of files. They have a very coarse surface, and they come in different profiles so that you can rasp or file curved shapes or rectangle or triangle shapes. But they leave a coarse surface which you can finish with some sandpaper or a metal file.
It is also better that you do not burn the bark from the tree. It doesn't burn well, so you get less heat, and it produces a lot of smoke and soot which is not beneficial for the stovepipe.
You can get a stove fan that you can put on top of the stove and it doesn't require any electricity, they are powered by the heat from the stove, and it helps to spread the heat in the house, and to keep the walls free from moisture.

Looks like the bigger one is the mom? You know that a litter of kittens can be from more than one father? That is why you get such a different color mix (I assume lol). Perhaps the storm got the mom disoriented or chased her out of her current home? Just a thought. I hope that there is some type of "catch/fix/release" veterinarian in your area. LOL Good luck!!

Sadly, I was not able to take the responsibility for him as I leave the house a lot. It’s for this reason I don’t have my own dog. I love dogs, I used to own one but in this moment I cannot care for one in the way it should be cared for. I hope you understand 🙏💕

If I were you I put the food out, somewhere they won't disturb me. They would find it. They are animals. They find therir way. Some will survive, some will die. There will be always cats around.
I put the food outside the door for them now which works well for them and me 😀💕

Ya cats can become a problem, ask the local vet if they can come and sterilize the cats, usually with abandon cats they do it for free i belive, or at least they used to when i was living in Portugal. Because they will strat to procriate and 4 will become 11 in no time, and triple that even in lesser time. it's very sad that still alot of people abandon their animals...

You need to keep your cat separate! Stray cats can carry various diseases that are contagious for your cat! So I would try and keep them separate
They are all wild cats including the one I allow in the house, although I treat him for fleas etc. 😀💕

I understand your sadness. It was not an easy decision for me. I made the choice that was right for me as I am not in a position to take care of a dog, feed him, vets expenses etc. The other people in the village were annoyed with him and the owner took back the responsibility that was his. School has now been housed with another person so the story ends well. 🐕🥰
