Happy New Year - great to see a woman getting used to using power tools!! I’m on the same journey. After quite a bit of research I got my first chain saw a year ago and I bought a battery powered Ego chainsaw with a 16” blade. It wasn’t that cheap but as I’d been paying for logs for the log burner it will have paid for itself by the end of the winter or before. I absolutely love it and it’s been fabulous. Like you I was wary of it however and that’s no bad thing. To begin with I watched some videos (v varied, some outright dangerous) and read the user manual carefully - it had some tips on cutting technique as well as details of the saw itself. Very useful. When first using it I did it with my partner who has used chain saws a fair bit and he gave me some pointers which were very helpful. This video is quite a good guide even though it’s not for your type of chainsaw and he’s a beefy American! ruclips.net/video/QrUhAhWe-Jw/видео.html A couple of points from my limited experience - The chainsaw bar looks quite long and you say it’s heavy - may not be ideal for you (most of them probably designed with men in mind!) I use a saw horse which helps a lot - please make sure anything you are cutting is really secure (sorry if that’s stating the bleeding obvious!). It’s easier to cut at that level and you don’t then risk the bar hitting the ground which can cause kickback and blunt the chain. One of the most useful tips I’ve had is how to cut - he talks about this in the video. You don’t want the saw bouncing around. Don’t be put off - find out what you need, stay safe and then confidence will grow with practice. Happy sawing!!! Here’s a link to the type of saw horse I use - not expensive and you can cut down as there’s no horizontal bar. www.toolstation.com/einhell-log-saw-horse/p47312
A good tip is probably to tighten up that chain. Being tha loose also makes it more dangerous. Might want to change the chain anyhow, cause that seems *Extremely* blunt.....
15:20 - Now that you have the tarp on to kill the weeds, rather than later start to dig up the soil, I do recommend rather considering doing a "no dig" garden as described by Charles Dowding (also from the UK). He has quite a few videos here on his RUclips channel (for free), as well as books and courses to help you starting a no dig garden. Less work. Less weeds. I have been doing no dig now for over a decade and it is really a superior method of gardening. Hope this helps.
Happy New Year thank you for the videos through the years and wish you courage for the projects in 2025 well done even with a few challenges ahead but good luck see you again next year cheers bye
I find that the battery/electric chainsaws are less intimidating than the gas powered. I think it’s just the loudness of the gas chainsaw that’s intimidating. As long as your chain is at the right tightening and you’re cutting blades are sharp shouldn’t have a problem.
From others I’ve watched the chain saw must be running before you touch the wood. You could have used a log or two to roll the pole. It did seem the chain was too loose as well. Where’s Roger? Couldn’t he have helped you? Using one of those things by yourself is foolhardy. What if you’d got cut or otherwise hurt? Experienced people have more safety gear. That thing could have slipped and half cut your leg off. Glad you’ve resolved to not use it again, at least until someone has worked with you with it. Even professionals have accidents. Wishing you a healthy, happy New Year.
I like to think I’ll be able to wield a small chainsaw once I have my Portuguese home, but as someone who cannot cut vegetables without cutting a finger I’m not sure that I should be allowed to 😂
Woohoo🎉🎉🎉. Hopefully, you’ll need the chainsaw for smaller jobs like cutting kindling for the fire. Wishing you further enjoyment and success in developing your little piece of paradise in 2025 and beyond❤.
Love to see a woman feeling she conquered a task she thought impossible! Congrats 🙌
Me too 😀🥰
I’m 76 years old and have been using my electric chain saw for years with caution of course. Chain may need a little tightening.
Yes I was just thinking that. 👍
Yes, it seems it does need tightening. Thanks 🙏💕
EXCELLENT. I'LL LEAVE 1 TIP WITH 2 X-SHAPED BOARDS AND THE BEST SUPPORT FOR CUTTING!
Thanks Antonio for the tip. It’s much appreciated 🙏🥰
Hi Suiz. It's Raquel you did a great Job Like always.I Pray you had a Wonderful Christmas 🎄.Love Raquel. And have a Happy New Year 2025.🥳.
Hi Raquel, I wish for you a year full of dreams come true 🙏🥰
Any chainsaw needs safety clothing, you'd be in big trouble very fast if things went wrong. The chain appears to be loose in the extreme.
You are right Annie. I didn’t even think to check the chain. Next time I will be more awake 😅🥰
@dreamlifeportugal Best you do unless you like hospital food!!

Happy new Year to you and the Puss Cats
Thanks Patricia. Happy New Year 🥳
Hope you don't mind but the chainsaw chain needs tighting for safty sake
Thanks Martin. You are right. I didn’t even notice that and I will make sure I do that 🙏💕
Good for you Suzy. There is a first time for everything. Now you know how to use a chainsaw :)
Well kind off 😂😂

I agree. I will tighten the chain before I use it next time 😀💕

Thanks for your care. Happy New Year 🥳💕
If the log is too big and there’s room underneath you can come from the bottom up.
Thanks for the tip 🙏
Sawing motion looked dangerous. 😬 Think just holding chainsaw still and let it do the sawing is safer. 🤷♀️ But, what do I know...chainsaws scare me.
I think you are right. I just needed to hold it there. Next time… Happy New Year 🥳🥰
@dreamlifeportugal Happy New Year to you too. 🎉🎆
I enjoy your channel and absolutely love your home and location.
My home was 4° this morning X
Yes, it’s getting colder! But the sun ☀️ still shines 😀💕
I like to think I’ll be able to wield a small chainsaw once I have my Portuguese home, but as someone who cannot cut vegetables without cutting a finger I’m not sure that I should be allowed to 😂
about to move into my rural house in Viseu and still too scared to switch on any power tool let alone use it😮
@@lisacraig4585 I can relate 😂
Especially in Portugal where it seems that plugging in any one thing if another one is running will trip the circuit 😳
Anna, you will be surprised at what you may want to try. I never thought I would use one 😂🥰
that extension is on the road and not flat, very dangerous
The road is not used so it was quite safe. Happy New Year 🥳🥰

Thanks Lisa. I am sure the chainsaw will be out again at some point. All my pear trees near a good cut back 😀💕
Feliz 2025
