I'm so very sorry to hear that you had some nasty cruel comments regarding School. You made the right decision for his welfare, his owner deserted him and he needed his owner to take responsibility for him, not you. It is obvious to anyone who watches your channel that you are a lover of animals and nature, just keep doing what you are doing, all God's creatures need someone with a tender loving heart like you have Suzie. The view from Monsanto was spectacular but oh boy what a steep walk, I'd never have made it even half way to the top but the walk through that tiny village with its cobbled streets and stone walking path was just gorgeous. Hope you enjoyed your coffee and catchup with your friend. Looking forward to next week's video. Much love from Australia xxx
It has taken me many years now, to ignore online comments. I am literally a psycho magnet. I could comment something as simple as "the sky is blue" and some trolls will seek me out to argue the point, or mostly to hurl insults at me. I used to get so enraged. lol Now, I just ignore or block. They are bored and clearly have no life. You do YOU, and let the rest fall by the wayside. Enjoy your beautiful life, and as always, thanks for sharing it with us. 🙂
Everyone on my channel is normally so kind and compassionate so it came as a bit of a surprise. I know it’s just part of RUclips life. I just felt a need to speak to it in this instance. Thanks for sharing your experience 🙏💕
I love your kitchen you have done such a good job of cleaning the stones and pointing them. The cat with the kittens will need dressed now as they can come back into season as soon as the kittens are a few weeks old. Enjoying your channel very much. Thank you.
Hi Suzie you did great regarding school his owner should never have left him behind the hell with those who sent nasty comments your way I love that view
So sorry you have had some comments about skool. Living in France for years, it is the same there, more with cats than dogs. However, a lot of the village dogs lived outside in kennels and were never allowed in the house, which as an animal lover, I found hard to see. There was a huge colony of feral cats only a few doors down from my house, an older man fed them and, of course, they bred every year, two litters to every female and the males would fight, get injured and infections. the average life span of them was about 2-3 years long..it was hard to see. France does have animal chariteries, but they are not so accomodating and cannot take every stray dog and have even less room for cats. Take heart that some people viewing know the plight of animals and the decisions you make are done with kindness...
Hi Elizabeth, it’s true, no-one likes to see dogs and cats homeless. I honestly don’t think the cats see it that way. This is their natural way of life being wild and free. The two little kittens seem very happy 😀💕
You do not need to defend yourself. Portugal and Italy , the rural areas, are very similar in the lack of responsibility of animals.I enjoy your videos because of your kindness, and compassion about life. In my village, animals run free. It's not anything to do with the animals. I stopped at the grocery on Friday and found a dog who was confused, and desperate. No collar, someone had dumped him. I couldn't save him because I have 3 cats and 3 dogs. And I am also very sick. I tried all the people who send me massive emails for help and no one responded. I felt so guilty. But I couldn't bring him home with me. I have been here 7 years and the culture regarding animals is painful for me. Your character and personality give me joy. Your stories are positive and that's who I see ! Love from Abruzzo, Katie
I am so sorry to hear that you got some nasty comments last time. Anyone that has watched you for a while, knows that you are a kind and loving spirit.
Don't lose sleep over the negativity of people towards your actions. You most certainly don't have to justify your actions (especially since people are not in your shoes) keep on smiling and being exactly who you are.
I can relate to people giving you a hard time trying to help stray and abandoned animals and then getting judgmental comments about your doing it the wrong way or you didn’t do enough you need to start a rescue. I have had similar experiences with my fur family. My first dog I got from a rescue and she was very young when she had her first litter. She still looked like a puppy but you could see that she had just recently weaned a litter. Other people adopted the puppies and I took the mother. She is still with me. She is 11 years old and is a wonderful dog. When I first got her and took her for a walk people would ask questions about her and I would explain she is a rescue and she just finished weaning puppies. Some people assumed the worst and thought I let her get pregnant that early. The rescue found her pregnant and I adopted her after she weaned her puppies at the rescue. Different countries have different ways of control noing their animal populations. Some are more human than others and different people have different situations so if someone is willing to help an animal in any reasonable way we need to celebrate that and try to be less judgemental especially when your not the cause of the situation.
As a frequent visitor to Portugal I can confirm that the way many people doesnˋ t care for and how badly they treat and abandon dogs and cats is a very real issue. Everywhere you go, in citys or in the countryside you encounter them. It´ s so heartbreaking. All dogshelters are full to the brims all over Portugal. It´ s also very intimidating meeting a pack of ”wild” big dogs when out walking my own small dogs, there have been many cases when they have attacked. People should think before going on the war path berateing Suzie for not taking care of all animals turning up on her doorstep, it simply isn´t possible.
Your attitude towards the animals is - responsibility! I appreciate it. It's not just, let them give some food, play with them and pet them... and then at some point , we disappear and abandon them(as the owner of that dog). Animals bond with us, they love us, so we shouldn't get involved if we are not capable of being responsible and take care for that animal for a long time! You reacted in the right way.👍🐾❣️

Portulaca, that little succulent ground cover, is such a joyful little plant. Loads of flowers. Grows and spreads every spring/summer and dies off on the winter before returning again the next spring.
You acted responsibly in regard to School. The owner counted on you taking care of him and shirked his duty. You did the right thing. Pets are expensive we know. Olives marinated in herbs and garlic..yum. Walls are beautiful👏🏼👏🏼.
That ground covering is a type of Portulaca and it is my FAVORITE flower!!! It spreads very easily and often has multiple color blooms. I used to buy it every spring in different color blooms, and it's beads would fall off onto the ground and into other pots and then it would pop up through my cement pavers LOL. It is a succulent. Loves sun!!
Dear Suzie, i’m sorry about the negative comments. The people who were making those comments must have no idea how there really isn’t much infrastructure Or places for you to turn to turn to in this country compared to other countries. Its to bad to be in a country that doesn’t have better care strategies for the improvement of pets health and welfare, for neutering/ spaying and places to turn to or take them in if an owner can no longer care for them for them to be placed into a wanted home. Be strong in your decision. Even though it was a hard one to make!! I will miss seeing Skool as Im sure you will too!! I pray for him to find a new responsible owner! ❤
Thank you Teresa for your kind and caring message. It’s very much appreciated. I do miss his presence and it was not an easy decision to make. However, now I have my cat family 😃🥰
The suculenta that you have is Beldroega, is good for soup and salad, is very used in Alentejo cuisine. You can ask a neigbour or use RUclips too see how to use it to prepare food.😊
I love it when you go on walks. Before I became disabled I used to love rambling around the countryside but unfortunately many walks just aren't accessable to wheelchairs or scooters. There's so many places I would love to take my poodle Pablo for walks. But memory is a wonderful thing so I get to remember the walks I used to go on. Keep making memories. ❤
I am sorry to hear that you are no longer able to ramble. I will share more walks as I discover them. It brings a joy to me that I can bring them to your home 🥰

Maybe their hearts are in the right place but they don’t articulate their thoughts in a positive way. Whatever it is, you made the best decision for the right reasons 🤗
I am sorry about the negative comments received. I think the fear people may have is that Skool would be placed in a shelter or abandoned again. We can only hope he is in a good place.
You have done so much to improve your home. The succulent ground cover looks like Purslane, an edible plant. Maybe look it up for your benefit. Best wishes to you. ❤️
@@dreamlifeportugal Purslane is related to portulaca. But not the pretty flowers. It can be used for stir-frying, soups, stews, sandwiches, eaten raw. Not sure about tea… My information is from a book titled “Backyard Foraging”, by Ellen Zachos. Life is good!
Exactly 100 percent right about dogs and cats in Portugal. At first it was shocking to me being from the US but in Portuguese culture, especially rural areas, animals are viewed differently than what we are used to. Dogs for the most part are seen as working animals and mostly live outdoors and work to keep predators away or work with other farm animals. Cats are mostly on their own like you say although people are friendly to them, they are on the land but usually not inside. In the larger cities you'll see small dogs on leads as pets and indoor apartment cats. In the rural areas, local folks think that we're odd to let our dogs inside the house and put sweaters on them and take them for walks. There are a huge number of dogs in shelters in rural Portugal and it seems like almost every town has one. They are all in serious need of volunteers and donations. How about you folks that like to criticize someone else for doing their best for their life and situation (while entertaining you by the way) you consider making a difference yourself and make a donation to a local shelter. Most are online and take donations from anywhere in the world. I enjoyed the lovely walk, it was breathtaking!
We went scuba diving in Honduras on the island. There are very similar issues there and Mexico. We stayed on a key in Honduras where the resort had hosted a group of vets and assistants traveled from the USA to attend to illnesses of the dogs and cats as well as having them neutered orspay In some instances, they are so inbred they can't help them or are too sick and have to euthanasia them. It's very different in other countries. Finances of the countries as well as culture are a thing. Be well.
I will use the information I found on the Internet. I will not pickle them but put them in a herb infused brine. It’s my first time so let’s see what the results will be. I will share what I do 🥰
There is no sign on it. It’s possible to maybe find out who owns it from the local camera and make contact with the owner or ask an estate agent if they could find out.
What a lovely walk rewarded by a beautiful view. I'm curious about what lies behind the wall you took the tiles off and where the french doors are that looked out to where the kitten was playing. You may have given a plan of your house/property before and I've missed it. Could you make olive oil with the black olives? Is that hard to do? How long can you keep them in water? All the best:-)
Hi, I will show in this weeks video about that walk and behind it as a few people have asked about it. The French doors are at the back of the house overlooking my small vinyard. I could indeed take the black olives to the local olive press to get them made into oil although you need 8 kgs of olives for even one litre of oil! So a lot of effort for little reward. In the water for a couple of months and then once in brine (water/vinegar with salt in the fridge for a good year) I think I will have eaten them all by them 🫒 😋💕
@@dreamlifeportugal Thank you so much for replying. I was hoping you would just include the answers in your videos. I have a new appreciation of olive oil. I love green olives too:-)
Hi Susie, now thats a "keep fit" daily walk! How long did it take, incl a stop and admire properties and view? Have you thought about being an estate agent...or is Monsanto inundated? One could add,a property for sale at the end of post, or is it not allowed on utube? Mmm, just a thought for a little super tip info for viewers wanting to buy a quiet escape. Your kitchen wall, reno was worth the effort, lovely. That " weed" is a herb used in salads...check it out. I saw it months ago on google. Asian i think? I too was concerned re the security of your car in road. For safety sake perhaps bring it into yard for the night. Drunk drivers, hooligans, drug addicts, stealing your tyres for resale..its a target...and you rely on it! These perps will have no insurance or conscience. Better safe than sorry. Perhaps when olives are picked, that spot under tree, perfect, tucked against wall, alarm on and spotlight. Your investment needs to be protected..🐈🍷🌻🤔
Hi Nicolette. It only took me 45 minutes with all my stops for video footage. All those things you mention regarding my car just don’t happen here where I live so the car is quite safe with plenty of space for even tractors to pass. Only my couple of neighbours drive past very infrequently. Apparently the weed is purslane, and has very good health benefits so I shall be trying a brew of it ☕️🥰
Yes Peter there is. I started parking it there because it’s under the shade of the tree during the summer. Presently, it would be in the way all the time if I park it the other side of the house and I prefer not to see it from the house. It’s actually perfect parked there 😀💕
If possible get the mommy cat sterilized... no more unwanted babies... seeing many offered to contribute to the costs... its a SAD scenario world😢 wide....
It’s a roof that used to cover the area by the water storage tank and outside oven. It was removed before I bought the house but they didn’t entirely finish the job 😅💕
Don't complain about the olives as many this year have had very few too none at all. That's right 3 rd week in Nov is the normal time. You sound like me as I have worked with animals for decades being a farmer and grower. I don't know about the cats but the owners of dogs are in my opinion are the worst in the world. They don't have a clue how to take care of a dog. 2 next door have been fastened up since they moved in and never seen the street. That is something I haven't seen yet is worms in the soil, found some mole tracks but no worms, but must be some some where of no moles as they eat them.. You only been here 1 year so do you have your resident permit yet as my friend has had a house here for2 year and still can't move in. I moved here nearly 5 years ago so had no problem as came under the Portuguese accord so just got a plain ticket and walked in. You alone here, no husband I have no wife as she left 4 years ago. No not me the problem, her daughter couldn't do without mummy. So I have very big house and small farm and just me, alone, and funny because I have a view of Estrel or how ever you pronounce it from my house as well.
@@robertlee6479 I wasn’t complaining about the olives, just saying they were ready early on this tree. It’s a particularly old tree and its olives are so big. I’ve actually lived in Portugal for 5 years and got my residency under the Brexit withdrawal agreement. I have a man in my life but we currently don’t live together. Thanks for watching 🙏💕
I offered you financial help because the cats are not yours and it should not come out of your pocket. I am Portuguese and I as well as other Portuguese admire the English culture as well as American culture where everything is organized including the care for all animals. Portugal is poor.
YT nominated your video. The vehicles that passed were not all 4x4s, most were sedans or passenger cars. I also pull pests out by the roots whenever possible. This plant that you said looks like a succulent is called: according to Wikipedia "Portulaca oleracea, commonly known as purslane (generic name that it shares with other species of the genus Portulaca), belonging to the Portulacáceas family and the physiognomic type of therophytes. On a global scale, it stands out that it is extremely widespread in Europe." [Wikipedia]. Use the app to recognize plants, very useful as a starting point for researching plant identification. Also talk to locals who could be very helpful in this regard. Ahhhhh, purslane is considered an edible plant, so correct identification is necessary in order to avoid situations you are not familiar with. The situation of cats and dogs is regrettable, I suggest that you talk to the Chamber in the competent body so that they can open a campaign to recognize and neuter them and subsequently place them for adoption. Great job with the stone wall. 🪷🕊️🌿

I am sorry about the negative comments received. I think the fear people may have is that Skool would be placed in a shelter or abandoned again. We can only hope he is in a good place.
Yes, I completely understand. I believe that he is now been cared for as he should be 🙏💕
You have done so much to improve your home. The succulent ground cover looks like Purslane, an edible plant. Maybe look it up for your benefit. Best wishes to you. ❤️
Thanks Sharon. Everyone seems to think it is purslane. I am thrilled as I will definitely be using it for tea ☕️🥰
Your walk was beautiful. May be worth getting the mother cat neutered before she gets pregnant again.
I’d get them all neutered unless there will be a shed load of poor kitties surrounding your home ?! 👍❤️
I will as soon as the kittens have left her side 🙏💕
Thank you for such a long educating comment and caring support. I’m glad you enjoyed the walk. I can’t believe I only just found it 😀💕
The Portuguese government will spend 135 million euros on travel next year. This money should be distributed properly in society
❤❤❤
We went scuba diving in Honduras on the island. There are very similar issues there and Mexico. We stayed on a key in Honduras where the resort had hosted a group of vets and assistants traveled from the USA to attend to illnesses of the dogs and cats as well as having them neutered orspay In some instances, they are so inbred they can't help them or are too sick and have to euthanasia them. It's very different in other countries. Finances of the countries as well as culture are a thing. Be well.
It’s the reality sadly of a lot of countries. But the people still care about them 🙏💕
Do you have a good olive pickling recipe?
I will use the information I found on the Internet. I will not pickle them but put them in a herb infused brine. It’s my first time so let’s see what the results will be. I will share what I do 🥰
19,25 mn; this plant its callded; baldroegas and it is good to eat!!!
Thank you for sharing the name of the plant. Seems it is good for tea ☕️ and soup 🍜 😋🙏💕
Is the house without a roof for sale?😊
I love green olives too:-)
@@cambbrown6205 your welcome. I like to reply personally to everyone’s comments 💕
Chem trails in your sky! 😢
Contrails....just vapour from the aircraft's exhaust 😊
Just vapour from airplanes up high. I never hear them though 💕
Ignore the trolls, just way too much time on their hands. Block them keep them out of your life.
Check out Purslane...your edible weed. They grow on pavements and gutters in my C town suburb. Imagine, Woolworths putting that on shelves!!!!
That’s cool. I read it’s very good for you. I will definitely be trying it out 🙏😀💕
Wash it well...thank goodness puddy tats dig holes to wee!!🤭
Apparently the weed is purslane, and has very good health benefits so I shall be trying a brew of it ☕️🥰
Why do you leave your car parked outside ..surely there's a parking space inside ???
Yes Peter there is. I started parking it there because it’s under the shade of the tree during the summer. Presently, it would be in the way all the time if I park it the other side of the house and I prefer not to see it from the house. It’s actually perfect parked there 😀💕
If possible get the mommy cat sterilized... no more unwanted babies... seeing many offered to contribute to the costs... its a SAD scenario world😢 wide....
I will once her kittens are a little older and don’t cling to her 😀💕
What are these tiles that you are removing? Is it the roof of another building?
@@susana1129 thank you Susana for your kind offer 🙏💕
Hi Silvia, nice to have you here and thank you for all the informative information 🙏 I think the cars were a touring car club as I saw them later parked up in the local village square and visiting Monsanto 😀💕
