Very cool video. Nice to see an overhead view of what we see on Virtual Railfan's Santa Fe Junction live cameras! It's a great place to railfan both virtually and in-person.

Amazing video. Six cameras couldn't capture what you did with the drone. Adds a whole new perspective to why it's Santa Fe Junction.

That drone is all over the place, I grew up from 3rd grade on in the metro, about 20 years overall, in a shot looking north in the first minute or so, you see the monument beyond 31st street, you get the shot of the tower formerly known as KBMA/Business Mens Assurance television, at 31st and Summit, right across the street is WDAF and about 8 blocks east is the formerly known KCMO-Tv tower, now used by the PBS station, the area is known as signal hill, I lived about 8 blocks south of the hill twice, and for the life of me have to look at a aerial view to place that trackage now, it blends in so well.. i knew KC terminal railway and amtrak headed west then south leaving Union Station otherwise east... in the days before amtrak was a dream, the Station handled many passengers going all different directions, now you basically have the Southwest Chief once daily each direction, and some more or less commuter trains across the state, however the majority of the office jobs, many from downtown there, have all homed in in Overland Park, about a 20 minutes drive southwest, making those who moved to better neighborhoods and cities north and east years I mean years ago have to drive to work or in some niche shopping way out there. Don't get me going about the downtown loops traffic jam. I mean pattern, ill be here for days, its almost always keep moving left as each lane, in many cases dumps into exit only, so until you get to Van Brunt/Hardesty exit its a mucking fess.

This crap is underexposed.

Much better than the crap a certain RUclipsr by the name of bnsf* does.

Great Video..!! So how long can your drone stay aloft, and how far away from you (the operator) can it fly, and still return? Very curious about this technology!

Did you need special permission for this? The flightpath for the downtown airport goes right over Santa Fe junction.

At 2:14 on the left side is an old rail roundhouse.

Santa Fe Junction is literally on the Kansas City, Missouri / Kansas City, Kansas Border. You can see Union Station in the background. The tracks around Union Station are owned by the Kansas City Terminal Railway. All rail lines running through this maze of tracks are joint owners. This was done, so all rail lines were treated fairly, in access to Union Station and routing through KC. Just rail minutes away are the Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, KC Southern, Union Pacific rail yards and former yards of other lines. Years ago, the evening Amtrak line was on the lower level. The train was sent to a siding and crew had to flag traffic on Southwest Boulevard about 29th Street, to wait until they could get passage to Union Station. Several nights I had to wait for this train, while heading to my favorite Mexican restaurant.

You might want to do a sound check.

This is very cool. I grew up in Lenexa, but shipped out for the navy after high school graduation in '89. Lived far away until 2 years ago now I'm back in KC..Overland Park. I love driving through old downtown Lenexa. I wish the old downtown got as revitalized as the old downtown OP instead of just moving town center out west.

Enjoyed watching your aerial view puts a whole different angle and a change from continual lineside video's but in saying that watching from the UK makes railfanning more attractive from a distance . Thanks for doing this .

Just noticed at 3:38 the lead loco on the NS train going over the other line is NS's Penn Central Heritage Unit.

Most of the Drone footage I've seen ends with them hitting a tree. You are a good pilot, sir!

I used to work in this area! The library at 2:23 had a great bay window where you could watch trains! Not in 2020, though. Too bad.
