I know this sounds stupid, but can you do a speculative biology version of a hot pocket? Just some poor mollusk that people nuke and eat. (nuke is a colloquial term for putting something in the microwave.)
@@nettlesandsnakes9138 that sounds hilarious!

This new interpretation of long is really good. I suggest you do a four legged dragon with pseudo-legs next. Reinterpretating the ark giga would also be cool

Speculative Wildlife Research Center, Interesting. I never would have thought reimagining them as mammals would have worked

How big is the long?
@@XavierOsorio-d5z around 5 meters
A mammalian dragon that managed to take over the crocodile niche was not what I had expected, but it all worked out amazingly. They are such a close match and would be a very imposing beast for most people, and I can see them even as normal animals becoming a symbol of rulers as they control the rivers, which were vital for human societies.
Imagine Dragon that cursor to the like button!
It would make more sence to make them synapsid proto-mammals.
@@Guyverman01 how?
@@speculativewildlife Their quasi-reptilian features.
Dragons are fish let me explain you see fish are a type of order of animals like mammals right wrong the word fish is more a description of an a aquatic animals in fact celocamp (not entirely sure that i typed the name correctly honestly) celocamps are known to be related to camels more then the common salmon so every long cockatrice etc are not related biological standard but are more of a term for a type of creature that is essentially a giant reptile that humans either worship or fear at least that’s my opinion
Very interesting take! Now here are three bird-related suggestions: Kongamato, Bennu and The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs!
Mythology: Deities capable of affecting the climate with their mere existence. Reality: Giant, well-stretched, semi-aquatic ferrets that live like crocodiles and take shelter like beavers.

0:45 It sounded like you were trying not to laugh at that pun as you read it out. Don't blame you.
@@jackswan3420 honestly that is 100% the case
It's fitting you have this version of Chinese Dragon be a mammal, since it does have several mammal-like characteristics. It's like a weasel or otter with pangolin scales.
True!

Thanks, will do! :)
would yo do Hai Riyu which is a dragon bird in japan
Sure!
At first I thought It was gonna use algae or something as hair, but the moment you started describing it as a mammal, changed the way I see this creatures entirely. The habitat, the scales, the mane, it all falls into place perferctly. Its so simple yet so fantastical at the same time, that I can perfectly picture this in the real world. I can´t express how much I like this one, really, thank you so much
Thank you so much! I am very glad you liked it, and its really cool how well these fit as mammals!
I want to make speculative evolution world of dragons myself and I have a unique idea for my dragons. I have the idea to publish the project as a book and to expand the world but I haven’t done concept art or research for the project but I will start on the project in due time ( who know🤷♂️) so any great art and lore dude
Thanks, and that sounds like a good project! Good luck with that!
I really like this take on the Long. It reminds me of how RJ Palmer reimagined Dratini and its evolutions as a giant salamander.
Oh I love that interpretation! Love his work! And Im glad you liked this one too!
Fantastic video I'm loving these non-dragon dragons
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
what is their status?
Least Concern!
I was surprised by the decision of the Long being an aquatic mammal, but after you explained the reason for it, it makes sense. Regardless, it looks outstanding! You did a good job making the aquatic counterpart to the Chinese Dragon, and I look forward to whatever pops up next on this channel! Keep up the legendary work!
Thanks a lot, Im really glad you liked it! And I certainly will!
@@speculativewildlife You're welcome! Also, since it's gonna be the year of the snake, I think a Basilisk would be perfect!
@ryonhatcher4561 most certainly!
When I initially saw the teaser for this episode I initially thought that it was going to be a type of salamander but I was pleasantly surprised when you made the Long a carnivoran. I like how you brought such a world renowned mythical creature to life in this episode and with how strange and beautiful the end result was I do look forward to seeing you draw more creatures from Chinese culture, I love the way they turn out especially with the iridescence. In the modern day how exactly are Longs doing? I know a lot of species of large animals endemic to Asian rivers are under threat like the dolphins but I’m assuming that Longs are being preserved due to their cultural significance. I actually have two things to mention here instead of the usual proposal. The first is regarding a commission I might make soon, I am not really in a good position financially where I can make a commission for an episode (if I can at all due to Patreon) so if I do I will probably do it through a friend of mine. Just keep that in mind. Now onto the main concept: Gromit from Wallace and Gromit! Sapience can come in many different forms and create many different kinds of culture, however some haven’t formed true societies like humans. For some like today’s research subject this isn’t necessarily an issue. The Lancashire Hound is a close relative to creatures like the American Werewolf though it is endemic to Northern England where it has made frequent encounters with the human race. This has unfortunately led to a massive population decline due to people not knowing how to properly care for such magnificent animals. There is hardly any information available about Lancashire Hounds so our research group hasn’t been able to figure out why they might have gone extinct, that was until recently. The IT branch of our research centre has picked up on a interesting breed of dog in the past few months that was claimed to be a beagle, however further investigation has revealed this to be a living member of the Lancashire Hound species to the astonishment of many. The owner however didn’t seem all that shocked, letting our staff chat to him over some cheese and crackers. The Hound, now referred to as Gromit, has let himself be studied to understand this bizarre species of canine and we have learned a lot from him. Unlike other Macrocanids he is a lot more dexterous with enlarged paws with no visible claws letting him grasp onto objects with ease which may have helped their early successes in the past. The Lancashire Hounds appear to be surprisingly antisocial usually only bonding with one or two other individuals throughout their lives and don’t hunt large prey, rather using tools to hunt and forage for sustenance. In the case of Gromit he was found at a very young age by his owner and raised to be an assistant to his inventing. Mr Wallace (the owner) has made a career in his community by providing unorthodox forms of regular services such as window washing, pest control and gardening among others and has brought Gromit along the same path, putting him through education and letting him get degrees in things like robotics (don’t ask us how he pulled that off) and constructing contraptions together for the past few years. Despite Gromit’s sapience he doesn’t seem to communicate very well with others due to the lack of a solid language for Lancashire Hounds so he is mute and unable to mimic voices like some birds, he doesn’t seem to mind this however as he uses different forms of body language to get his points across. There have been sightings of other Lancashire Hounds in the neighbourhood and evidence of them having a much more sophisticated culture than first imagined though we have yet to investigate these claims due to some *other* events surrounding Mr Wallace, like the elusive “Were-Rabbit” that appears to have been ravaging the neighbourhood. Gromit in the end remains somewhat of a mystery into the history of the Lancashire Hounds with even Wallace not knowing where Gromit originated from, just finding him somewhere in the neighbourhood but these two are inseparable even if they disagree on minor things sometimes so our team has decided to leave them in peace, for now, and let them continue with their “Anti-Pesto Humane Pest Control” business which we’ve been advised by them is “running smoothly” though Gromit was showing signs of doubt about that… All the best SWRC!
Long are indeed doing rather well due to their cultural value, hunting them is extremely forbidden and many areas where they live have been turned into natural reserves! Really glad you liked it :D Also, really excited to see what you have in mind for that! And I honestly love the idea of some baffled SWRC researchers having tea with Gromit XD Actually, can we borrow Gromit? His degree on robotics would be useful since Dr Robotnik was fired and Dr Jeff sadly passed. We may have a position for him.
I'd really like to you reimagine the Mimics (possibly some of the more weirder monsters such as the Otyugh for example) from DnD as plausible organisms that evolved to, well, mimic inanimate objects to both avoid predators and ambush prey Also, for a more spec evo take on the DnD Terrasque, I really like the idea of it being a species of Pseudosuchian that evolved to be large, Sauropod-sized herbivores that fill a similar niche to that of Elephants. What do you think of this?
I love your idea for the Tarrasque! And regarding mimics, something like a mollusk I think would be a nice way to work them out!
@speculativewildlife Most definitely! And I'm glad you like my idea
Well the first dragons were derived from snakes so the year of the snake is more of an unofficial year of the dragon 2 for me.
What are dragons if not adorned snakes, in a way?
@@speculativewildlife And the word for dragon comes from a synonym for snake.
Incredible video and I must say this sure was a nice surprise. Truth be told I was assuming your second take on the Loong would be some kind of amphibian though this mammalian route sure was interesting and another thing I must add is honestly just how good the artwork you did for it looks, it has a nice sense of dimension and real feeling detail I guess is the best way I can put it also those iridescent scales really do pop nicely. For my suggestion this week I was curious if you had thought about covering the Telchines of Greek mythology because honestly, I would really love to see how you could take dog headed mer-wizards and make them plausible animals.
Thanks a lot! I've noticed watery environments are great for giving depth, so they work great with long creatures! Very glad you liked it, and that idea sounds very fun! Maybe some kind of pinniped... with a twist?
@@speculativewildlife yeah actually now that you bring it up oceanic environments are great for those kinds of creatures and no matter what you end up coming up with there’s no doubt gonna be interesting.
Nice video. I hope to see more videos of dragons, of course we are in the year of the snake, but many dragons in their essence are bigger snakes
