I remember proposing that transformers (the alien robots) and transformers (the toy line) could be separate concepts, so what if, in September (the anniversary of the cartoon), you did the smaller, and cuter, Transformer Chameleons, that imitate the shapes and colors of objects they see, including toy trucks, using their tongue like the spring loaded blasters in the toys to catch prey and scare off predators (or near sighted TSA workers who didn't realize little megatron wasn't a pew pew until he looked around, poked her with his tongue, and skittered away)

This is SO creative. As someone who really like evolutionary biology and am working on explaining how Transfomers evolved in my own fan-stories, this makes SO MUCH SENSE it's embarassing I've only heard of it now. The colonial organism, the cephalopod-like transformation process ... EVERYTHING IS SO GOOD!!! Great job by you and Andrew, and I hope you don't mind if I take inspiration from such a wonderful reimagining.
Also, LOVE those TF references - seeing Sixshot was a treat!!

Maybe the reason Cybertronians don’t take on arbitrary shapes is that it takes mental effort to look like that. When they’re Protoforms they have, similar to Humans, increased neuroplasticity. Like a Human can easily pick up language they can easily shape themselves when young.

Transformers being colonial organisms does explain how they can transform and explains the convergent shapes between transformers and earth vehicles.
It also feels like this could be a sneak peek at how life will evolve on Sidus, with some also developing the ability to readjust themselves so easily. There are some fascinating evolutionary niches they can exploit with shapeshifting.

I must admit however that you have made the idea of a more organic Cybertron seem more plausible.

great video, i LOVE the idea that they're colonial organisms and i love how you managed to fit a lot of stuff from transformers stories despite all your new ideas, from the t-cog to the empurata reference, well done, you guys did your homework, bright side is that nobody has to worry about tyrest's cold construction kill switch or the matrix running out of spark juice
and the idea that sparks were formed AFTER the zooids actually combined is so interesting to me, i always tried to make the origin of cybertronians sparks first, then everything else later, but forgot the steps in between to make the actual organism, reversing that process ironically gives a solution to the problem
i will say that it's interesting that reproduction produces soemthing identical to its parent, which is funny considering repaints like the seekers, but also fascinating when considering the transformers in this world all still are very distinct from each other, i assume the apple can still fall pretty far from the tree with nature and nurture, or maybe two or more cybertronians can interface and combine zooids to essentially produce sexually to mix with each other's genepool, but i get that transformers sex likely won't be a very comfortable topic
still interesting to talk about in a comment section, i like the design quite a lot even though it's not explained too much, but it's called speculative evolution for a reason and it's fun to fill in the blanks yourself, like you can kinda guess how the hands work

I must say this was an incredible video especially in regards to the biomechanics of the transformers, such as the energon, protoforms, and what I guess you could call neurology of the transformers and honestly all the illustrations you did for this video especially the last Optimus Prime one look awesome also on the note of generally fan favorite extraterrestrials have you thought about covering Shadow the “ultimate life form“ from the Sonic franchise as it should be interesting to think about how a biologically immortal alien with all kinds of borderline magical powers could convert upon the general shape of your reimagining of Sonic and on the note of Shadow’s powers, it could also serve as an opportunity to make sense of chaos energy in the Sonic franchise given how it’s what’s behind the chaos emeralds as well of course all of Shadow’s powers.

Honestly, I was both surprised and confused that you were doing Transformers to start this year's series of videos. I was a tad skeptical on the biology of something that appears more machine than organic, until you mentioned Sidus the World of Metal (something a look forward to seeing get expanded on in the future). But now that I've seen the episode, I was very much impressed, though Transformers isn't really among the stuff I'm interested in. Regardless, you and Andrew did a good job fleshing these guys out so to speak. Anyway, I look forward to whatever comes next in this series! Keep up the good work!

Transformers might be my favourite franchise, at a tie with Godzilla. Despite not being directly based off of my version which had a more solid structure I do see where it worked in with whatever Andrew was cooking. Like the six limbs, chromatophores, protomorphs etc. This might honestly be one of my favourite episodes ever. Part of me wants to see a full continuity going along with this video with the more alien versions of the beloved characters. I might try to cook it up myself if I’m being honest 😅. Kudos to you and Andrew’s work on this amazing episode it’s a great way to kick off the new year and I can’t wait for what 2025 has in store for all of us❤.
Now tonight’s suggestion: Silver the Hedgehog!
Our future has been seen to hold many unique and diverse ecosystems many living in the scraps of civilisation. In many areas of the future world there are masses of ruins inhabited by creatures well adapted to survive there. A common predator wandering around these lands is the ferocious Silver Hedgehog. This animal is seemingly a descendant of the insular Sonic Hedgehog that somehow made its way to the mainland and began to flourish. Despite this close genetic relationship the Silver Hedgehog is quite different from its present counterpart in several ways. The most striking is its white appearance which is one of the inspirations for its name, the other being the metal deposits in its quills giving it the silver look. It gains these deposits from some of the metal rich foodstuffs it consumes such as beetles and sometimes detritus. Due to the added weight of these deposits the Silver Hedgehog is no longer as fast as the Sonic Hedgehog though still can run at great speeds. This is due to the fast twitch muscles which give it better agility when in a confrontation with an opponent and can almost make it seem like the hedgehog is teleporting. Due to the quick fatigue of these muscle fibres and the overall cost of a failed ambush the Silver Hedgehog will often stalk its prey for days on end using a weak form of infrasound to wear individuals down, striking when it sees fit.
The metal deposits in the quills serve another more important purpose than simply strengthening its physical defences, they give the Silver Hedgehog limited electromagnetic manipulation abilities. Channelling a charge through the quills on the top of its head and into special organs on the paws the hedgehog can manipulate objects in its environment to help solve problems and catch prey. This can also be used to physically repel enemies through some kind of force field and even fly in some instances. It is believed this ability came to be from extended time spent in cities where there is an abundance of metals and other conductors and it appears that some people may have tried to take advantage of this. The remains of a person believed to be a descendant of Dr. Ivo Robotnik was uncovered next to the fossil of an unusually large Silver Hedgehog, both believed to have died in a fight with each other after the mad doctor tried to train it. More recently there has been a more worrying update, due to the hedgehogs’ curiosity several individuals have escaped into our present via the Time Machine and are currently resting with their Sonic Hedgehog ancestors. These two predators are often quite respectful with one another, only the roughest and toughest getting into fights mainly around the mating season. Often coming to ties due to the Sonic’s speed and the Silver’s electromagnetism. Reminder to put better restrictions and safety measures on the Time Machine.

They way he designed the transformers what if was reversed the more animalistic forms could be the old Cybertronians looking like creatures looking similar too mythical earth creatures like eg. Primal having four arms?? ..etc
Then envolve too the more human like mythical creatures like winged bird creatures..etc.
Its an idea I had for years😂

@@speculativewildlifewell mechamorphs are also bio-mechanical organisms composed of microscopic creatures, forming a semi-liquid body. There most notable feature is that they can bond and enhance machinery using there mass, developing extra structures or simply increasing performance. This earned them the nickname “Upgrade”.
