Австралия
Добавлен 25 авг 2020
Rusty's Outback Adventures showcases our trips to various places around Western Australia, as well as how we modify our vehicle for touring the outback. Come along with us as we explore 'out of the way' places, check out our camping setups, bush cooking and tips on how to live off-grid.
Whether we're towing the caravan, the camper trailer or sleeping under the stars in a swag, we'll show you what we do and how we do it.
As a photographer, I never go anywhere without my cameras and my drone, so I'll share my photography tips with you, too.
There's also our 'In The Shed' section where we show you how we fabricate components to suit our camping, prospecting and touring needs.

2 Week Camping & Gold Prospecting Trip | Goldfields WA
In this video I'll be spending 2 weeks gold prospecting in the area northwest of Meekatharra, which is approx. 760kms north of Perth.
Accompanying me is my friend Gary, the maker of the Gazza Pig cookers you will see us cooking on.
If you are interested in one of these, get in touch (my email address is rmhyde58@gmail.com) and I'll forward your details to Gary.
At our first location, where we stayed for 5 days, we didn't find any gold, even though the ground geology supported the potential for gold.
It was great to finally catch up with Hettie and Johan, after corresponding with them for several months.
I appreciate their kindness and hospitality they showed to both of us, and I look forward t...

How To Install A Snorkel On a Nissan Navara D40 | A Step-by-Step Guide
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 месяца назад
In today's video, I'll be installed a Safari snorkel to my Spanish built 2011 Navara D40, which is fitted with the 2.5L YD25DDTi engine. The model number for the snorkel kit is SS731HF. The main reason for installing the snorkel is to give the engine the best chance of breathing cool, fresh air, rather than breathing air through the front guard, where the air could be hotter. The kit includes a...
5 Day Camping & Gold Prospecting Trip | Goldfields WA

Join me on a short 5 day camping and gold prospecting trip, southeast of Mount Magnet, about 560kms north of Perth WA. Time constraints only allowed me to be away for 5 days, but getting out in the bush and swinging my detector is something I'm always keen to do. The weather was quite hot, reaching mid 30C each day, and the flies were their normal annoying selves....a fly net is a must. Coming ...

Off-Grid Camping Battery Upgrade | AGM out, Lithium in!
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.Год назад
In this video, I'll be replacing the 2 AGM 100Ah deep cycle batteries in my canopy, with a slimline 160Ah lithium battery. Not only is there a weight saving of 26kg but I also get back some vital storage capacity that has been 'dead space', located above the existing AGM batteries. With this battery upgrade, we can run all the lights & fridges when camping, as well as having more than enough 12...
12 Day Camping & Gold Prospecting Trip

Come along with me as I head out to some live tenements outside Leonora, in WA's goldfields. I gained permission to be on these tenements and spent 12 days camping and gold prospecting, hoping to find my share of yellow rocks. I went on this trip with a game plan, to work the ground in a certain way. Even though I found lots of junk and evidence of others having been there before me, the theory...

This is the final video in this series of Goodbye Camper, Hello Caravan. The caravan is now licensed and I'll also give you a quick rundown on the work that I did to it, to get to this point. There are still a couple of things left to do, like installing the solar panels on the roof of the van, along with installing the grey water tank to catch the sink waste. Nissan Navara D40 Engine Failure | YD25 Oil Cooler Split

After 356,399kms the oil cooler on the side of my Navara D40 engine failed, allowing engine oil to flow into the cooling system. This caused the engine to overheat, resulting in a full rebuild. I then took it to Moyles Engines in Bunbury WA for a complete rebuild, as ...

@@RustysOutbackAdventures you are welcome

Hi Rusty Hope you are aware that many of the Audio Circuit Breakers do not trip out at the indicated Amp rating. (250A tripping at 130A Etc.). I prefer ACB’s rather than Fuses because you can Switch On/Off as required for isolation. But… I discovered a bad volt drop across the ACB terminals while delivering load current. Looked like the Smart Alternator cutting in & out. But it was actually bad ACB causing problem. To sort this out I ended up replacing ACB’s with units from Altronics. Then Tested their 250A ACB with 2000w Inverter powered from 2 X 120AH LiFePo4 Batteries @ 210A for 15min and they worked great. Problem Fixed. Only .01 Volt Drop. Hope this helps you & others out there. Cheers TJ in Casuarina WA (Auto Electrician)
Hi Trevor, thanks for the info relating to the volt drop across the ACBs....it's not something I've had an issue with, but definitely something to watch out for.
Hi Rusty Just Subscribed after watching Nanup video. Liked the tour around 👍. Had same Thuraya problem. Iridium Thuraya not working 3months ago. $1200 Thuraya hardly used… only refund of $500 but still waiting for part refund. So I dumped Iridium & went for new iPhone 15 which has Emergency Sat connection by holding 2 side buttons in. So… low & behold the next video up was you prospecting about 6 wks ago near meeka. We were north of Tuckenara at the same time. Prospecting with ML 4500. See you in next video. Cheers Trevor & Rose in Casuarina Retired (old Auto Electrician) & Computer Tech for HP, Honeywell etc. Then own business as Apple Computer Tech for many years when you could get down to component level.
Hi Trevor and Rose. Thankyou for subscribing. Shame about the Thuraya satellite meeting an untimely end. I'm happy with the new Iridium GO unit, but it is expensive to send text messages every day....Starlink is the way to go in the bush, especially now that Starlink have replaced my failed dish/router kit. I wish you all the best on your next prospecting trip.
Thanks Mate, gonna try this
Sorry for the late reply. I hope this idea is helpful to you.

It use to be worth while looking around old timers shafts, but if the area is listed on a Gold deposit layer, every man, woman, child, and dog has been on the ground. 50 - 150 metres downhill from the shaft is a better option, but it is also hard work. Everyone is going to go where the old timers found gold, so you need to get more adventurous with the surrounding area of where gold was found
G'day Slim, thanks for your comments regarding what's typically around old timer's mine shafts and how attractive the area is to every man and his dog. I agree that maybe the area away from the shafts might hold gold, especially on the lower slopes. That area where I was, is probably worth another look, but away from the shafts, next time. I've been looking at some of your videos and you seem to pretty well for yourself, so good luck and I hope you find plenty.
Hey mate do you have the link where you bought the snorkel from
Hey JB, I bought mine off eBay, so if you're Nav is the same as mine, just search for this: Safari V-Spec Snorkel Kit For Nissan Navara D40, Pathfinder (05/2010 - 07/2015).
Fe 10 and fe5 are stick on wheel weights for balancing tires
Thanks Bruce...others have also suggested that's what they are, too.
Ok you asked for input on your videos! Alaska USA here, definitely need to get a wind muffler for your mic so you can stop apologizing for wind noise on most videos. I’m your age and just retired me and my wife love detecting I also have a 5000. A two week trip I think is cutting you short of narrowing down a productive area. That being said if you get a chance watch the graf boys. He also prospects Australia, pay attention to the area and length of time Steve stays and his filming techniques he’s bin doing videos for a long time and does a great job with just his cell phone. We would love to see your part of the world some time soon. Enjoy life. Keep up the good adventures
Hey Bruce, thankyou for taking the time to comment on my video. I do have a fluffy looking cover for the mic but forgot to take it with me on this trip, so I'll definitely be giving it a workout next time. Having said that, it was really, really windy on this trip, so not sure how efficient a wind muffler would be at cutting down the wind noise. I try to limit my time away from home, to about 2 weeks at a time, but I understand what you're saying. If I could convince Mrs Rusty to come with me, then I/we would be able to stay out on the goldfields for longer. Happy gold prospecting to you and your wife.
You have to change your name from rusty to anything else. Enjoyed your vid. Hope Gary is ok , Cheers Gary
Yeah, thanks Gary....still working out what I could change my name to. Gary is doing ok but not quite out of the woods yet.
lizards take cans underground and their entry hole can be a long way from the target zone, I have been caught out myself.
Thanks Ann....I've also found a can down a goanna hole. I knew as soon as I detected it that it was probably a can, but I had to dig it up, just in case.
Great vid mate what settings do you run with on the 5000 cheers from Tassie
Thanks Sharon, I appreciate your kind words. The settings on the front panel are General; Special; Mono; Fixed. Within the menu, I pretty much run factory preset values (FP) for RX Gain, Stabilizer, etc but tweak the target volume. Under Soil/Timings, I run Special and 'fine gold'. I was running a Steel Phase unit but lately I've gone without it....I hope these settings help you.
New subcriber here . . Interesting video . The satelite gadget was cool . . Looking forward to your next vid already . . Till next time take care . Bye from New Zealand 👍👋🇳🇿🍻twa
Hi Roger and thankyou for subscribing....I hope you enjoy the channel's videos. Yes, the iridium GO appears to be a popular item amongst yachties, as well as outback travellers.

Thanks for sharing
Thanks Daniel, I hope you enjoyed the video.
There getting way louder as the ground heats up ..
Yes, I've heard that. I've also heard that storms can affect the way the detector operates, too.
@@RustysOutbackAdventures sure does mate spikes all the time ..I live in Mount Magnet and out often the hot rocks are getting noisier every time .,good luck hope you get on to some real soon ,,definitely getting harder .but it’s still out there
Thanks for that...I'm definitely due a change of luck, but I agree, it does seem harder to find, so I'll have to up my research a bit.
How come you dont set the detector to non ferrus and you wont detect the other junk 🤔 im new to this tho , so sorry 4 my stupid question 🙂
Hey David, not a stupid question, at all. The design of the detector and coil registers a 'disturbance within the electrical field' created around the coil but can't decipher the nature of the 'disturbance'...metal, gold, brass, aluminium, etc. That's why you have to dig every target.
@@RustysOutbackAdventuresok but 35 years ago my parents had a detector and you could switch from metal to non ferrus , couldn't you use an old one after you start digging around
I'm not aware of a detector that will let you switch from metal to non-ferrous, but I'll certainly have do some research.
Good stuff Rusty. Nice to have the time to scratch around. Great video mate.
Thanks Jim. I enjoy getting out in the bush but just lately I'm struggling for time to go more often!
I'm be surprised if your starter battery would go flat when sitting for a week. I can leave mine sitting for a few weeks and it starts with no problem. Plus i now carry 1 of those book size lithium jump packs
Hey Darren, with my old battery, it would start to go flat after a couple of days, but I must say the new Century battery in the Nav now, is way better. Are those lithium jump packs worth having in the car???
@@RustysOutbackAdventuresyes mate for under $200 the lithium jump packs are worth every cent for piece of mind. Even though my D23 Nav is a manaul i wouldn't be able to push it by myself as i do a bit of remote touring. Anyway Rusty i Always look fwd to seeing your vids👌👍
Thanks Darren...I reckon I'll have to check out the those lithium jump packs.
Well done another great video Rusty, I really enjoyed the trip away with you sorry I got crook but these things happen best regards Gary
These things can't be helped, Gary.
Gooday Rusty, thanks mate for sharing your experience out there my friend, and especially your safety and tools that you personally use, i enjoy all your vids and for me its reminding us all its not an easy thing chasing the gold even countless of hours on doing the research,,in real-estate its location location location, in the gold game its,,, patience perserverance, and knowledge and yes lets not forget the bloody hard work,,thx again Rusty and keep well my friend, ps keep the vids coming, cheers
Thanks RT, I appreciate your kind words. I totally agree, we do our research and hope it puts us in the right location, but it is hard work and sometimes for no reward. I love being out in the bush and I always enjoy the experience. I've just come back from 2 weeks in the bush and I'm editing the video now, so keep an eye out for that one....and I'm already planning my next trip, too!!

If your Satphone is a Thuraya it doesn’t work anymore
Yes, that's correct. Pivotel offered a range of replacement sat phones and I went with the Iridium GO unit, as it allows me to connect my smart phone to the device via wifi, and allow me to use my current contacts, etc and I can send text messages and make phone calls. If I download the Iridium mail app, I can then send and receive emails, too.
Try your iPhone with Avenza maps
I'm not familiar with Avenza maps but I'll check them out, thanks Trevor.
Hi mate. Where did you purchase the Starlink from? I believe you can get an adapter from battery to Starlink which lets you connect by 12volt.
Hi Trevor, I purchased Starlink online and brought the 'roaming' package so I can pause and unpause it when I'm not using it. I have heard that the new version is 12V powered, rather than the Gen 2 router that is 240VAC powered, which I run off an inverter in my caravan.
Hey Rusty. Just passed you on the Hwy heading north. Just letting you know that you have no indicators but the brake lights are working on the van. Have a safe trip
Hey Alicia, thankyou so much for letting me know. I checked the lights before I left home, but now it appears the left indicator doesn't work on the van....so that's something for me to fix, now that I'm home. Where did you pass me and what were you driving??? Keep an eye out for my upcoming video about this trip!!
I was going to do the same..on my baravan.
Hey Donald, if you upgrade the suspension, make sure you choose a standard length axle rather than a 'custom length'....makes it easier if you need to replace it in the future.
Hey Rusty good work , just wondering where you bought those meters from (the little black ones)? Thank you
Thanks Paul. I bought the little black panel meters off Amazon....it's an 'AiLi Battery Monitor DC 300V 100A Voltmeter Ammeter Voltage Amp Meter Gauge with Hall Effect Sensor Transformer'...search for part number 'UK-300V-100A-FBA'. Hope this helps.
Thanks Rusty for the fast reply, Thank you again
If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch, ok....my email address is rmhyde58@gmail.com
Great video Rusty, I’m sure you would get a job as a Snorkel fitter, sorry I’ve been giving you a hard time regarding fitting it before our next prospecting trip, best regards Gary
Great video. If you aren’t going to drive though an y deep water you are best to leave the small lower hole open. This will allow any rain water that is sucked into the skorkel to escape.
Thanks Peter...I ended up leaving that hole 'as is', to allow for any water to drain away, as you've suggested.
The top piece is called the Ram Head.
Thanks Darren. Yeah, I had a 'senior moment' but it came to me after I'd finished recording that segment!
Hey mate liked your video, you have a serious amount of clamps. From my perspective that tells me you're a man to be reckoned with, thanks, Mick
Hi Mick, glad you enjoyed the video. You can never have too many of anything, I reckon!!
Remember folks don’t wear steel cap boots when metal detecting other wise every step you take will be giving you a reason to dig for nothing.
That's true, Peter. Also, don't wear a watch or you might be setting off the coil, when running a scoop of dirt over the coil!
is there a engine oil cooler delete ?
Hi Mark, from my understanding, the oil cooler bolts to the block and has water in and water out hose connections on the outside of the cooler. To delete the oil cooler, some sort of blanking plate would be needed to bolt to the block, but deleting it could be an option, but not one I'd even considered.
Cheers Rusty, also looking at doing something similar. Also in Perth, thnx
If you go with a standard length axle, it will save problems down the track, should you need to replace it. You might have to look for rims with an offset to suit your installation...something else to consider when upgrading the axle, springs, etc.
Great video, thanks mate
Thanks...I'm glad you found the video helpful.
That's a pretty good camping setup you have there Rusty. I like the carrier for the quad on the drawbar on the caravan. The gold is pretty elusive at times eh. Currently at Yalgoo with the Mrs and will do some detecting tomorrow. The ground further north is very wet after the recent rain, so hopefully better here 😊.
Hi Mark, the camper set up has taken a few tweaks to get it to where I want it, but really happy with it now. The goldfields has had a bit of rain lately, so that makes getting around, a bit tricky. I hope you find some gold on this trip.
Rusty, would love to join you but will have to be next year mate, (medical issues)
I hope you get over your medical issues and back to full health soon.
@@RustysOutbackAdventures thanks mate
Great Video! Good filming and info, appreciate you taking the time to share your camping setup etc in addition to the gold prospecting. Id be keen to get one the "Gazza Pigs' if you can share details. All the best.
Thankyou for your kind words. If you would like to email me at rmhyde58@gmail.com I'll pass your details onto Gary, thanks.
That’s a balancing weight that sticks to a rim Instantaneous obviously the two-way sticker did not work very well
Thanks for the info, Carmine. I wonder if wheel that lost the weights, was out of balance enough for the driver to notice?
Those sat phones don't work anymore
You're right, David...the Thuyara satellite suffered a 'force majeure' (something must have crashed into it), so I've just upgraded to the Iridium GO unit. It provides voice, text, SOS and location messages, but has limited data downloads, but I have Starlink so I don't need it for data, just the ability to call and/or text someone in an emergency.
@@RustysOutbackAdventures I was prospecting up north got the message that it was down it stopped me from going more remote bummer $16.50 a month was great I got the 9555 at $65 a month not much of a choice
Pivotel are trying their best to provide customers with options, but there didn't seem to be much on offer....it was a toss-up between the 9555 and the Iridium GO.
Great video Rusty that was your trip after the chain broke on my Honda, the countryside was certainly dense, glad the Gazza pig worked well for you regards Gary
Cheers Gary...that was some trip, wasn't it.

I would like a PLB , one day will get one .. I keep my car and my van in view or if I can't see it I know where it is at all times ... And yes it's hard going through the bush with caravan on the back mine is 20 foot
I believe a PLB is a 'must have' so even if you never use it, you always know that if you set it off, someone will find you....even though it won't be instantly.
Hi Rusty , you not the only one struggling to find gold , I live in my caravan so I been out around coolgardie for bout 3 months now.
