Would you have any camera suggestions for someone looking to upgrade from an a7s3 to something with a more pro/cine build? The V-Raptor of course ticks a lot of boxes but that price tag is out of reach for a lot of us. Is there a mid-range option?
can you do a video suggesting different camera set ups at different price points for people getting into wildlife filmmaking
Definitely! Is there a range you're interested in specifically?
@@TruthLegend say starting at an r5 kit to something like the red Komodo and different budget configurations
Looks like a great location to film eagles and you captured alot of nice sequences.Iam curious if you had a separate sound recorder, if it was connected to the camera or if sound was done in post?
A little bit of everything you mentioned. We are working to develop a sound library for the videos, use internal recorded sound, and we do add some ambient sounds in certain areas.
It feels nice to hear pros like you struggle with the same problems I have doing my videos of wildlife. Like when Eric said he just did something and then realized he should have recorded that 😀
All the time!
Superinteresting video. I have used gopros as they are for wildlife filming but it has always been a challenge with power and other things. I wish I had seen this video a long time ago 😄 Thanks for sharing 👍
Yeah power is almost always the issue it seems. Thanks for watching!
Love this channel!!!
Appreciate you!
Nice one mate. Do you carry the fully mounted camera, rig and lens in the ICU? Also do you prendere the Sigma to the Canon 100-500 RF?
Yeah, it's a fully mounted rig (camera, lens, rails). The monitor and batteries are disconnected. The range on the sigma is nice, but the Canon RF is lighter and just as sharp or sharper. We're just cheap 🤣
Love the way you handle the build. All beyond my budget but one day….. thanks.
Keep at it! Thanks for tuning in
Dudes. I know it’s tough building up on RUclips but I hope you stick with it coz I’m loving what you do 😊
Thanks! Yeah it's tough. Anything you'd like to see more or less of?
Well, I probably represent a significant proportion of your viewers, in that im a photographer who's interested in expanding into film. So, at this point, everything is of interest. What i really enjoy about your videos is the relaxed rapport you have with each other and the clear depth of your experience. Personally, at 60 years old, I have no aspirations to become a professional videographer. However, I do want to create compelling wildlife videos. I'm interested in how you find the story and all the problem solving you undergo to tell the story. The trials and tribulations you discuss in this video are exactly the sort of things I mean. TBH, at this point, everything is learning for me. @TruthLegend
I'm up in Breck...theres moose everywhere!
Yeah there are! It's great to see them doing so well up there.
Loved wild and exposed because you guys talked wildlife from a still photography point of view. I want to learn to shoot video with my R7 but I am having a real hard time finding video help on how to set my camera etc. you guys got pretty heavy into video cameras and setting which leaves many of us in the dark. Doesn’t seem any of you shoot stills anymore so I am not sure if your videos will be of interest to me down the road. Maybe an instructional show or two to help educate folks on how to set up and shoot using their conventional cameras would be great. Thanks
Thanks for the feedback, we will keep that in mind! Brandon shoots a ton of photos still, so we'll work to discuss that more in future videos. Is there anything specifically we can cover with stills right now?
the camera be like: i bet my human loves this the human be like: i wish i could see what im recording
🤣
It's Alaska. There are always bears, wolves, and hunters. You are right...the problem is photographers, specifically the out of towners like yourselves who rely on this to make a living off these animals. Most of you abandon ethics in favor of making a buck. You and mooseman squat on these moose for the entire duration of the rut, hoping for that big payday. Your methods are unsustainable, which you are finding out the hard way the last couple of years. I warned mooseman about this years ago when I saw that greed in his eyes. His response was, "They'll just go somewhere else." No truer words have been spoken by mooseman. He did the same thing in New Hampshire many years ago. Another photographer who shared an area with him, begged and pleaded with him to throttle back and split time with him in this particular area to minimize their impact on the wildlife they were photographing. Mooseman's response to the guy was, "Not on your life, buddy!". I'm starting to realize "professional" photographers/videographers cause more harm to wildlife than any other group. It's the primary reason why the superintendent at Denali National Park terminated the "professional" photographer permit program years ago. You tourists brought that Yellowstone mentality to this once special place. I saw you guys out there yesterday with a dozen or so others photographing those two bulls. A local photographer grabbed an image of one of the bulls with all of you standing elbow to elbow in the background. That image tells the true story. How's that for "Truth"?
Solid review 🤙
Appreciate it!
Glad you’re back! I was hoping you were just busy shooting and nothing was wrong. Looking forward to season 2.
All good here! Hopefully we will be on a steady schedule.
Hey! You’re back. Shame on me for unsubscribing. All is right in the world again
Sorry...life and work got in the way for a while.
Good to see you boys again! Glad you’re back. Happy editing 😊
Thank you!! 😁
Big thumbs up
Thanks!
Good to see this! T&L is good stuff! Big fans here guys.
Thanks Mooseman!
Yessss, my favorite show is back. Hope you're all doing well.
Doing good here...hope you are having an amazing fall!
Wow, glad that you guys are back!
Thanks! Hopefully we get on a regular schedule!
Very well done gentleman.
Fun video.
Great storytelling and amazing footage, I just thing you need somebody doing better color correction, being shot with RED, the color should look better IMO. Cheers
Thanks for watching and yeah we agree. We’re not colorists and the footage would look considerably better with someone that knows what they’re doing.
That was good information! I have always wondered when the rut actually starts! Thank you! Very helpful, very well done!
Salut Rick ! Jaseux
🥃
Very informative for young photographers. Why not Sony camera and G master 200mm to 600mm lens?.Your technical suggestions will help us .Thanks and all the best.Yash.
I’ve used the Sony 200-600 with Sony body and find the Sigma 60-600 is not only better due to a smaller size and better focal range but for video the manual focus on the Sigma is 1000x better. Sony is extremely touchy where the sigma adjusts shifting focus based on how fast you turn the ring and allows very nice fine focus manually. Only limit is sigma isn’t compatible with a teleconverter.
Just a Viewer and subscriber, the content is becoming boring and nothing interesting. 1 hour of talking, its a Wdlife filming channel but lack of the main content. Again you can ignore or thik about this
appreciate the comment. we are working on it.
Looking for a camera bag as I’m going to Namibia in February…. In regards to the dividers, maybe swap them out from another bag?
Yeah, the dividers from the Atlas backpack work nicely. That being said, I've just been using the Atlas Backpack. The grey dividers with the brown inside of the Polar Pro drives me nuts 🤣
Great vid , do you ever use earphones ? to monitor your audio when filming wildlife ,cheers
Yes...definitely wear headphones when recording audio. It helps verify what you are recording. Thanks for watching!
Maybe it's albino Raven! 🤔
Good thought but albinism is a complete lack of pigment and the slight black coloring and blue eyes would eliminate this possibility. This is a result of leucism (a partial loss of pigment).
@@TruthLegend True, something caused that mutations or it can be (Al generated images). Not real footage.
@11:00 Good grief. I live in Anchorage and 🤬 🫎.
Year 3 is yhe worst. That's the year that all the males turn into Frank Zappa and the mothers of invention cover bands and , well its just a pain. Its all day all night, we're not a jazz band we're rock music. And we coined the phrase "Freak-out". Or just get on the bus, uts a way of life. Great googleymoogley. Mother Mary and Joseph. Really its just day's and days of crap music that 90% of the fans are gonna hate, real improvisational, orchestrated flatulence amd queeeffz. If your lucky they play a little barely tolerable Captain Beef heart stuff. Pretty bsire they donit just to mess with ya, but mixed in with those days of the terriblist stuff you've ever known will be a catchy, good song with regular time and what would be an incredible guitar solo but it all falls apart. Because you know, cuz there still just a bunch of big birds. Usually blowd over in 2 or 3 weeks or so. Could be worse. The females go all granola, living for coffee and spoken word. And talking about how Dylans a sell out hack poet. whatever you do dont open or hold a door for them or tell them they're pretty. Fuuuff, sheeesh.
I started getting stuff from Smallrig to build my setup. 😊 Thanks, as always, for helping me spend my lunch money on stuff I didn’t know I needed. 😂
Very beautiful ❤
It’s definitely a struggle filming myself in a kayak. Especially when the water isn’t so calm.
I have the red V raptor. Two questions. What rails system are you using and what focus gear are you using on that lens specifically?
Michael uses the 19mm Bright Tangerine “Drumstix” titanium rails. The focus wheel is a discontinued Edelkrone Focus ONE but we’ve actually taken that piece off to save weight and find the Sigma lens is pretty easy to focus without.
Super Video, very interesting. Keep well and stay safe 👍🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
Белый ангел!) Влюблена))
Great podcast, loads of great insights. Talk about living the dream. Love his RUclips channel. We are almost neighbors, I’m across the Columbia river in Vancouver.
Yeah, Gerrit is a wealth of knowledge!
This is just a fun hobby for me that keeps me outdoors as I age learning about wildlife. When I got my first camera the store recommended I seek out Doug's videos on RUclips. I've watched them so many times and always learn something new. I can't thank him enough for the resource those video's provide. I'm in NC not too far from you Doug and saw a pronothotary warbler this weekend. Only the 2nd time I have. Couldn't agree more that they are one of the prettiest birds and so friendly!
It's a great hobby to have and Doug is a great teacher. He's back adding video on his channel so make sure you check them out.
This was a great episode and guest. I have long seen Gerrit's work, initially through the Cornell Lab productions and really appreciate his approach and dedication. The sound piece is a whole other level. You have put together a great podcast, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
what is Panzerfaust? when an animal comes in front of the camera, it instinctively raises its hands up in a gesture of surrender
and here I thought a Panzerfaust was an anti-tank explosive
I tried to film some whitetail. I couldn't do it. They were moving too fast and I don't know what I am doing. I got film of deer legs.Lol😂😂😂
At least you are getting out there. Every failure teaches you something new!
The film is hilarious
Pro 👌🏼
Thanks for watching!
Love it
My auntie and uncle! Love them and this interview!!
Bird guru right there! Good stuff guys!
Great job
Thanks!
