I'm glad I found you guys. I miss W&E. I'm a run and gun wildlife hybrid reels and stills shooter. Shoot mostly Nikon Z8. I'd be interested in your suggestions for video settings for my type of shooting. I generally keep my video set to 4K 60fps 1/125 H265. That way I can switch to vid fast and get something I can slow down if needed and if handheld get better stabiliation with the higher shutter speed. Of course I adjust my settings if the the wildlife allows me the time. BTW, I listen to Podcast on iHeart.
Thanks for tuning in Rob! We'll cover this question more thoroughly in Episode 6 of the podcast. You're using great settings there. The only comment we have is with regards to the H.265. It's a heavy codec for computers, but if you have a computer that is handling it, then no worries. We like to use the highest qualities as well to "future proof" the footage as best we can. If you're just wanting to snap a clip for IG reels then you could get away with H.264 if you're needing the hard drive space. BUT we'd argue that space is cheap and it's better to have the higher quality (H.265) for the future. Who knows, maybe you'll need/want the footage in a few years. Great comment and thanks for chiming in. (We'll check into iHeart).
Being just a dingaling weekend warrior photographer I’m kinda lost with all those color correction words you were throwing out there,😂,but I think just listening to the conversation made me a better photographer because now you got my brain firing into a new area. For video I just shoot with my GoPro and D500. I edit the GoPro stuff on their app, and the Nikon footage I barely edit at all. Also, I listen to these episodes in my truck and it works fine. Happy Holidays guys!
As always thanks for watching. Send us some ideas of what you would like us to cover. We have a new idea…would you be interested in watching/listening to an episode where we talk about a particular image….The Story Behind The Image. We will start it out with a few images I have and if successful we will bring in outside guests with their images.
@@TruthLegend I’d love to get some insight into how you go from getting an assignment, like for example “we need some wolverine footage” , to actually getting yourself in front of a Wolverine (or whatever animal). The entire thought process, and the road to getting the footage or image. Camo, scents, calls, hides, apps……
Colorado just released it's first wolves. You guys are thoughtful and educated outdoorsmen. I'd be curious to hear any thoughts or insights you have on their reintroduction in the State in one of your future episodes.
Merry Christmas 3 Jabronis🎅🎄🌟. Eric,Michael, and Brandon thank you,I got Grumpy and Flat top framed up🎉. Any suggestions on how to hang a picture less the holes? JO JO IN VT 💞☃️
Hi guys great podcast. I’ve been watching on RUclips so far. Appreciate the color correction topic and also the drone ethics (or lack thereof) discussion. Also liking the relaxed, informal approach you are taking. Very enjoyable to watch and I think not taking yourselves too seriously is refreshing for this space. Keep up the good work here.
Definitely interesting usefull information. I've been doing basic color correction (color curves, sharpening, white balance, occasional noise reduction) on my videos with the idea I'd have to eventually learn to use color grading. This video has helped me to decide that color grading is not necessary for wildlife video. Always learning though. BTW most of my Bighorn footage is standing beside 70 mile an hour freeway traffic Don't tell anyone.
Great content as always, the color correction was a little overwhelming but I’m just getting started with video. For now I’m going the hybrid mode route, I shoot a z9, any info on shorts would help and also stills. I’m just getting my feet wet here, is it hard to stitching iPhone , GoPro and mirrorless together? The bear boat trip is like a 5 star hotel, great food, nice sleeping quarters, shuttle service, great crew, great leaders, great people and as Dave mentioned when it’s raining sideways there is a warm place to sit, have a cup of coffee and good conversation. I usually watch the RUclips podcast on my iPhone, iPad, or T. V.
IHeart radio podcast like you had on Wild and Exposed was good for me since I would dow load the episodes and listen to them while searching for wildlife in Yellowstone where even the radio signal was bad. But I do like watching it on RUclips as well.
We’ll look look into getting it onto iHeart radio. Spotify should have the video as well and I believe you can download them, then you’d have both audio and video depending on where you’re listening. Thanks for tuning in!
Glad you guys spoke about the ethics of drones, I've been seeing some truly amazing drone footage lately, especially FPV stuff, but you can see how stressed the animals are, even though the footage they get is cool and different just not worth it in my opinion. Anyway, I mostly use Spotify for podcasts while at work or driving, and RUclips at home.
Thanks for the listening insights! Yeah drones are great in certain applications and there are some fantastic pilots. We just want the animal to come first.
Michael -to me, it’s totally worth talking about this stuff (color grading, editing, etc.)! It’s the secret ingredients to the special sauce! Diggin it for sure. I admit it about the e-bike -it is cheating a bit but that being said, I can be fishing in about 20 minutes :) It was a pleasure meeting you guys and hanging with you up there. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything too cool on @ben_was_here yet but you guys inspire me so I’m working on some stuff. Totally wish I could join you guys on the bear trip -one of these years I’ll make it! Btw, i watched to the end -all in one night -on RUclips, on my iPad. While playing solitaire! Good outro. I’ll leave now.
Hey Ben…hopefully you know we were just giving you a hard time about your bike! We will be looking for some cools stuff on @ben_was_here soon. I’ll hit you up if we go out filming anytime soon. Thanks for watching…you are the best!
Good job guys. I listen on RUclips while working on the pc or driving.
Thanks for watching!
Listening to you guys discuss this is very helpful to me. Even if it’s not something I do every day I always learn something when I’m watching
Much Appreciated! Thanks for Watching!
Merry Christmas guys, great to be watching podcasts again. Let's build it!
Merry Christmas mooseman team!

I listen to the RUclips podcast at the gym... and Mike's hat is the best style.
Thanks for listening and I agree about the hats!

Merry Christmas! I think there are some double sided tape hangers but it depends on the weight of the frame. Thanks for watching!
