1552 TB in Mike’s studio. Wild guess. I feel your pain Michael! We’re not even close but man it accumulates so fast. Loved all of your fave clips.- each of you had something unique and creatively captured. Nice cast as usual. We’ve started taking as many 8TB SSDs from OWC (about $1000) as we can afford as a backup for all our footage on a trip. Along with a bunch of 4TB SSD’s (SanDisk, Samsung, Crucial) for first download.

The SSDs are game changers! The NAS has also been a good addition to the office and it is fast enough to edit from if you are connected via a 10Gb connection! As always thanks for watching and commenting…much appreciated! Can’t wait to film bears with you both!

Great podcast, maybe the best so far. Can’t wait for the GoPro podcast, have a GoPro 11. Interested in the software to make it like a trail camera. My z9 has auto capture ability I’m tinkering with, my wife not too excited for me to use it as a expensive camera trap. I’m guessing Michael has 1405 tb. I agree with Michael about the wolf re-introduction. If you need another hot topic to discuss, for us in Washington state is the re-introduction of Grizzly bears to the North Cascades. Some aren’t very happy with the idea.

Thanks for the discussion. I just picked up Of Wolves and Men by Barry Lopez (great book), The Ninemile Wolves by Rick Bass (haven't completed yet), and The Arctic Wolf by L. David Mech (haven't started yet), and have been getting myself educated. I've also been watching some of the discussion forums on RUclips that CPW had with wildlife managers from other States after the measure passed (they have some really good content on the subject there). Keep up the great work!

Interesting, I'll have a look at the books. Was the discussion on the CPW RUclips?

@@TruthLegend ...it was. They did a three part series called "Grey Wolf Reintroduction Education Sessions" that I thought was pretty informative.

I believe Micheal has 1369TB worth of storage. I'd give you my shirt size but it won't matter. I've never won anything in 61yrs and it's probably too late to start, LOL.

1:23:00 - you completely dodged Jim Williams question. Why is there a double standard when it comes to cougars and wolves? You never even really gave your thoughts on it. Because people won’t see a cougar? That can’t be right, you’re likely never to see one a wolf either. Can you please answer the question? I’m also very curious…

Sorry for the confusion. The quote I was reading at 1:23:00 was from the book, Path of the Puma by Jim Williams. Jim Williams is a wildlife biologist that worked at Montana Fish and Wildlife at the time. Douglas Chadwick wrote the foreword where I read the quote from William. William's quote ends, "...Why? Mainly because the big cats are so good at not being seen."
Now later in the book comparing wolves and cougars, they state that cougars seldom travel in packs (outside of Patagonia), they don't conduct nightly choruses, they prefer to keep to thick vegetation and broken terrain, often climbs trees for seclusion, and will carry kills away from conspicuous areas. Most of these traits are often observed at night, making the cat more secretive. All of this points to less time being seen and cared about from the general public.
From my perspective, I agree with Jim (and you) in that cougars and wolves will likely never be seen by most of society. The difference instead comes from a political standpoint and bias. By the mid 40's, wolves were hunted to near extinction in the American West. The reintroduction programs across the American West have been closely watched and most everyone is aware of them. Cougars on the other hand, haven't been in the spotlight as much, although, there have been some interesting reintroductions on the east coast (like Florida) recently. It's also interesting that collared cougars have been observed moving east, but we aren't seeing as much negativity, which leads me into my last point.
There is a negative bias from wolves. Wolves are often portrayed as the antagonist to our stories. Little Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf, the three piggies and the big bad wolf, The Grey, Bad Guys, etc. Now there are movies where wolves are part of the protagonists story, Dances with Wolves, White Fang, Alpha, etc., but compare that to how many movies you can name about a cougar...
Unfortunately, I don't have a better answer at time, but I'll say I'm excited that people are asking the questions. Thanks for the question and I welcome further discussions! Also, I've seen more mountain lions than wolves. Of the times I've seen them, only one was slightly off-putting. Mainly because the cat just watched my friend and I as we hiked out. We ended up losing our cool and booking it to the house, but at 14 years old we didn't know better.
      Thanks again!
