How did a 19 years old Rachmaninoff compose this?
This is just a filler post, I don't have the proper piano to record this piece and I still need to polish the central section.
The piece is Rachmaninoff's Elegy Op.3 No.1

My composition contest "Estampas de España" (Final results and winners)
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.21 день назад
So far this has been the biggest musical project I have ever done. It took me many days of work, organization, promoting the proposal, talking to people, etc. I started planning it around late September of 2023 and now I'm giving the results in July of 2024. It has been a headache, but totally worth it, because I will always remember it. This is only the beginning, as I will organize bigger pro...
What title would you give this piece?
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.28 дней назад
I have my doubts regarding what name to give this composition and I am curious about what this could make people feel and imagine. Personally I was thinking about giving it a somber title in Spanish, something similar to what I did in "Entre la neblina". Because I will probably create a small set of pieces about death and I will iclude both of said works. I also want to give this piece a little...
My last composition before I turn 24... | "Introduction"

Hello everyone. You might know that I have a tradition where I compose one last piece right before my birthday, as some way of summarizing my total output while being a specific age (even if it might not be the best piece from that period). This year is no exception, and in the past week I have been composing a prelude for the occasion (somehow adding up to around 9 hours of work). Funnily enou...
"The farewell" (A piece I almost forgot about)
Просмотров 3022 месяца назад
If my memory serves me well, I composed this little piece in one sitting on the 19th of September of 2022. It took me around 3 hours of intense work. The context behind this work is that a friend of mine had lost her life long dog a couple of days prior and I wanted to console her. I decided to gift her a piece that could help her cope with the recent loss. Although I must admit that this came ...
Having fun with Berg's piano sonata

I just wanted to share this practice session of a piece I love. I started this piano sonata a few months ago and dropped it after around 6-7 hours of practice. Today I am retaking the piece and hopefully learning the whole thing before June Wish me luck!

Trying to improvise some Jazz

I know I still suck at this but I believe I'm making some progress day by day. It would be nice if I had more time to practice jazz and improvisation. The melody and harmony is from "Tea for Two".

I was depressed, so I wrote a chorale (The Death of me)
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.4 месяца назад
Indeed, I'm not too happy with my life lately. Everything is so stressful and discouraging. Luckily I managed to compose this in around 90 minutes and vent some of that frustration. The melody and lyrics are my creation too. I also thought I might as well compose a little piece for those in need of some comfort. Who knows, maybe this short song will bring them some peace and let them know that ...

I startet this piece in December of 2023 but had to drop it. I wanted to dedicate it to my friend Amy and it was also meant to be part of my composition homework (I dropped the composition degree and decided to be self-taught). I'm not sure how I want to continue this work, but I don't want to leave it unfinished because I spent a good amout of hours on it already and it sounds quite nice anywa...
A piece I will never finish
Просмотров 3496 месяцев назад
I wanted to include this in a set of piano pieces. This one in particular was meant to depict some emotions I had towards a specific person, someone who affected me deeply. But after some consideration I decided to discard the idea, because doing so would only extend the time I stayed anchored to the past. I'm sharing it just so it isn't completely lost. I don't remember when I did it or how lo...
Semi improvised prelude

I just wanted to express my happiness for being able to play piano again, not much else to say. it took me like 20 minutes and I did't write it down. I hope you enjoy. :) (I realized I pretty much unconsciously copied Chopin's Op.22. Well, that's unfortunate... It's weird because I never played that piece and I barely heard it a few times.)
Chopin's most underrated masterpiece (Sublime passage)

Hello, sorry for the awful sound quality. I don't know if the pedal of my piano broke or if I forgot how to use it. I haven't played the piano for around a month already and it shows, I had a sprain in my right index finger. I have been really obsessed with this piece lately, Chopin's Op.61. I find it an extraordinary composition, one of Chopin's most incredible contributions to music. I person...

Happy New Year! (You get a cookie if you find the reference I do at the end) I composed this as a way to vent all my frustrations from 2023. This might be one of my most harmonically rich compositions. It almost scares me, I don't know what I had in mind while composing it. It took me around 3-4 hours, but I didn't have enought time to write it down (I will post a PDF tomorrow). I hope you find...

    So the first piece stole many phrases from the Rach 3 cadenza as well as an etude tableaux. How was this not noticed?

    • @VepiumOfficial
      @VepiumOfficial 18 дней назад

      It's not stealing, it's a quote.

    • @Ivan_1791
      @Ivan_1791 16 дней назад

      We didn't consider it was similar enough to be considered stealing. He probably took inspiration from the Rach 3 cadenza and then developed in a whole different way, the style is very Rachmaninoff after all. Not giving this piece the 1st prize would have been a crime, because even after giving it a penalty because of his excessive difficulty it still stayed on top.

      Yes, some of the compositons we received were a true surprise! I'm glad of the variety of styles and musical personalities we gathered. Indeed, the first one has a very Russian style from the early 20th century. It reminds me of a Rachmaninoff with textures and harmonic shifts more common in Ornstein and other postromantics.

    Hola Ivan. En general, me parece una composición muy emotiva y bien elaborada. Tu dedicación a tu amigo Julián es evidente en la música, y creo que esta pieza es un hermoso homenaje a su memoria. con respecto al titulo sugeriría: "Réquiem para Julián": Un título directo y emotivo que hace referencia al homenaje a tu amigo y a la temática de la muerte. o pudiera ser: "Transición": Que sugiere un viaje o paso de una etapa a otra, representando el tránsito hacia la muerte. Muchas gracias por compartir esta bella obra. Saludos

    “The Fata Morgana Bell”. It evokes imagery of a bell tower standing alone in a desert, ringing for only starving travellers. They travel towards the sound to find it was merely an illusion; the turning of the gears and the ringing bell were the sonorous call of vultures, and the tower was merely a mirage. Beautiful piece. Kudos.
