This is just a filler post, I don't have the proper piano to record this piece and I still need to polish the central section.

I just wanted to express my happiness for being able to play piano again, not much else to say. it took me like 20 minutes and I did't write it down. Very beautiful work, Ivan! Your sense of harmony is on point. Love the picardy resolution that comes unexpectedly at the end, it give a hopeful feeling, after a quite sorrow piece.
Thank you very much! I will try to compose more chorales in the future, more polished ones now that I have more experience.

I agree, the first two are particularly special in my opinion. An explosion of musicality.
So the first piece stole many phrases from the Rach 3 cadenza as well as an etude tableaux. How was this not noticed?
It's not stealing, it's a quote.
We didn't consider it was similar enough to be considered stealing. He probably took inspiration from the Rach 3 cadenza and then developed in a whole different way, the style is very Rachmaninoff after all. Not giving this piece the 1st prize would have been a crime, because even after giving it a penalty because of his excessive difficulty it still stayed on top.
So grateful to be part of this collection! Congratulations to the winners!

Congratulations to all the composers and their respective performances! Was very pleasantly surprised by each one. First one reminded me a bit of Leo Ornstein's music.
Yes, some of the compositons we received were a true surprise! I'm glad of the variety of styles and musical personalities we gathered. Indeed, the first one has a very Russian style from the early 20th century. It reminds me of a Rachmaninoff with textures and harmonic shifts more common in Ornstein and other postromantics.
I am very honored to be in this list next to all these talented people. I can't be more thankful for getting the the first prize. It means a lot to me, that my music speaks to someone. Huge shout out to Ivan&co for organizing this contest. You did great! It truly warms my heart, that in this world there are still people who write beautiful music.❤

Congrats for your beautiful composition! Very few people compose like that nowadays. Indeed, we managed to have a bit of everything, from Renaissance to Romanticism to a more modern style. I edited the description and you should be able to check some of the pieces in their totality.

Thanks. Not really, it has been a coincidence, two measures are similar to the Chopin piece but I took inspiration from other pieces and not that nocturne.

Tu dedicación a tu amigo Julián es evidente en la música, y creo que esta pieza es un hermoso homenaje a su memoria. con respecto al titulo sugeriría: "Réquiem para Julián": Un título directo y emotivo que hace referencia al homenaje a tu amigo y a la temática de la muerte. o pudiera ser: "Transición": Que sugiere un viaje o paso de una etapa a otra, representando el tránsito hacia la muerte. I believe you can play it, only 3 measures are challenging and they can be learnt with muscle memory.
Habanera Funeral
"Las ventanas del Muerte". It's a somber habanera-style lyrical piece from what I can gather, so it mostly works with good somber names, and a bit of mistery.

“The Fata Morgana Bell”. It evokes imagery of a bell tower standing alone in a desert, ringing for only starving travellers. They travel towards the sound to find it was merely an illusion; the turning of the gears and the ringing bell were the sonorous call of vultures, and the tower was merely a mirage. Beautiful piece. Kudos.

It's a matter of practice, I have spent a lot of time making harmony exercises and creating small forms. I bet you will manage to get enough skill to enjoy the process in the future!
